We have a boy name picked out, but are having a hard time with girl names.
Boy names we love but can't use: August nn Gus- Gus doesn't sound great with our last name Sebastian- we have a cat with this name Theodore- too Roosevelty with DD's name.
Girl names I have been liking lately: Beatrice Astrid Josephine Fiona Aoife (Guilty pleasure name)
I don't love extra ys in names. I'm also not a big fan of place names.
I think I was about 32 weeks before we decided on DD's name (Georgia), her middle name wasn't decided until after she was born. It's so hard to pick a name this little person will carry for the rest of her/his life.
I prefer old lady names for the most part I like classic names. I don't like anything wild/crazy/made-up/misspelled.
Girl names I like: Claire Vivian (H will absolutely not go for this, it kills me) Gwen Gemma (too similar to DD's name) Kate
Boy names: Samuel Theodore River (H loves it) Wyatt (Sounds ridiculous with our last name)
We are set on a boy's name: Jackson Wade Robert to honour DHs grandpa, my dad and maternal grandfather. For a girl we have Marie and Diane for middles to honour our mothers but can't decide on a first (DH likes Emily I really like Evelyn)

Who is thinking about them? We've had lists for about a year.
What style do you like? I like more sophisticated girls names that aren't super popular and boys names that are a bit unusual.
Care to share your lists? Top 5, 10? Twin girls: Seraphina Rae and Thalia Devona Twin boys: Caspian George and Killian Fredrick Boy/girl: Killian George and Seraphina Devona
Stories behind any of the names? Rae, Devona, and George are family names
Just for fun: Names/trends you can't stand? Awful names you've heard lately? I hate misspelled names for the sake of being "unique". Also adding a y to a name doesn't make a boy name a girl name. And no to the boys names on girls period.

daometjing I love Sebastian and Theodore. Gaelic names are a guilty pleasure of mine too. I can't submit my kid to having to pronounce their name forever though.

daometjing, I LOOOOOVE your girl names especially Astrid and Fiona!
DH and I came up with names before we were even engaged. Since we know this one is a boy and he has a brother on ice we won't be using our girl names
What style do you like? I really don't like traditional names like Michael, John, Ann probably because my name is Nicole and I went to school with a lot of Nicole's...so my kids will have slightly uncommonish names
Care to share your lists? Boy names at the top of our list: Declan (it's climbing in popularity which I don't like), Jasper, Oren, Bram, Desmond....I've been calling this one Declan on and off so it might stick...Dex for short. Girl names we won't be using: Juniper (Juno for short), Ada, Winter, Isla, Josephine (after my dad Joseph)
Stories behind any of the names? Middle name with be Joseph after my dad because it wouldn't have been possible to pay for IVF without him. I'm not a fan of Joseph so it's going in the middle LOL. If we were having a girl she would have been Ada after my grandmother, but no girls here!
Just for fun: Names/trends you can't stand? Awful names you've heard lately? Not a fan of the Aiden, Kayden, Jayden trend and I really don't dig traditional names....John, Susan, Jennifer, Michael...just too boring for me!

tootsie, I LOVE River! Not sure if River Joseph goes well and we live in the mountains with lots of rivers...so I'm not sure if the name is too much for our location LOL.

Who is thinking about them? DH and I have been talking about baby names for what seems like an eternity.
What style do you like? He prefers SUPER Italian (we have a last name that is very similar to Panzanella) I'd probably go more mainstream. I also love the old lady names trend. My grandma's name was Adeline and I love that name! DH vetoed it immediately.
Care to share your lists? Top 5, 10?
We only have two so far. Not sure if we'll even bother with alternates.
Gianna Lee Panzanella (not the real last name, just similar) Paul Gabriel Panzanella, Jr.
Stories behind any of the names?
DH was dead set on having a junior if it's a boy, which I'm OK with. We both like the name Gianna, so unless we hear of something we like more, that's probably what it will be!
Just for fun: Names/trends you can't stand? Awful names you've heard lately? Honestly, haven't heard any really bad ones. I just hate made up names.
Who is thinking about them? Somewhat... not too much though.
What style do you like? Unique but NOT MISSPELLED.
Care to share your lists? Top 5, 10? If we have a boy, his name will be Henry Charles and we will call him Hank. If we have a girl we need to go back to the drawing board because the few we had have been taken recently. We had a girl name picked out before I was KU with DD (Ada lee- it's all one word but put a space in because of the internet...) and couldn't decide on a boy name. Now that we had a boy name picked before I was KU I think it will be a boy! Ray , our daughter's middle name is Di ane also- that is both of our mother's first names!
Stories behind any of the names? Middle name of Charles for DH's father and grandfather, it's also one of his middle names.
Just for fun: Names/trends you can't stand? Awful names you've heard lately? I'm with housecarder in that I HATE when people misspell a name for no damn reason. Stahhhhhp!!
DH and I have been discussing our future baby names for a while, we'll be out to eat or watching a movie/tv show and if we hear a name we like say it out loud to the other. If we have a girl her middle name will be Irene, as that is both of our grandmother's names. For a boy I really want to use Warren as either a first or middle name. It's my grandpa's middle name and I've always loved it, but DH isn't sold on it just yet.
I seem to really like the more traditional/old fashioned names, especially for boys. A few of the names currently on our list:
tootsie, I LOVE River! Not sure if River Joseph goes well and we live in the mountains with lots of rivers...so I'm not sure if the name is too much for our location LOL.
It's such a good name, do it I wouldn't think twice about where you live!
One of our acquaintances just named their baby girl River and I'm just dying over it. I feel like I can't use it because it's too specific and we have too many friends in common, so everyone would think we were copying them. Oh naming, so dramatic.

