Fan on? White noise? We have a rain noise we play at night. On both sides of the bed. Plus we have the fan on.
Do you share your bed with your partner? Yes. I'm a super light sleeper, so if I can't get back to sleep then I'll go to the couch. Or DH volunteers to just sleep on the couch.
Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? Our dog. But not to sleep. She constantly snuggles into me and kicks in her sleep.
Attire? Socks on/off? Tank and shirts. No socks.
How many pillows? Blankets and sheets? I have two pillows. One to sleep on and one to squeeze/cuddle.
Other special circumstances or arrangements? Ear plugs and eye mask. Like I said, I'm a super light sleeper.
How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? At least 7.5.
What else? H wears a breathing machine at night. That machine is the only reason we are even able to sleep in the same ROOM.
Fan on? White noise? We have a electric heater in the winter, and a fan in the summer. (My pro. pic. is actually our house in 1920, it's cold Do you share your bed with your partner?Yes, and sometimes I love having him there, and other times it's nice to stretch out Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? We have two pups. One is like a bag of flour, and once he flops it's over. The other curls up on DH's pillow by his head. At 30 lbs it's hilarious to see. Attire? Socks on/off? Never, ever ever socks. I wake up at night and pull them off if I try. I sleep talk so it goes something like 'My feet are on fire!', scaring my DH How many pillows? Blankets and sheets? One pillow, as many blankets as possible Other special circumstances or arrangements?HAVE to have water by the bed. How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? Ranges from 8-12. We don't do much in the winter so we sleep in. What else? DH snores like crazy, and I sleep talk. I wake up and get mad at him, because I ask him a question and I get really mad when he doesn't understand me. I once yelled at him for not putting the elephant in the barn.
So, DH and I were having a lighthearted conversation last night about all the things I must have in place to ensure a good night of rest. After listing the many things, I felt like a super freak. DH, of course, needs nothing. I think he's got narcolepsy or something. He can seriously sleep anywhere! Maybe I'm just jealous. Perhaps when we have a child one day (hopefully), I will learn to sleep in any environment or circumstances due to pure exhaustion!
So, in an effort to help me feel more normal, tell me, what's your optimal sleep environment like? Fan on? White noise? No and no. Do you share your bed with your partner? Yes. He tosses and turns. I stay in one position in the corner of the bed all night. Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? Nope. H is allergic to cats and dogs. Attire? Socks on/off? Pajamas and socks off. I get too hot with socks on. How many pillows? Blankets and sheets? One pillow. Sheet and two blankets. I like to feel all cozy. Other special circumstances or arrangements? I'm not comfortable if H tries to snuggle up behind me. I ALWAYS sleep on my right side and don't move all night. I've always been like that. When I lived alone, my bed was super easy to make because of that. How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? 8, but I don't usually get 8. What else? I am the lightest sleeper in the world. I'll wake up over anything that seems out of the ordinary. When I lived in SoCal, I would wake up about a minute before nighttime earthquakes because I could sense something was out of the ordinary.

Fan on in summer. TV is usually on, but very low volume. I usually sleep in underwear and a sports bra. ABSOLUTELY no socks, for me or MH. I have what I call a vagina pillow, just a pillow I sleep with between my legs. I prefer 8 hours of sleep, but have learned to function off much less. My dog sleeps in my side of the bed everynight. Sometimes she's even the big spoon

Fan on? Usually only in the summertime White noise? Not unless we have the fan on, I like it as quiet as possible Do you share your bed with your partner?Yes Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? No Attire? Socks on/off? Off, for whatever reason, I can't sleep with them on, they are restricting to me but pjs don't bother me How many pillows? one, and only one Blankets and sheets? yes to both, always Other special circumstances or arrangements? I am most comfortable in the captain morgan position How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? nine usually What else? We have a sleep number bed, and I usually know right when I lay down if it has to be adjusted. I like a firmer mattress.

