Question for Mommas who's babes had/have chronic lung disease-
Does your baby show a respiratory preference to cold, warm, or neutral air temp?
My little seems to do better when they turn the heater/humidifier down but they can't/won't leave it for long because they don't want to dry her out. I understand but am curious if I can figure out a way to manipulate this preference to help her get better faster.
Me: 27 DH: 35 MFI, failed vas-reversal TTC since 2011 Met RE 7/2012 6 failed IUIs 9/2014 IUI BFP, MMC @12 weeks, natural mc @ home 11/18/2014 01/2015 IUI, BFP, CP 2/2015 IUI, BFP, due 11/14/15 delivered 9/8/15 via emergency CS for severe preeclampsia. Currently in the NICU.
When you say "dry out" are you talking about her skin or dehydrating in general?
Edit to add: she was on the high humidity c pap and started having desats in it so they bumped her to just a cannula. It's not cld, but it fits with your theory about the humidity.

She was doing really good but she's had a few episodes of coughing/gagging/choking and it almost sounds like she aspirated and is needing more oxygen. Ugh. It's never ending. Other than that. Same ol'. It feels like it will take forever.

Ugh, that sucks. Sorry you guys are still in there, it looks from your siggy that it's been a long time. We were there for 84 days and I swear, going to the nicu was like going to my house. The coffee shop guy knew me, the security guards knew me (I would get coffee every morning and they were always waiting for the place to open), all of the nurses knew us by name.
How are YOU doing sweetcali? I know it's super stressful but I hope you find time to do stuff for you, even if it's just taking a walk or getting coffee or something. Hugs.
It's been 3.5 months. We have been to 3 NICUs and at each I sit at her bedside all day, every day. Everyone knows me too. I still get my nails and hair done but wish I could find time and energy to exercise. I've been taking more and more time at home in preparation for going back to work on the 4th. It's going to be hell.

Hugs to you, sweetcali. I hope you were able to enjoy Christmas with your sweet LO. DD spent 3 months at 2 NICUs, and I returned to work after 8 weeks so I could save FMLA time for when she was discharged. I'll be thinking of you!
motownthrowdown I wanted to say thanks again for linking that article. I was able to bring it up and convince the RTs that cooler is better and so at least now I don't have to ask for them to go back and forth between the settings, they just do it on their own. We've also noticed a direct correlation with how much oxygen she's needing and the temp it's set at. We just need this girl to get to 2L at least so she doesn't need all that humidity.

You're welcome! I'm glad it helped. Battling with the doctors is not fun...we did it several times.

They always recommend a humidifier and cooler temp for my son, who has CLD. That's when he does best. Also consistency is key - sudden changes make it hard for him.
