I love driving around looking at christmas lights!! Decorations for Hannukah just are not that entertaining

We do this every year, even before the kids were born. Its the one good tradition I had from my childhood that I make sure to keep going.

There is a whole street in my town that goes all out with Christmas lights.  its UBER gaudy but so much fun at the same time.   they are currently in their 69th year of doing it!!

Two nights ago i drove around with DS1 looking at Christmas lights and blasting Holiday music. I was tempted to get out the tree when we got home sorrynotsorry to the turkey.

I cant remember what color lights we have. I thing they are white though. And our tree is fake fake fakeity fake.

White lights are just classic to me. Like budders, I think they show off the ornaments well.

Tinsel that you put on a tree can burn in hell, though. I have my mom's old tree and she uses tinsel and I'm still pulling it off three years later.

Well, for one I'm allergic to pine. So having a real tree could spark an asthma attack. Also, fake trees have zero maintenance. I put it up, fluff it, and decorate.

I grew up with only real trees and was so pissed when my mom bought a fake tree once I left for college. I let my husband fluff and decorate our fake tree because I just can't make a fake tree look good. Not an opinion but I bet it's unpopular. Lol

Ditto, we've always done white lights on the tree - because it looks pretty with all the ornaments.... but I love colored lights on the house!

I really hate Pumpkin anything... Pumpkin Bread, Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin bars.... all of it.  Yuck.

+1 for highly allergic to trees. We get a real wreath for the front door as a compromise. If I get the sap on my skin I have welts for hours.
We cut then down when I was little until the doctor pointed out that my sister and I are allergic.
I miss having a real tree but don't miss the needles and not having to water.

DH insists on only colored lights bc he only had white lights growing up.

I can't wait for my house to look like Whoville!!!!!!!

Our landlord said we can't have a real tree because the water in the basin might spill and damage the old hardwood floor. The roof however, needed to be replaced ages ago (cedar shakes that occasionally blow off in windstorms), but hey, priorities .

Probably gonna get a real tree though, since the local tree farm is next door to the family farm.

I am on team all white lights, has to be a real tree, and hell to the no on tinsel.

Maybe this isn't an O,U, but a lot of people have them, so maybe it is: I HATE the stupid blow up lawn decorations. They make me slightly ragey. I think they are so tacky and I don't care how much B might want them some day, we aren't doing it.

Also, I like fruitcake.

Well this was tame and entertaining today

Team colored lights everywhere. But I'm too lazy to do lights outside.

Team real tree- short needles only though.

I'm definitely putting mine up thanksgiving weekend this year. It always goes by so fast!

I used to go see this every year when I was in college in Baltimore! Senior year I did a photo essay in the school paper of pictures of the different homes/lights. Some are super gaudy, I agree, but I love them! I especially like the Baltimore themed ones, like the natty both cans and stuff.

+1 for only real trees and also white lights because we also collect ornaments on our trips and love to show them off.

I do know lots of American Jews that put up trees, but I feel weird doing so b/c yo, Jewish. Pretty much agnostic tho.

I do love red and white lights mixed together.

We go every year, Nothing changes.  Dinner at Holy Frijoles and then walk to see the lights!!


holliberry28 I'm right there with you about no Christmas tree.  I personally find it sac religious to put up a Christmas tree just so that you can put up a tree.  While Hanukkah decorations are not nearly as pretty as Christmas ones, there is something so nice about just seeing a menorah (or in my MIL's house 10) light in the windowsill

I'm team fake tree. We went out and got a real tree once when I was maybe 12 or 13. I didn't see anything too amazing about the experience, and I thought our fake tree was so much prettier than the prickly mammoth that had to be watered, couldn't have the lights go all through like the fake one, and I'm pretty sure it had a few spiders in it too. Ick.

*SITB*  The only reason that we got her one this year is because all of our parents wanted to get her one.  my Inlaws are trying to do all of her Firsts for her. First time at the library, First time doing this, First Menorah and what not.  We have made it very clear that these things need to come from us as her parents.  So to stop it we bought her her first Menorah.  Back over the summer we had a gift card that was expiring at a Jewish Book Store.  We used it for her first Kiddush Cup and Candle Sticks.  We heard from my FIL and MIL that they wanted to buy her her first set.  Sorry but she is OUR child not yours.  First like this need to come from us, not the grandparents.