Dark room, quiet, in a night shirt/night gown. Winter I like socks, but they end up coming off. I use a sheet and blanket even in the summer. I need it to be dark and quiet, if my H is home, and has music, it has to be under his pillow from his phone and very down tempo and chill. He went through a Nick Cave at night period and thats a terrifying voice to hear at night lol. There was also a song that had screaming at the end. I about killed him one night.
I prefer a firm mattress. I have 2 pillows, and I don't like anyone else using them. Yeah. I don't let my H sleep on my pillows. He doesn't wash his face before bed and he drools.
If left to wake on my own, I usually sleep 9 hours. Yes, I love sleep. Yes I usually have 7. Its still a lot more than some people. lol

So, in an effort to help me feel more normal, tell me, what's your optimal sleep environment like? dark as fuck and quiet. Fan on? White noise? I have an air purifier, white noise and it helps keep asthma at bay. Do you share your bed with your partner? Yep. Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? don't have either Attire? Socks on/off? Hell no to socks. usually I wear panties and a cami, or a long sleeved tee in the winter. DH is a boxers and tee shirt kind of guy. How many pillows? Blankets and sheets? I like 2 pillows, DH likes 1. Sheets, coverlet, and down comforter on right now. Other special circumstances or arrangements? I usually fall asleep with an arm and a leg thrown over DH. He starts on his back, I lie on my side. How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? 7-8 hours. What else?
I have never valued sleep as much as I do now. Reasons below.
Fan on? Nope. I get cold easily. White noise? We used to when we lived in a high rise in Chicago but now that we live on a golf course in rural LA that is not necessary anymore. Thank God! Do you share your bed with your partner? Of course. Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? Yes, when DH leaves for work early in the morning. Attire? Socks on/off? Depends on how cold I am. I'd say 50/50 with the socks. I usually have a tank top and pajama pants, or a simple cami How many pillows? Blankets and sheets? Two pillows, a sheet, and a comforter. Other special circumstances or arrangements? Well, DD is a HORRIBLE sleeper. I get up every 2 hours to either get her a drink or soothe her back to sleep. How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? 10 + What else? I live for Saturdays when DH is home so I can sleep in. It is a glorious feeling, lol.
Does your H have Sleep Apnea? My H does, and it's slowly getting worse. What is the machine like? Just curious about if it's a pain or what.
---QBF?---
Yes he does. For the first year of our marriage we couldn't sleep in the same room. He finally did all the testing and it was honestly a relief to know that things were in the direction of getting better.
His first mask was a disaster and such a let down the first time he wore it. It was only the one that covered his nose. He's a mouth breather so it didn't work for him. It's a bit of trial and error in the beginning, but it's all worked out for him/us
I can't imagine it being comfortable in the beginning but DH can totally tell the difference between a nights sleep with and without it now. He's got more energy in the day now, now that he's resting well.
Thank you, that helps. DH is kind of worried about thinking to much about it, but he has heart issues and his snoring causes him to stop breathing, sometimes for 20-25 seconds and then gasp for air. Which is really bad for the heart. But, I'll share this with him and maybe he'll be more comfortable with getting tested and looking into masks, especially if it will make him feel better during the day.
ETA holly crap huge QBF. Thank you hydrangea1019 and I apologize for quoting the wrong person there!

Fan on? White noise? I sleep with earplugs because H snores. I like the fan for the air, not the sound. Do you share your bed with your partner? Sort of...I usually leave and go to another room after he starts making noise. My bed partner after that is Anchovy, my cat. Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? See above. I almost find it hard to sleep without Anchovy there. If he doesn't show up after I've been in bed for about five minutes, I find myself getting up to find him to let him know it's bedtime. He's a fantastic snuggler and the purring is soothing. Attire? Socks on/off? Just tank and pj pants. Just take if it's warm. No socks unless it's unreasonably cold. I have slept with socks on maybe twice in my life. We have better heat and insulation since that time How many pillows? Blankets and sheets? One to sleep, one to hold. Sheet and cover, if blankets, then it's two. Comforter plus light blanket if it's cold. Other special circumstances or arrangements? As above -- earplugs. How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? I feel best with 9-10 but that's not really possible when I'm working. What else? I cherish my sleep. H doesn't seem to understand this. If it were up to me I would just go to bed in the other bedroom and skip the master, but he likes the snuggle time but won't go to bed the same time as me. So I always lose about 30 minutes in the middle of the night. It's frustrating and makes me feel like bedtime is more of a battleground than my happy place. It's getting better, though, as time goes on. H used to try and guilt trip me about going to another room. I think he's figuring out I'm a happier person this way.

We always have some kind of white noise- a fan in the spring and summer and humidifier in the winter. We have sheet and a comforter too. We shut the door so it stays warmer in the winter and it keeps the cats out. They are quite distracting when we are trying to sleep. We actually have black out curtains to keep the light out when the sun rises. It was H's idea not mine but I love it. Socks and full clothing in the winter, but I'm fine nude or almost nude during the summer.

