We need to repeal the damn 2nd amendment. This doesn't mean responsible people can't still own a gun but if you are more worried about your "right" to do so than the safety and well being of those around you, you are an asshole and a huge part of the problem. Yes. You are right. Gun control alone is not the answer. Our mental health system is failing. We are too complacent about violence in general. And we have morphed into a an embarrassingly self serving society that doesn't give a shit about anything that helps others if it means we have to give even a tiny little bit of ourselves. It is a problem that isn't going to be corrected for many generations but the process can still start now. This country need a serious kick in its self righteous ass, but I'm not sure exactly what that is going to look like since the fact that there have been more mass shootings than days in 2015 doesn't seem to be enough.

So there you have it. Happy Thursday.

I've never had anyone question me about bottle feeding with either kid. I can't believe strangers would comment on this either way. +1 for the video and picture shaming being excessive. I do think some of those women are hurting their cause more than helping it.

I am just over all of the mommy wars.. Who cares how you feed your child as long as that child is getting fed. Women need to stop bashing (no one here but in general) each other over the fact that they choose to breastfeed instead of formula feed, or if they choose to formula feed over breastfeed. We all also (again no one here) need to stop telling parents that give their children purees instead of doing baby led weaning that we are hurting our children and need to rethink how we feed them. Feed your baby how every you want, and as how it works with your family. A fed baby is a happy baby and a happy baby makes for a happy family.

Yeah, I liked breastfeeding mama talk on Facebook, but every day it seems it's more aggressive than not.

I've never had anyone say anything to me while nursing in public, but I use a cover.

@jimbobcooter I'm so sorry for your loss and that you experienced that firsthand. Every time I see something on Facebook or TV about a shooting, my heart breaks. The Lafayette one was super close to home, and I was tore up about that worrying about all my friends that live there. I can't imagine what you dealt with and are dealing with every time something similar happens.

Oh there was backlash all right... on their facebook page people were apparently ripping them apart.  I am part of a breastfeeding support group on facebook and the women there went crazy over the comment!!

I don't get why anyone even CARES...like seriously why is it even anyone's business how someone feeds their kid?  I get the squigs at the thought of BFing a 4 year old but whatev's not my boob, not my kid.  If you want to bare it all in public, there are several dozen other directions I can choose to look so I don't see your boob, if you bottle feed cool, if you supplement some other chicks milk because breast milk is the end all be all for your precious princess then cool beans.  I suppose I got other shit to worry about than what some other chick is sticking in her kids mouth.

UO:  I don't like secret santas at work.  it's like forced family fun and a giant waste of money.

After I thought about this, I decided I cannot detach from this issue anymore. 26 children were killed, yet people still argue against gun control. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, PEOPLE.

So much this.  The friend we lost was a 17 year old girl at the high school right down the street, here my kids will go. Absolutely unacceptable.  There needs to be control right now. Period.  But the problem is, we have turned into such a selfish, instant gratification society and the fix isn't going to happen instantaneously.  We'll put controls in place and it's still going to happen again, several time, because we have to fix our broken mentality too and that is going to take several generations to happen. But those objecting to the changes will use that as proof that they are right and we are wrong, when it's just a matter of being patient.  But if it means my grandchildren don't have to worry about this I am more than fine with doing what I have to do now.   There is ZERO justification for us just accepting this.

I reached my limit recently with the way violent crime was being under reported in my community and down played as criminals killing one another. I spoke out on FB (which raised plenty of eyebrows since I'm all about happy things like Botox and travel) and just over a week later a young mother was raped and murdered during a random early morning home invasion that gained national attention. Our local media and police force have definitely changed the way they talk about crime in our city. Wonder how long it will last before everyone buries their heads in the sand again.
@jimbobcooter I couldn't have said it better and I am saddened to know how close to home gun violence has hit. I'm pretty centrist in my politics but I've had it with the right to bear arms shit. Nobody needs a right to bear automatic assault weaponry.

My opinion, unpopular: I'm over Adele. Loved 19 but 6 years later I'm over the whiny relationship angst. She has a beautiful voice. Use it to sing about something else.

@jimbobcooter I'm sorry for your loss. I've said my opinions many times over here. It's so incredibly tragic what is happening here with gun violence. I do believe a tide is changing here. People are fed up. I'm still hopeful that change will happen and it will happen now.

No other developed nation on the face of this planet has such a love affair with guns and no one comes close to our level of gun violence. It has got to stop. I wish there was a way to regulate sales of violent movies and video games. I think our kids are exposed early and desensitized to violence because of this crap. I remember a 12 yo kid telling me how he played for 30 hrs a week. Like, kid, where are your parents? We learned gun safety early, and grew up in a house with several of them. They were never thought of as toys.

The other day, as I was driving home after picking up B, I was listening to all the details about the San Bernandino shooting on the radio, and was pretty much in the verge of a minor panic attack. I called my mom crying because I just feel like maybe I made the wrong choice bringing my sweet baby into a world that is so violent. It can happen anywhere- schools, malls, movie theatres. Sometimes I seriously don't know how I wil ever let B go anywhere. It is so sad that we have to be so on guard all the time.

I think @jimbobcooter and tatersalad said it best. This country has got to change. I personally know people that have questionable mental stability that own an arsenal of weaponry. Why?! It's insane. I agree Joolschweets- DNW guns in my home, period. I think DH would like to have one, but he doesn't really bring it up any more because he knows how opinionated I am about them. I am all for responsible people that have taken gun safety courses being allowed to own hunting rifles, and even a pistol if they feel like they need it for protection, but semi automatic assault rifles do not need to be in American homes.

I am with everyone on gun saftey and stricter rules.. My Dh wants one as well and now that we have the baby I keep saying no. There was a period of time (3 years) that we had one. It was our roommates, but he was also a police officer and highly trained on how to use them. In MD (where i live) in order to have a gun you have to take a test, show that you know how to properly use one and be licensed (if you are buying one legally that is). You cant just walk into a store and purchase one. Yes anyone can get a gun illegally but if more states had stricter rules i think it would help as well. Something needs to change because this world is becoming scarier and scarier.

I grew up in a house with guns but I never had access to them. We currently have 4 guns in our house. I was taught very early on the seriousness of guns and what can do.
I don't know what will work to fix or society. We are broken as a human race and have been since Eve ate that fruit.
The world is scary and I ache knowing I brought an innocent life into it. But, I pray that the generation we are raising together will be taught to make the world a better place than it is now.

Today was the funeral for the officer who was killed during the Planned Parenthood attack. The county I work with is right on the interstate between Colorado Springs and Denver. On my way home from court this morning I passed the law enforcement procession heading down from the metro area to the services on the opposite side of the interstate. It was one huge line, about three miles long, of patrol cars, SUVs, and motorcycles all will their lights on. I was completely caught off guard when I was overcome by emotion, started crying, had to pull off at the next exit to compose myself.
