Is anyone else getting betas done? I had one yesterday and I'm kinda wigging out about it, at 24 on 15DPO. I'm just doing my best to hold on to the knowledge that the number means less than the doubling time.

My MW office doesn't do any blood work. It is bothering me, bc I suspect progesterone was a factor in the m/c I had. I wish I could get betas and progesterone tested just for peace of mind

My OB doesn't want to see me until 8 weeks, and told me that the dollar store pregnancy tests were good enough for her. I am crossing my fingers that you get an awesome second beta next week.

Because of my loss history I got a beta at 10 DPO and they want me to do one a week later. I'm going Monday (16 DPO) due to my schedule and I'll be checking doubling for sure.
dc2london That sucks! They won't even give you orders to get it done somewhere else? You'd think they'd want to keep an eye on it after your loss.
fishchicks I'm not seeing my midwife until January 11, but my RE wants to definitely track me through a couple betas, just in case. Thanks for the crossed fingers!

As PPs said, rise matters.
Wow, why such a long time? Is it just because of how early?

Yeah. I would have preferred a 48 hour, but they are already accommodating me (they usually just do a confirmation beta at 6 weeks), so I didn't argue.

I wonder if I could get my PCP to order it. Although, unfortunately, my insurance sucks so it will be $$$

There are some labs that will draw/test for you OOP without a doctor's order.
However, both of my RE's believe that progesterone only helps if started before implantation, but I totally get wanting to know and would also want to supplement if it were low.

Doubling time is more important, you have to start somewhere. My first beta was 39.6 at 8dp5dt (13dpo). I've had a total of five betas because my reproductive immunologist is crazy about monitoring. While the results have been reassuring, especially after my bleeding scare, waiting for the results have been torture. I always convince myself that the number is going to be bad. I have a love/hate relationship with betas.
TTC #1 since August 2011 DH (32): SA is ok, slightly low morph, normal SCSA Me (32): Slightly low P4, hostile CM, carrier for CF, high NKC, High TNFa, heterozyogous mutated Factor XIII, and +APA October 2012-August 2015: 4 failed IUIs, 3 failed IVFs, 2 failed FETs w/donor embryos, 1 freeze all IVF, 1 Failed FET, and 1 cancelled FET November 2015: FET w/ DEm #3 Transferred 1 perfect 6AA blast

There are legit websites you can pay for blood work, go to your preferred lab and get the results online in 1 -2 days. I did it early in my pregnancy and have no regrets. Lmk if you need more information.

Yes please!!
I used walkinlab.com and paid less than $40 for my hcg number. You pay, and then take the orders to a lab, just make sure not to give the lab any insurance info. Mark it as oop and it will come up as pre paid.

Thankfully, waiting for the beta results isn't as bad as me having them, hahaha. I hope yours never give you a reason to worry!

Hopefully I am done with betas. Beta #5 was 15,569 at 23dp5dt (28dpo or 6 weeks). That was up from 7,406 three days earlier, so a 66 hour doubling time (doubling times slow as betas get higher, we were looking for at least a 72 hour doubling time). Next up is an u/s Monday at 6w4d, hopefully we will see a heartbeat.

Sorry, follow-up question. If I want to monitor my beta doubling time do I need to order two HcG lab tests, or will they do two routinely?

I believe you'd need to order 2. I only went once to compare to the betas my doctor did.
How much stock do you guys put into P4 (progesterone)? I finally got those results today instead of with my betas last Friday and it's also sitting pretty low at 7.9 (15DPO on day of draw). It was higher for my ovulation confirmation bloodwork at 9.4 (4DPO on day of draw).
I know P4 fluctuates throughout the day and maybe it just got drawn on a low spike on Friday. No bleeding (except for extremely scant brown sticky cm, which I'm sure doesn't count) so far, but I'm having a really hard time calming myself down.

Someone speak soothing words at me?
I believe that # is in the borderline to low range. However low progesterone, if that is the issue alone, can totally be treated by supplementation. I was on progesterone for my last pregnancy because my OB had (maybe wrongly) diagnosed me with a luteal phase defect. I used the oral pills as suppositories and it was an easy, if not particularly fun, process. If I were you I'd be on the phone with my OB asking if I needed supplementation and if so would they please send a prescription to the closest lab asap.
Sorry you're getting not terribly reassuring #s. Did your beta double?

I'm getting them drawn after work tonight (5pm PST), so I'm probably not going to get results until tomorrow.
I sent a message through my patient portal to my CNM, so hopefully she gets back to me at some point today. I'll admit...I'm kinda freaking out. Damn these first tri nerves.
I'm also planning to call my RE in an hour or two, when they're back from lunch, so I can see what they suggest. If they want to supplement, I'll strongarm my provider to get me in to an OB or dx me supplements over the phone.