Fan on? only when its hot out and not high enough that you can hear it
White noise? Not usually but sometimes when my allergies are bad we will turn on the air filter in the room
Do you share your bed with your partner? Yes. Sleep pattern starts out with H on his back and me with my head on his chest then we move to him being the outside spoon then to me being the outside spoon and then finally we usually part ways. Its a weird pattern but it works.
Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? H and I strongly agree that we will NOT be engaging in cosleeping with whatever offspring we end up having. Animals are more than welcome and at least one of our cats sleeps with us at night.
Attire? PJs or naked after sexy time Socks are on in the begging but I usually take them off after about 10 minutes. Drives H nuts!
How many pillows? a body pillow across the bed and then a regular pillow on top
Blankets and sheets? Its cold out now so sheets, blanket and a heated mattress pad.
Other special circumstances or arrangements? My feet and legs MUST be under at least one blanket at all times or the monsters will eat me. Closet door must be closed also because the monsters will eat me. I also have about three night lights lighting the way to the bathroom. (I may or may not have a real fear of the dark)
How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? 6 - 8 but I do better with closer to 8
What else? I also sleep with my stuffed bunny Tyler. I've had him since I was 3 and he goes with me whenever I stay over somewhere.
So, in an effort to help me feel more normal, tell me, what's your optimal sleep environment like? Fan on? White noise? Do you share your bed with your partner? Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? Attire? Socks on/off? How many pillows? Blankets and sheets? Other special circumstances or arrangements? How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? What else?
__________ I have to have the fan on, but on low so it doesn't make sound. I need the room totally dark and silent. I share a bed with DH but I generally stay on my side and he on his. One dog sleeps with us, but he doesn't like to fuck around and requires his beauty sleep. He sleeps in the middle of the bottom. Soft t shirt and pajama pants, shorts in the winter. NO BRA EVER OMG NO. and NO SOCKS. I have a special pillow that I have had for 25+ years that I have to have to sleep. I have never slept a night without it. I require 4 other pillows to sleep.
I seriously prefer 8-10 hours of sleep a night. I can function with less, but I love my sleep.

My optimal sleep environment is dark, cool but not cold, with a fan for white noise. Do you share your bed with your partner? I do. Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? No kids but we share a king bed with our big bulldog (55lb) and our russel terrier (25lb) Attire? Socks on/off? Shorts and a t-shirt usually. Never socks or bra. How many pillows? Blankets and sheets? 2 pillows, 1 blanket Other special circumstances or arrangements? I cannot share a blanket. Fiance thinks I'm weird but I just need a whole blanket to myself so I can bunch it up in the right places How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? Usually 7-9. Any more and I'm lagging during the day
Post by diamondsndaisies on Jan 15, 2015 22:12:23 GMT -5
I need darkness, a blanket and a pillow. That's it. Edit to add: I like to have a fan if available but it's not necessary. The darkness thing is a must though. I grew up on a farm and my father didn't believe in yard lights and our bedrooms were in the basement so at night it was so dark you couldn't see your own hand in front of your face. When we moved to town when I was in hs it took a while to get used to having light at all. The quieter the better, also another side-effect of being on the farm.
I end up sleeping by myself most nights since DH is at work so when he is home its a little hard to stay asleep. I don't sleep well when DD sleeps with me so I usually try to avoid letting her sleep with me. She sleeps like a tornado anyways.
Fan on? Only if it's too hot in the room. White noise? Nope. Do you share your bed with your partner? Yes. Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? Sapling, yes. Every other night only because we're trying to break that habit. Dog sleeps in her crate. Attire? Socks on/off? My pjs vary greatly, but yes to socks. Always. How many pillows? Blankets and sheets? One pillow. Normally we use the flat sheet and a fleece blanket over it. Thick comforter if it's really cold. Other special circumstances or arrangements? Dark as dark can be. How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? I try to get 6, but rarely do. What else? It takes me a least an hour to actually fall asleep on a good night. I have a hard time shutting my brain off and relax.

Fan on? White noise? I use a white noise machine.
Do you share your bed with your partner? Yes
Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? Per our dog trainer's advice we longer let the dog on the bed. It has really helped to improve his behavior.
Attire? Socks on/off? No socks typically. I either sleep in underwear and a tank top or with nothing on.
How many pillows? Blankets and sheets? One pillow under my head and also use a body pillow. We use a sheet, blanket and down comforter in the winter and take off the down in the summer.
Other special circumstances or arrangements? I have sleep issues so we no longer have electronics allowed in the room (phones, tv's, kindles).
How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? 7-8 hours

