Guess what? I'm in favor of mandatory sterilization again.

Reproductive rights do not supersede the human rights of children in our country....well, actually I guess they do, but they shouldn't IMO.  At some point enough is enough.  I just read 5 other cases similar to this (http://www.hlntv.com/slideshow/2014/10/21/squalor-houses-child-abuse-crime).  Nope nope nope.  Behaviors have consequences, this is true in all of life.  And when those behaviors keep producing children who suffer unimaginably and often irreparably, well, sorrynotsorry, time for those consequences.

I need to get off the computer before my head explodes.  I just cannot deal with consistent and ongoing child neglect and cruelty like this.  Thinking about what those little people suffered through and had no understanding of what was going on makes me ragey.

I don't want to get all crazy on things but I agree there should be measures/mandates/court orders put in place to prevent people from having kid after kid especially after cases of death, neglect and abuse. I can't go into much more or I will get all political and soap boxy but I will say I agree.

It ranks up there with me around sex offenders and why we don't chemically castrate the most violent offenders or offenders against children.

I agree. Especially about sex offenders. My grandfather was jailed 3! Separate times!!!! And was still released early, because he was sick.

Below is just my opinion and my person experience with this.  

I think there are enough severe repeat offenders and there are non perm ways of sterilization like court mandated IUD, arm implant, depo shot etc.  I know they aren't fool proof but they are better than what most are currently doing which is nothing.  

I know someone who has 7 kids in the system as her parents were too old to care for them and yet she is pregnant again with another abusive fool and probably still doing drugs.  She knows what causes pregnancy but at this point she doesn't care.  She was allowed to keep her infant in the house born after her other kids removed and then he ends up very hurt at the hands of the boyfriend. Now she has 7 kids who are siblings but aren't together as its hard to keep them together and will probably add another child to the system.  Just because she has faced neglect and harm to a child charges doesn't me the system will automatically take away her next born child as she hasn't posed a threat to that child until she poses a threat.  It's completely unfair to that child on the way as pattern dictate that child will most likely come to harm or neglect at the very least.  If the court mandated she do the depo shot or arm implant etc then if she cleans up her act and becomes able to care for a child, then the bc can be stopped and she can be given the opportunity to parent a child in a healthy environment.  

The idea of rich vs poor will always create a divide in any rule across any offense.  Look at the NFL and other major sports areas.  These guys get slaps on the wrist as they can afford to buy their way out while someone with a public defender tends to get the max sentence.  Its a fact of life that the rich are seemingly above the law and while I don't agree with it, I definitely can't change it. 

Meanwhile in Texas couples like me and DW can't foster these kids because we will harm them as we are same sex parents. Yeah whole other subject but still.

Again this is all just venting frustration as it would be a violation of rights to actually do this much like chemical castration has become viewed as a violation of rights.

I feel like I would just be repeating the same things I said in the other thread, I still feel the same. I think it is sick, sad, and wrong when kids are abused, or not well cared for, and I understand your feelings. The reality of forced sterilization implement by the government will never be OK with me.

I don't know how it would all work.  But we can put people on the moon so I think we as a society can figure it out.  The answer is absolutely not "do nothing".  Because nothing has landed us with hundreds of thousands of kids in foster care and untold numbers more suffering in silence like all the poor babies in those articles.  Part of the problem right now is that there are no consequences.  In America you can have as many kids as you want that you can't or won't care for, and society will pick up the tab, and the children will be broken forever, and that's all a-ok because it's your right.  Nope.  Your rights end when they take away the rights and freedoms of others.  IMO.  I now I sound snarky towards you and I do not mean to, it is not directed at you at all.   I am just extremely fired up about this topic because I keep seeing it over and over and over and it is just not ok.

Putting someone in prison is a violation of rights and we as a society have decided we are ok with that.  I could get ok with violating some more rights if it meant children were not forced to suffer the way so many are right in our own backyards.    I am not saying this is the only thing that needs to be done.  I am all for free birth control, lots of education, parenting classes, parenting mentor programs, support groups, etc. too.  But those things are going to take awhile to work and they aren't going to motivate everyone.  There are cases of people who simply do not give a crap and will keep having kids because they can with no thought toward the child.  Each case in the links I posted is an example of that.

After seeing The Imitation Game I'm not sure how I feel about the chemical castration thing.  Granted, in that case it was not done on a violent offender so it was just horrific and sad.   But still, it seemed like a horrible way to live.  But then I am not sure what the solution would be for offenders like you mentioned.  Vasectomies solve my issue, but not this one.  I really would love to just shove my head in the sand and pretend the world is all puppies and rainbows.
