I'm going to be a PW today but MH just brought this up.
Friday I have a work party where last year I let loose so everyone is like "yay drinking with youdontsay!"
Well I can't do that now so how do I get away with not drinking and people not getting suspicious? Also to make things even more fun, there's 20 of us going so we just split the checks 5 ways, so it's not like I can get seltzer water in an old fashioned glass and tell people it's vodka and seltzer. Should I just ask the bartender to charge me for a full drink and give me seltzer with lime?

You can say that you really don't want to do that again this year. You don't want to perpetuate that image of yourself.
I'm also using the, "I don't feel very good, I'm afraid I might barf," approach.
I told people I was on antibiotics and couldn't drink, or that I didn't feel well, or that I was the DD. I also ordered a hard cider or wine and just took a few sips. People really don't notice unless you make a big deal of not drinking.

At my holiday party today I told people I was holding back on the calories because I've put on so much weight since summer. I figured that kills two birds with one stone: no one questions the food/beverage choices and no one questions the weight gain/bloat.

You can use the "I'm taking medication that doesn't let me drink" excuse, possibly.
I usually stick with taking fake sips from the same wine glass all night and then giving it to MH to drink, but that works best at stand up type parties where the same people aren't looking at you all night.

I told people I was on medication. They are suspicious though, but I've gained a lot of weight so people have been playing "fat or pregnant" with me for months now.

Someone on another board said they were on antibiotics for a raging UTI and people dropped the subject. I like this excuse because it accounts for not drinking and frequent peeing.