Fan on? White noise? Absolutely fan on- and white noise or small travel fan when not at home.
Do you share your bed with your partner? Yeah most of the time- DH works midnights 3 nights a week and if he snores too badly he moves to the spare bed. I HAVE to fall asleep before him though because of his snoring and sleep apnea he still hasn't had treated. Supposedly getting his second sleep study this week...I'll believe it when I see it.
Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? Nope! Dogs aren't allowed on until I've started to wake up. Once I get wake up they can come back on but not before. They sleep with DH tho when I leave.
Attire? Socks on/off? Just underwear. I get too caught up in everything else.
How many pillows? Blankets and sheets? I still use my snoogle...I'm obsessed. I also have a really squishy pillow I put above my head by the headboard and lay my arm on it sometimes. I sleep closer to the foot of the bed then the head.
Other special circumstances or arrangements? I always have to start out on my stomach/rightish side but always end up on my left side. Can't alternate or I can't go to sleep.
How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? Ideally 9-10 but I only get 6 before work on my 3 days of work. Any less tho and I'm not a fun person.
What else? Unless we have a nice bed on vacation I usually end up in a temper tantrum the second night. It's been a problem only on trips with my mom in rental houses with shitty beds. Hotel beds have always been adequate.
Fan on? White noise? Nope. As quiet as possible. Do you share your bed with your partner? Yup. Do you share your bed with pet(s) or children? Nope. If I had my way, the dogs would be sharing the bed, but H says no way. He is worried they'll interfere with his sleep. Attire? Socks on/off? Off. I sleep in pj bottoms and t-shirts. How many pillows? Blankets and sheets? Two pillows. 2+ blankets depending on how cold it is. I pretty much need to cocoon myself in blankets regardless of how warm and cold. I need at least one big one that I can wrap around me. If it's cold (and I'm almost always cold) I need two or more. Right now I have 3. My husband sleeps with 3 pillows under his head/neck, and then hugs one. He only uses a sheet for a blanket. Other special circumstances or arrangements? I need to lay on my right side. When I semi-dislocated my shoulder my doctor told me I needed to leave my sling on and sleep on my back. It was torture. I also need to always sleep on the same side of my husband. When we moved from the apartment to the house he tried to switch my side on me. Nope. Sorry. How many hours of sleep are ideal for you? As many as possible. 8? What else? I am a total night owl and it's really hard for me to get to bed early. It is, however, very easy for me to sleep all day.

I can almost certainly help you feel more normal.
The room must be pitch black and cold.
DH prefers a fan plus a white noise app set a certain way. The fan has to be on the ground so that the air doesn't actually hit me, and the white noise app can't be set too loud.
The bed must have flannel sheets in the winter and the silky-ish sheets from IKEA in the summer. It must be covered with a fleece coverlet and a medium weight down comforter + duvet cover in the winter/light weight down comforter + duvet cover in the summer.
I need three pillows: one firm foam pillow with a medium-fill down pillow placed on top and rotated on an offset 45 degree angle. My arm is specifically situated between the two pillows and under my head. The third pillow (firm) goes beside me situated between both my boobs and my knees.
I hate wearing pajamas, but I have to wear them when we have foster kids, so I just got myself into the habit of wearing them all the time. Just a cotton sleeveless nightgown, though. No pants or socks.
My hair has to be in a very high, very loose messy bun, and my teeth have to be freshly brushed.
Finally, my phone and BBT have to be situated just so on my nightstand.
The OCD is real, yo.
(However, when I'm sick or beyond exhausted, I can sleep on the couch with just two pillows and a fleece blanket.)
((Andplusalso, now that I've typed this all out, I feel a little weird.))
Fan on? White noise? We have a electric heater in the winter, and a fan in the summer. I wake up and get mad at him, because I ask him a question and I get really mad when he doesn't understand me. I once yelled at him for not putting the elephant in the barn.
You are my kindred spirit. I say the strangest things in my sleep too. I've also smacked my husband in the head twice. I think the worst was the running start into our dresser.I thought something was chasing me (that's my best guess anyway)

I've never really been a mover, but I will legit wake up, shake DH awake, demand something, and then get next to furious that he doesn't understand what I'm talking about because I'm making perfect sense damnit! I legit slapped him once, but mostly it's just talking. Jumping/running out of bed sounds like a wonderful way to wake up though!

My husband does weird shit in his sleep. FFTC one time he was folding towels and I was going to let him keep doing it until I relized he was just folding and unfolding the same damn towel.

When we were getting ready for a move I folded two laundry baskets full of dirty laundry. My husband was so thrilled until we figured out it was all dirty.