Who is thinking about them? Me. But we wont name until we see him/her.
What style do you like? I am a big fan of the not-so-popular.....like Matilda, Adelaide, Hendrik, Otto, etc
Care to share your lists? Top 5, 10? Side note: This is just my list, as my husband won't know about the pregnancy until next Friday, and knowing him, he won't give me a list of his ideas until I am in my 3rd Tri, or as we are walking into the hospital.
Stories behind any of the names? Lucille - my honorary grandmother's name, although we would probably use Lu or Lulu for a nickname. Adelaide - Just a name my husband liked from 1st pregnancy that had grown on me. Probably because my parents bought a beach house, and in this little town, there is a quaint little coffee shop (run by a husband and wife), named Adelaide's. I make sure I go, every time I go out to the beach. Olive - I always thought it was horrible, but our DD was taking a class and there was a little girl named Olive, and MH said "Thats an awesome name!" It just kind of grew on me after that. I would probably only use for a middle name though, as it would drive me crazy to hear "is it short for Olivia?" all of the time. Clara - My dad's cousins name, that I have always liked (but she isn't around enough to make using it an issue) Fiona - I loved it with DD1, but husband can't get past Shrek Eloise - Another family name, although I feel like it is getting to popular an another way of getting the nickname "Ellie". I would be okay with someone calling her Eloise or Elle, but not Ellie. Isla - Another family name
Jac - honorary grandfathers name. Pronounced Jack. Might be a better MN. Hendrik - Great uncle's name, he is such a sweet man Pieter - My great-grandfather's name Finnegan - Just a name that I like Axel - Another name that I just like, but worry about kids teasing with the whole Axel/Asshole thing.
Just for fun: Names/trends you can't stand? Awful names you've heard lately? I used to be part of a large playgroup and worked at a large daycare/preschool, so a lot of names have been ruined for me, not only by bratty kids, but by hearing them over, and over, and over, and over again.
Care to share your lists? Top 5, 10? Side note: This is just my list, as my husband won't know about the pregnancy until next Friday, and knowing him, he won't give me a list of his ideas until I am in my 3rd Tri, or as we are walking into the hospital.
housecarder your names are badass. Are you going to find out the sexes?
Yes. We are actually planning on doing the maternity blood test around 10 weeks to test for genetic abnormalities because of my "diabetes" and the IVF. A bonus of that is that week could know the sex before Christmas!

Whoa he doesn't know yet? Is he out of town?
He's not! When I got pregnant the first time, I just flat out said "Im pregnant" when he walked in the door. This year, it just so happens that his birthday falls on Thanksgiving (its actually a milestone birthday!), and I got him tickets to a football game he has been wanting to go to (its on Black Friday)...and we are going to go see the game together, without DD. My cousin cheers for the rival team, and it was going to be the only game I could see her cheer at, so I got the tickets for the rival side instead of the team that he loves. He knows about the tickets, and gave me a hard time about getting them on the rival side, but understood. I ordered him an infant beanie for the team that he loves, and I am going to give it to him the day of the game with a note that says "Sorry that I got tickets for the wrong side of the field....I hope this makes up for it...."
The other deciding factor in me waiting to tell him, was because there has been a massive mix up with our health insurance that he is trying to deal with. If he knew right now, he would be more stressed, than exited about it. Once the health insurance mix up is all figured out, which it most likely will be before Thanksgiving, then he wont be as stressed and will be able to actually enjoy the news. I am only 4w2d, and just got a BFP on Saturday. We will see if I can continue to keep quiet. HAHA! The beanie may come in the mail and I may cave and tell him, just like I did with the tickets to the game.

I'm going to be a pain in the ass and quote everyone bc I'm mobile and tagging is hard.
I like Gus but my son is named jack and my sister pointed out to me that jack and gus Gus are the names of the nice from Cinderella. Also love Josephine, it's on my girl list.
harlowjune1984 I used to be a teacher so many good names have been ruined by certain students.
This exactly. I will never have a child named Jacob or Colin for this reason.
Same... ex teacher here as well... Dorian and Joseph will never be an option. Not that I would have picked them anyway... hahaha
My son has a name that I never had as a student and I love that. Finding another boy name I love as much is really going to be a challenge this time (if it's a boy)...

If this baby is a girl she will most likely be Emily.
