We got a call last Friday and she came home yesterday! It's been crazy and amazing :-)
Paperwork to terminate parental rights hasn't been signed and we're not sure when that will happen. We're actually a bit frustrated with our agency becauer they arent providing much support on what we need to do. For example - we had to being her to the pediatrician bu she cant be addes onto our health insurance until we get a birth certificte. We don't even have her original birth certificate. Hopefully on Monday they'll provide a bit more support.
We have told coworkers (obviously since we need time off work) and I have told a few friends. One has a 1 month old so she's been helpful with baby tips since we didn't have much time to prepare. :-)
We're planning on telling family on Thanksgiving. I'll be calling my parents and we're going to just show up at thanksgiving with DH's family and surprise them.
We were able to add DD with our placement paperwork. You may want to call and see of that will work
GL!
Thanks for the tip - I hadn't thought of that since we were told we needed a birth certificate. I'll give our insurance a call and see if that is enough. Gracias!
Oh and we didn't get a birth certificate until finalization. The original birth certificate is typically sealed (at least in our cases it was). To be honest once TPR was signed the agencies were only involved for ICPC and post placement visits. If you have questions feel free to ask we have been through this twice

Congrats, how exciting! Agree with PPs about insurance; for our 2 adoptions we were able to add the boys with placement paperwork w/o any problems. For one we didn't have that until after TPR but before that time was covered by Medicaid.
Agree with PP that I just needed our placement papers for insurance purposes. We won't actually receive our new birth certificate until after finalization. Is there an HR person who can help you navigate insurance? I submitted everything to my HR person and she handled everything for me.
We also had a super quick placement. R was born on a Monday, got the call on a Tuesday and she came home on Wednesday. It's crazy but wonderful. Enjoy the ride!!!
My one mantra that helped me not freak out too much was to just focus on the next thing. Don't worry about any other step than the next one. Congrats again!

Holy cow, congrats. Can't even imagine things happening that quickly. I don't think I would be able to keep from family that long. But how amazing to be able to do over thanksgiving

We were able to put our son on our insurance just with the placement paperwork, you may double check!
Big congrats! I hope you are enjoying your little one and good for you for wanting to surprise your family in such a way. There would be no way we could have waiting to let our family know! lol.
I also have to say that we have had some issues with adding our LO onto my insurance, but not my husbands. This reminds me I also need to follow up. GL and keep us posted You may want to look at joining one of the birth month boards to connect with others who have little ones the same age. I was slow in doing that, but have recently found the board and appreciate it tremendously!

Thanks for the congrats and sugestions with insurance. My caseworker said she would get us a certificate of placement so I'll contact insurance again once we ge5 that.
I didn't even think of joining the month board! Great idea!
So far we've successfully not told any family. We are so excited to surprise DH's family. We are going to tie a balloon to her car seat (that says Congrats) and put a little sign that says "Surprise! You're grandparents!". We'll set her in front of their door (they are in a condo building) and knock and run around the corner. It's going to be pretty funny. :-)

It went great! We set her in her carseat with a sign, baloon (it's a girl!) and a bottle of champagne. We knocked and ran around the corner of the hall. DH's grandma answered the door first and was confused (she thought the baby was a doll) and she called my ILs over and then it was quiet for a moment before MIL started crying. Then we came out and there were hugs, tears, hugs and more tears. :-)

We're settling in okay. It's been kind of crazy but family/friends have been super helpful. Two friends dropped off a ton of baby things we can borrow (bouncy chairs, a pack and play, etc.) and one friend mailed us a huge box of newborn diapers her son just grew out of. I am blown away by all of the support and just general kindness our friends, family and even acquaintances have shown us. :-)
So happy that your reveal went so amazing! That is great that you have lots of support. I think people are genuinely kind to begin with, but we also felt a huge outpouring of love and support when we were preparing for M birth! I even had a woman who I bought some cloth diapers off of Kijiji give us a swing once she heard that we were adopting. I just went through all the clothes that people have handed down since M came home and we literally have clothes up to size 4T at this point! lol. Enjoy every moment:)
