My plan was not to have an epidural when I went into labor so I didn't do much research besides what I had read about losing the urge to push, headaches, etc. I ended up being induced after my water broke and those contractions were terrible. The nurse kind of talked me into it, although I was definitely not reluctant at that point, and I asked her about the complications. The only thing she mentioned was the migraines. The other night I bent backwards to stretch my back a little bit and noticed that in the middle of my back it feels like there is something between the vertebrae that makes it stiff and painful to bend. I am about 4 weeks PP and just now noticing it. Just wondering if any of you ladies have heard of/experienced such a thing? I of course asked doctor Google, but after the first page I didn't even want to go there anymore. I just wonder if it has to do with the epidural or if I need to go see a chiropractor because my back could be out of place. I will be sure to bring it up when I go back for my PP exam. Thank you in advance for all your help!
I don't remember having any issues with that 4 weeks pp with ds 1. However if you were not sore there consistently after giving birth I'm guessing you should visit your chiro and mention it at your pp visit.
Thanks! I remember in the hospital I felt like my back was the more sore than anything else. It felt much better within a few days, though. I am planning on mentioning it to my doctor since it doesn't seem to bother me unless I'm trying to bend backwards, and see what she says. Hopefully all it will take is a trip to the chiropractor.

I agree with grommom ... I had an epi and have had some back pain. However it's related to holding the dictator. I'd mention it to your doc but at this point it's likely not related to the epi. Ps. I'm sorry the nurse talked you into it. Pitocin contractions are no joke.
I got the epi-- I had some pain there for a couple of days, but as my body started to readjust to no longer having a large bump, the majority went away after getting it popped into place. I have some pain occasionally on touch from where it was inserted, but it also took a few tries to get it in-- my spine was all out of wack from scoliosis that became super prominent during pregnancy. Only other side effect I had was headaches, but that was contributed more to blood loss than the epi

I got an epidural too. I'm 8 days PP, and my back is still sore at the injection site. If I stand too long, sit wrong, get to active, bend a lot, ect my back gets really painful. So much so it's hard to breath and move. I don't recall my epidural with my 1st, or second baby being like this. With my 3rd, I had issues, had to get a blood patch due to the epidural headache, so I was sore for months! I went to get a massage by my SIL 3 months PP, and I had to have her not massage me in that area.

My back hurt for about a week PP. It felt tingly and numb at times, but eventually went away. At 4 weeks PP I kind of doubt it's related to the epi, but I could be wrong. It might help to do some yoga poses (like cat, cow and child's pose). My back hurts now but pretty sure it's from carrying LO around all the time and not sitting directly on my bum most the time from my lovely roids.
I have 4 little bears, just like my name says. 2 girls 2 boys ages 8,5,3, and my newest babe. 2 of my little bears have life threatening food allergies, feel free to ask me more about that!
I had a spinal block for my c-section, but about 2 weeks pp I noticed a bruised like feeling in my back where they injected it, and it lasted several days.
I had back pain, but it wasn't related to the epi. At first, it was because I had to learn how to stand up straight again with no belly. Then it was from lugging my bub around.
I should also mention I had some pretty bad back labor so I also think that there's some residue tenderness from that (like, it occurs when I cramp, too)
I had bad back labor also! I'm not so worried about it being related to the epi any more, but I will make an appointment with a chiropractor. I remember thinking right after birth that was going to be necessary since it felt like my hips were so far apart but that gradually went away. Thanks!!
I had the epidural. I'm only 12 days PP but I have noticed some back pain but it's normally only when my uterus contracts. Usually when I'm pumping. Not sure if my issue is the same as yours or if it's related to the epidural at all. But thought I would throw my experience out there!
