Anyone take thyroid meds and acid reflux meds?

hi all!

I feel like such a senior citizen having to pop so many pills in multiple orifices every day, and am just trying to figure out how to handle it all.  I just got prescribed the generic of Protonix for some acid reflux issues I've been having.  I already take Synthroid for my hypothyroid.  Both are supposed to be taken in the morning, before eating anything.  My doctor says I should take the Synthroid first, and then "wait as long as I can" (she said the "ideal" is 4 hours, but she said 1 or 2 is ok) and then to take the acid reflux med and then wait another 30 minutes and THEN eat breakfast. The pharmacist, however, says I can take them 30 minutes apart.

Things I do not like: 
a) not eating breakfast
b) waking up at the crack of dawn

Anyone on both thyroid hormones and acid reflux meds like Nexium, Protonix, Prilosec?  How do you take yours?

I only take Levothyroxine, but can you keep your thyroid meds on your nightstand and take that as soon as you wake up? Then hopefully by the time you finish getting up and ready for the day it'll have been at least 30 minutes and you can take your acid reflux meds?

Do you wake up in the night to pee?

Or can you set an alarm around 1am (or something) to take your synthroid then you can take the acid reflux med when you get up for the day?

I could do that, but I also enjoy having a husband and would like him to stick around

I've just started treatment for hypothyroidism, but my MIL takes her EDIT: thyroid medication at night, and she says that it seems to work better. I've wondered about that actually, and have wanted to ask. Is that advisable?

The idea was more that if you naturally somehow get up in the middle of the night, you can pop your synthroid, go back to sleep and then only need to worry about the acid reflux med in the morning.  I get up several times to pee every night (have for years now) so I do this when I need to double my dose of synthroid.  I like to space the two pills out a little.

But if you usually sleep through the night, then I guess this isn't much help.  Haha.

Been there done that. I took my Prilosec in the AM.


I was taking my thyroid Meds at night for the longest time- you just have to wait 3 hours after dinner to do so. My levels were great, but my PNV makes me nauseous, so I'm back to levothyroxine in the AM

I will definitely ask my doc about taking the Synthroid at night. I am a night owl so there's usually quite a bit of time between when I've eaten anything and when I actually go to bed. I guess I can balance it all if I switch all my vitamins and supplements to midday. Thanks all for the advice!
