Thanks so much to my soulmate, pippacricket for filling in for me yesterday! It's been a crazy busy weekend, for sure. Let's throw out some ideas for books to read in December - runner ups have included Ready Player One, A Year Of Wonders, and Silkworm.

Still saying Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult

I just finished Ready Player One and really liked it. Being a child of the 80's who grew up with 3 nerdy brothers and a lot of computer and video games made it easy to get into. I have to confess that I half read/half listened to this on audio book. Will Wheaton reads the adudiobook, if anyone is curious.

I've only participated in the book club for a few months, so I'm not sure if these have already been nominated/chosen, but these are two books that I've recently read and really enjoyed:
The Book Thief
The Invention of Wings

Oh also, here are three more books that I've had recommended to me. Anyone heard of or read them who can give a thumbs up/down for my next audiobook purchase?

Big Little Lies - Liane Moriarty
The Boys in the Boat - Daniel James Brown
Orphan Train: A Novel - Christina Baker Kline

I've heard great things about The Boys in the Boat, but I haven't read it. I'd be up for reading it.

Big Little Lies is fast-paced and easy to read. It's a fun read and a lot like Liane Moriarty's other books -- very easy to get into. It's humorous and deals well with several women's issues. I enjoyed it a lot.

Orphan Train may technically be a YA book, not sure, but it's easy to read and short. It's a great story and alternately heartbreaking and heartwarming. Really nicely done. Everyone I know who has read it likes it.

It's sooooo good. I loved it! And yeah, it definitely can trigger things; although, I'm fairly certain all Picoult's books do that. I originally bought the book for my MIL for her birthday and she loved it, too.

ellabee , I've recently read the Invention of Wings for book club at the library and I liked it a lot. Their January book is The Book Thief so I might be reading that soon. I'm not loving that book club and I don't have a ton of time to read non-school stuff, so we'll see.

I have to read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern for my women's group. I've heard good things about it, as a possible suggestion.

thelittleredm , I'd be interested in reading Leaving Time as well.

I've been dying to read Euphoria by Lily King for a while, but it keeps getting pushed back. Anyone interested in that one? Throwing it out there.

Ha, I haven't even started November's book.   I got the digital copy from my library and put it on my nook 2.5 weeks ago. And I haven't read any of it.


But I will probably have more time to read this next month. I'd love to read Ready Player One.

The Cleveland kidnapping book by Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus. I'm weird. As you know, I've read several kidnapping books.

I sure have. Along with Elizabeth Smart's book. I have a weird thing about kidnappings. I think reading them makes me feel more prepared if something were to happen, or something weird like that!

Agreed! I really enjoy them even though they make my heart hurt.
