Anyone want to talk about The Leftovers? (spoilers)

What did you think about this season and the finale last night?

Some of my thoughts.. what makes Kevin so special that he can keep coming back? And what did the cavewoman have to do with any of this?

I'm kind of obsessed with this show. I watched the first season since it seemed like an interesting story... anything with cults or apocalyptic type events is fascinating to me. The first season was ok, and I was interested enough to watch the second season. I thought the second season was AMAZING. The storytelling and the acting were soooo good. I didn't think too much of Justin Theroux after the first season, but I think he should be nominated for some type of award for his acting in this season.

Anyway, I thought the finale was pretty good. Not my favorite episode of the season (that would be International Assassin, which was one of the best episodes of TV that I've seen in a while), but I thought it did a good job of wrapping up most of the story lines (since HBO hasn't renewed this show yet so they couldn't leave too much open ended). I'm still kind of processing it but I think the episode was well put together. It didn't surprise me that the silver RV didn't actually have explosives in it. That seems to be Meg's thing... scaring people but not actually hurting them. Like how they covered Tommy with gasoline but didn't actually light him on fire, or how she threw the pretend grenade into the school bus but it didn't explode. She just wants to have the power to make people be afraid.

It did bug me a bit that Kevin was able to die and come back again. I LOVED the International Assassin episode, but I was a little annoyed that he went back to the hotel in this episode. However, I appreciated the storytelling once he was there - how he picked the Mapleton police officer outfit this time and his performance singing that song was very moving. But it didn't totally make sense to me that he was able to come back again. He came back the first time because he was buried in a shallow grave (like the birds) and because he completed his mission. This time it wasn't so momentous. Maybe this time was just a dream and he didn't actually die again??

I am still confused by the cavewoman thing, but there are some interviews with the show's writers on the facebook page that somewhat explain that. And I'm a little confused why Tommy seemed ready to join the GR and has feelings (?) for this crazy woman who basically raped him, but then a couple scenes later he is at home with Kevin's family? Overall though, I was pretty impressed by this season and I hope the show gets renewed!

This season was definitely interesting! There have been a lot of WTF moments but it all came together in the end. I guess the first season was like that too though. I agree that the acting was great.

I'd like there to be another season. I'm not sure where the story will go next but I really want to know what actually happened to the departed. Are they dead? Did they go to some alternate universe? Did something else happen?

I read an article that said the well is in the same location that the cavewoman died. So that's the connection but I guess I still don't get it beyond that. Maybe that's the point.

I watch too, but I've got about five episodes left for this season! Don't mind the spoilers, though, since I read all the articles I can!

I haven't yet. I looked at the book on Amazon a while ago, and it seemed to have mixed/poor reviews. I wasn't sure if it was worth reading, especially since the show has diverged quite a bit from the book's plot... Have you read the book?

I haven't. And like all other Tom Perrotta books, it's on my list, but just haven't gotten around to it. Seems interesting enough, but it sounds like neither the book nor the show are ever going to answer the burning question I'm sure most have: Where did the Departed go?!

I watch! But I am about 4 episodes behind. So I also scrolled super duper fast to the bottom after reading a few teasers. I will hopefully catch up this week!

MH and I are having a hard time liking this show. It doesn't help that the creators of LOST made it because that show majorly let us down. They give you 1 answer but offer 10 more questions.

I like Kevin's character and his storyline pretty exclusively. I also liked how Mary came back to reality but they still don't really explain why she did.

I feel like the creators of the show are just being lazy in not really having a grand plan for anything. I just feel so frustrated with it.

I have no idea what the cavewoman has to do with this entire show. I have no idea what relevance the quakes have. I have no idea why anyone puts up with the GR. I have no idea why that crazy lady stole the toddler then dropped her on the bridge.

Maybe that's the point of this show? That everything is meaningless and as soon as you attribute meaning to something you are shown that it bears no significance at all. Life is pointless, nothing matters.

Think I'll go smoke a cigarette.

I watch it and enjoy it but am also a few episodes behind. I don't mind the spoilers bc as crazy as the show is I figure you all may help explain something I'd otherwise miss. I loved the first season and find this season to be a little less exciting; possibly I'm aggravated that nothing is being explained.

I liked the finale but agree that Kevin shouldn't have died again. And I was confused when Evie wrote "you understand." Eric a understands because she does things she doesn't want to (stay with John)? That's the only thing I can think of. I hated when that woman stole Lilly. I don't love Nora but that kinda broke my heart. I wonder where they're going next season with this, should it be renewed.

And Justin Theroux is a dreamboat.

All I could think about during the bathtub scene was Sweatpants-Gate. I couldn't stop looking. #creeper
