I got up at 5:30AM on a Sunday, I have no reason not to get to sleep in -- except for my current crummy sagging mattress that is slowly killing me! My back is so sore because of my old mattress and I don't think I can handle another night on it!
I'm looking at buying a new firm Serta iSeries. I used to be a stomach and side sleeper so the firm really appealed to me, but now I'm transitioning away from sleeping on my stomach because I know I won't be able to in a couple months.
So, talk to me about your mattress. Any one have a mattress they love they can recommend? Any you hate or want to avoid? Any thoughts on firm mattresses vs plush?

I think firm v. plush is totally personal preference. I'm more on the firm side.
I would buy my tempurpedic mattress again a thousand times. We went through two other mattresses (in less than four years!) before biting the bullet. It's worth it.
Also the company gave us a teddy bear stuffed with the tempurpedic foam with the mattress, and this is now DD's most adored stuffed animal. He helps me get her to agree to all sorts of things (yes, going upstairs is a great idea! Let's totally change my diaper, Teddy says so! etc.). I love that bear.
I can't remember the kind ours is, but when I was pregnant with DS we got a king sized bed and a new mattress from sleep experts. So worth it, now is the time. Like you said, sleep well get uncomfortable as it is in a few months.
I'm a stomach sleeper. Not being able to sleep on my stomach later on is so hard! I remember my first night in the hospital being so happy I could sleep on my stomach!!!

We have a sleep number and love it. We got it when DS was born and it's amazing. 4 years later we still love it. It's adjustable so if you feel like firmer or softer is better that night you can easily change it. It was also super easy to move!! Only downside is price.

I second the recommendation for a Tempurpedic. Before H and I were together he had the Tempurpedic and I had a nice quality, not cheap, medium-firmness Serta mattress. I can't remember what kind of Serta it is but it was definitely one of their top-of-the line models. When we moved in together it was no contest which one we'd use for our common bed - the Tempurpedic is superior in every way. I'm a light sleeper and he wakes me up when he turns over on a regular mattress but that isn't a problem. It's also really supportive and molds to your body - great for sleeping in any position. I wouldn't have dreamed of spending that much on a mattress before I lived with this one, but now that I know the difference I'd totally splurge.

Because Tempurpedic mattresses are made of memory foam (not inner springs like traditional mattresses) they don't sag and don't need to be rotated. I think the foam can get softer over time, but we've had ours for 7 years and it's still going strong. I think they come with a 20 year warranty. Some other (cheaper) memory foams are not as dense and don't last as long.
Oh gosh I feel like a Tempurpedic saleswoman. Hahah!
Ugh...decisions... This morning I was all "I'm not coming home without a new mattress." Now, after laying on all the models I'm over the pushy salesmen and don't want to spend so much money. King Koil and Diamond Mattress are two brands I'd never heard of but really liked the feel of.
For some reason I don't like any of the Tempuredic, so at least that's one less thing to worry about.
It annoys me that the salesmen act like they're giving you SUCH a deal and then I see the list price on the manufacturer site is less. I get it that brick and mortar stores need to make money but it still bugs.

Edited spelling
We JUST bought a Serta iSeries like 3 months ago.... It's OKAY. Not sure which on (i could tell you the price point). But, it's a step down from the firmest. MH is a big guy (6'5" - muscly - 260ish) so we need a decent mattress because wear it out because of his size quickly. For my pregnant self who is about half the size of MH - i like it. I'd recommend it. It's getting a little softer already, but I can tell you that if we don't start rotating it monthly - H's side is going to have a divet pretty darn soon anyway. He's complaining his lower back hurts lately, idk if it's from the mattress or not but he seems to think it is.
We did a TON of research before we bought - but it didn't matter when we got there anyway. The better mattresses are all going to be one-sided/non-unable to be flipped.
My thought is always buy the firmer mattress and if you need to, get a high-density foam topper.
We spent a whole mother lovin day of going to mattress stores, and we kept deciding on the same mattress regardless of where we went. Sleepy's has the same things as everyone else - just under a different name.
We have the Healthy Back Store equivalent of a tempurpedic. It is memory foam but not as expensive as an actual tempurpedic matress. I love it! I miss our bed so much when we travel!

We got a temperpedic, the firmest one they offer. We love it. We had a soft mattress when I had my first. Between sleeping there and nursing there, it killed my back to the point that there were a few days that I couldn't even pick her up. So excited to have a firm mattress now!

My BIl and SIL have this one and it's like sleeping on a rock! Like camping! Haha. DH and I are soft mattress people. It does remind me though that the sleep number has different settings for each side so if one like soft and the other likes hard it works for both!

We have a memory foam mattress from ikea and we've been happy with it. I'm sure it won't last as long as a tempurpedic, but we've had it for five years now and it's still going strong. And WAY cheaper!
