Of course I'm coming down with a cold right before traveling this weekend. I blame DS for rubbing his snotty nose all over my face when he gives kisses :-) Anyway I know there are some meds you can take and I can do the research, but what's actually worked for you that have been sick? I feel like any medicine that's safe is 0% effective for me. Usually I would guzzle NyQuil each night and feel fine in a few days, but that's out for the time being. Thanks!
I recently felt like I was coming down with a cold an started taking vitamin c, I felt better almost immediately. Not sure if it was coincidence or what. Other then that last time I was pregnant I got a couple colds and literally nothing helped.
rungirlrun, The last time I was sick was 2 weeks before my wedding in October (which was actually before I was PG). Someone had recommended a natural remedy for me and I was super skeptical but willing to try anything... and I SWEAR it worked! Not the most appetizing concoction, but it worked!
8 or 10 oz warm/hot water (as hot as you can handle to drink relatively quickly) 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 tablespoon honey Juice from 1/4 or 1/2 lemon Mix well, and drink quickly
You can add a little more honey or lemon juice to cut down the vinegar taste if you need. Do this 2-3 times per day until you feel better. I swear it worked wonders!!

When I had a cold, I was told I could take Tylenol and that's about it for first tri. Drink tea, sip warm chicken stock, spoonfuls of honey help ease throat pain and has antibacterial properties, and for nasal congestion, a humidifier, and saline spray or a sinus rinse system like NeilMed. Hope you feel better soon.

You can try Claritin. My doctor suggests that in general for a cold because there is some overlap in the mechanisms for colds and allergies. It isn't as great as NyQuil, but it helped some of my symptoms.
I got a list from my doctor yesterday that said Sudafed and Robitussin are safe, as well as Tylenol, and of course saline spray.
I was just going to say this as well. Get a list from your doctor all of the meds they say are safe. I refer to mine all the time and I feel safer than googling from rando internet sources.

cocobellaf, acorn99, I haven't been to the dr yet (1st appt is tomorrow, yay!) so I don't have a current list. I'll get one though. I do remember vaguely from my last pregnancy what is safe to take, but unfortunately, safe drugs do nothing for me. I want the hard core stuff! So since those are out, I wanted to see if anyone had any secret natural tricks to fighting colds, like ginabini magical drink!
On a side note, I use an app Mommy Meds which rates drugs and how safe they are in each trimester/post baby if breastfeeding. I can't remember where I learned about it, but I know it was a legit source so I trust it in addition to using common sense.
