So I hope this is not a silly question I just feel rather clueless in this department. Since our LO are going to be born in May, what would a newborn wear that time of year? I realize once he's like 3m it's going to be hot out and he'll most likely live in onesies, but May is not that hot around here(Connecticut). I'm trying to get some essentials for his first few months but what would you recommend for a newborn? Short sleeve or long, long pants? Also do they always require a hat when out in the sun, or just the first couple months?
I live in CT too. My son was born in march and he lived in long sleeved sleepers for the first couple of month. May and even June can be so variable, in would have long and short sleeved things available. When it was 70 or so, we'd dress him in a short sleeves onsie and pants. Also, he might be swaddled some of time in the beginning so that will provide an extra layer.
My DS was born in early June which can still be cool in Ohio. I mostly kept him in sleepers indoors. For going places we had a bunch of short sleeved onesies, some soft pants, and kept a hoodie/jacket in his diaper bag at all times. Lots of socks, too. Lots.

Thank you! I agree chemmom1 about May and June, you just never know what you're gonna get around here.
I'm in Virginia and expecting "spring" type of weather that time of year- I think she will probably be in short sleeve onesies and pants or 1 piece sleepers/rompers when we are inside. Both my babies spent a lot of time wrapped in a blanket as a new newborn. For going out, long sleeve onesies, pants, maybe a little jacket/hoodie. I'll get a few hats for warmth and probably 1 for sun protection. By 3 months, it will be pretty hot here, so on super hot days, lots of time just a onesie will do inside and maybe a short sleeve romper or some other "shorts" outfit for going out.
I'm DYING to have this baby girl here and dress her in adorable clothes- not that my 2 boys didn't have cute stuff, but I see something with a bow on it or a flower print or a ruffle and I just about die!!
I might have shared this before but this was how I announced to DH that it was a girl- went shopping immediately
Lightweight footed sleepers for a little while, and then usually onesies or in DDs case, rompers.
Floppy hats, thin muslin blankets for shade!
Oh yes, the muslin blankets are so nice and lightweight. Both my boys still sleep with them at night (along with a heavier fleece blanket when it's cold). Just bought a 3 pack with some Kohls cash I had to use up

We live in Missouri and the weather is so incredibly unpredictable. Luckily my sister gave us boxes of her girls baby clothes so we will have a variety of long and short sleeve outfits with pants, and both cotton and fleece sleepers. It really depends on your area, but cotton sleepers and outfits with pants are probably a safe bet. You can always add a blanket or undershirt if it's a particularly cool day.
My nieces were born in June... My sister recommended short sleeve onesies with leggings and a sweater for going out. If it gets hot, just take the sweater off. I have lots of light weight sleepers and nighties for sleeping in, and we plan on swaddling at night. We always have the ac on so it'll be cold at night.
Definitely add sun hats and muslin blankets to the list.
hellok2010 I live in Missouri, too! The weather here is totally insane. It was supposed to snow tomorrow but now it's supposed to be in the upper 40s? What?

I know right and the whole 60 degrees one day wind chill of 20 the next. I've always lived here and I'm still surprised by the weather every year.
We have some long sleeved onesies, and will get a few pairs of pants, plus a couple of lightweight footed sleepers. I need to wait for Carters to change over their stuff to spring before I get those last items.
We will likely put her in long sleeve onesies and a swaddle me for night time and just play it by ear for daytime. When we go out, we always have a blanket, so we'll just adjust that to being lightweight or heavier weight, depending on the temp that day.
Also, don't go too crazy buying NB size onesies, they are TEENY TINY. Having a few is fine, but def have more in the 3m range. And, gerber runs super small, IMO, so def do not get NB in gerber!

My first two LOs were born in June in Indiana. My first was born in a very hot summer, and she also ran hot and was in nothing but diapers and short-sleeved onesies all summer. The second slept better in footed sleepers. So really you never know.
