Anyone do any dry brushing for their body?

I've been wanting to and got a brush today, any good recommendations on what to do, what not to do?

I work at a spa where we do dry brushing. The therapists always suggest brushing towards the heart to help circulation but that's about all I know.

I have a book that suggests dry brushing your nipples so they aren't as sensitive to nursing. Other than that I know nothing about it. What kind of brush? Where did you get it?

I used to dry brush, I need to start doing it again. I always used to before bed and before my shower. Brush toward the heart in long strokes. It's suppose to help with cellulite as well, and I did see some improvement with that when I was doing it daily. Life just got in the way but thanks for reminding me!

Oh no. You do not need to do anything to "toughen up" your nipples for nursing. It's extremely outdated advice.

It's basically just brushing your skin with a special brush. It's suppose to release toxins (being that it technically is our largest organ) and exfoliates dead cells, reduces cellulite. My skin was so soft when I did it, I actually really liked it so I'm going to start again tomorrow, I really just forgot about it hahha.

Interesting fact, this is still the advice in many South American countries. All my friends did it and they swear by it.

I haven't done it and know that it can cause contractions so I'm not recommending it.

Other than nipple stimulation potentially causing contractions, another reason it's not recommended is that you can get tiny abrasions on the nipples and cause infection that will actually hinder breastfeeding.

My family is from South America and my Mom said I need to start putting oil on my nipples to prepare for breastfeeding. I didn't ask why because I figured old wives tale but now I'm curious. I wouldn't try dry brushing nipples, sounds unpleasant.

Usually they tell you to get a baby toothbrush and use rubbing alcohol to gently brush them. You also need to twist and pull on the nipple with your fingers to toughen them and shape them for BFing.

As I said most of my friends back home swear by it, and my sister and mom did it with all their kids. I didn't do it because I'm too lazy honestly, but hoping this time around is easier to BF.

Yep! I love my dry brush. I got it from The body shop and do it before my shower. It's great for exfoliating, cellulite, and stimulating the lymphatic system. Start from your feet and move up in long over lapping strokes toward your heart. Once I get to my chest I do my arms, back and finish over my heart.

I'm not really sure, but i honestly did see my cellulite start to diminish when I dry brushed.

My assumption/guess is that improved circulation nourishes the skin and helps improve elasticity of the collagen
