I usually bring an appetizer to our THREE thanksgiving dinners...caramel apple dip
1/2c brown sugar 1/4c white sugar 1 bar cream cheese (softened) 1tbsp vanilla extract 1 bag Heath toffee bits (milk chocolate)
2 bags of pre sliced apples (I like using 1 green 1 red) or you can slice your own apples, but lazy.
Blend everything together with a mixer except the toffee bits, fold those in by hand. Fair warning, this shit is amazing. And easy to justify because there's fruit involved:)
My secret family recipe is green bean casserole. Our secret is to follow the directions from French's but don't put in the milk. Then it's thick and delicious.

We're hosting again this year for our group of friends that are also too far away from home to celebrate the holiday with family. I've got a new turkey recipe that I am excited to try- it involves putting an entire Apple and an entire peeled onion in the cavity. I'll make garlic mashed red potatoes (I leave the skins on), glazed carrots, cranberry walnut Brussels sprouts, green bean casserole, homemade yeast rolls, and homemade orange-cranberry sauce. I'll probably make chex mix, saltine toffee and strawberry pretzel salad to have on hand. I'll let the other guests bring pies and whatnot
We host every year and last year sucked since I was sick. Gimme all the food!
I make pumpkin pies (with soy milk - my family has no idea), green bean casserole, and macaroni and cheese. My sister makes stuffing and brings a turkey. My mom does corn and dinner rolls and brings her own dessert to try to upstage my pies. Psh, no one wants banana cake on thanksgiving!
Wow... I've never heard of having mac and cheese at Thanksgiving! Maybe it's regional? One special thing we always want my mom to make is pumpkin rolls. I may try making some for DH's side of the family this year. On a related fall-food note, DH's grandma gave me tons of pumpkin seeds yesterday. I decided to make a few different flavors, and now I'm wondering why I never tried that before. They're amazing!

1 package instant pistachio pudding powder, 1 tub cool whip, 1 can crushed pineapple (drained), mini marshmallows, maraschino cherries and chopped pistachios. Mix it all together until pudding powder has dissolved. It is so sugary sweet!

Ohhhh you mean Watergate Salad? We have that too. Or some other variations of super sweet fruit "salad" with marshmallows.
Ha. I usually call it "that green crap". My mom calls it "green gunk". My husband LOVES it.
My mom does Frog Eye Salad. I love it! Acini di Pepe noodles, cool whip, pistachio pudding mix, and crushed pineapple. Yum. As a kid it was definitely the name and green color that carried the appeal, now it is the pistachio.
My go-to Christmas dessert is pistachio pudding dessert. Festive (again with the green color! Haha!), so easy and tasty.

I need to come up with our menu soon. We're hosting DHs family for the 1st time ever since I've known him. BIL is a vegetarian. I know MIL and BIL will help with the cooking as needed.

I'm a former vegetarian and maybe I was easy, but I just ate the side dishes. Maybe you could make Mac and cheese I'll share my recipe if you need it.

We're going to H's family thanksgiving at BIL/SIL's house on turkey day. It's kind of a pot luck since this is their first time ever hosting anything, let alone thanksgiving. So I offered (aka was told by my H) to bring my sausage stuffing/dressing. It's really yummy, and was my grandmother's recipe. It's easy and makes enough for an army anyway. So I'm ok with it.
Then we're having my families thanksgiving the Sunday after at my mom's. So far we haven't figured out what we're bringing/making yet. I'm sure I'll be in charge of dessert or something.
