This book is awesome. It's very honest and uses appropriate (anatomically correct) terminology. My 3 year old daughter really likes it and I think it would also be great for the 4,5,6 year old siblings.
Thanks for the recommendation! We've been watching the Daniel Tiger episodes when he gets a baby sister so DS gets an idea of what will happen but I've been looking for books too.
Thanks! We got her a big sister book and she seemed pretty excited about that but I still don't think she fully understands. She did get to see the ultrasound Monday that there really is something there but it was an older machine with not a very clear picture. We are taking her with us this next Monday for the gender ultrasound so she can see it better. Books like that have been great though for explaining changes that will happen at home. I will have to look into that one.
Thanks for the info! How do you think that book would go over for the 2 year old crowd? I've been looking for a really simple book about a new baby, but not sure which ones would be too advanced for DS. Probably most of them.

There are Daniel Tiger books too We're looking into them since DD is such a big fan of the show
What network is this "Daniel tiger" on? Or is it Netflix? I've never caught it on anywhere but I read how many littles enjoy it. It might not compare to bubble guppies but if it can keep DD more or less contained to an area for a few minutes ...

Pbs. It's also on Netflix. It's a spin off of Mr. Rodgers.
Thanks for the recommendation I will definitely check into it. We watch the Daniel Tiger episode too where he gets a baby sister. We also have the Daniel Tiger big brother book. It's really simple and easy to understand (she's 2) and just a few pages long but I think it does a pretty good job. I'm probably more worried than I need to be about this adjustment but I'm an only child so it's hard for me to relate to having a sibling to help explain things to her. My husband is the oldest of 4 (youngest 2 being twins) but he's so laid back that he's just like eh she'll be fine. I'm not so sure, but hoping he's right.

We have that book and we also have the Dr. Sears book "Baby on the Way." My son likes both of them. I got a couple other big brother books but I don't remember the names off the top of my head. They were ok but were a little young for my son (age 5). But I guess that makes sense, since it is more typical for a 2-3 year old to be getting their first younger sibling than for a five-year-old.
I got a very simple book called big brother, he seems to enjoy it. However he hasn't quite reached 14 months old and will be 19 months when the baby gets here. I have no idea how to go about getting him prepped.
He has seen his first baby like yesterday at daycare lol. I'm thinking of getting him a doll a bit closer to when I'm due so we can practice being gentle with baby and other things. He's not going to understand much at his age
Thanks for the recommendation! I saw that one on Amazon as well.
These just came in from Amazon for DS yesterday and he really likes them. He also has the Daniel Tiger New baby book and loves the same episode of the show (and all episodes for that matter).
I'm a Big Brother (also have I'm a Big Sister) Berenstain Bears New Baby
We have been talking to DS about his baby brother since we found out we were expecting. He totally gets it and talks about his plans with his baby brother all the time and is super excited. I think it's because a lot of kids at school have had baby siblings in the past couple of years that he's seen. He also sees the kids in the infant room daily. So, we aren't planning on getting any books or anything. Is that awful?
Oh, ILs did get DS a book and we read it and he was more interested in the stickers in the back and telling his own version of what he's doing to do with the baby than anything else.

The doll is a good idea. DS (4) was playing with the doll and rocking him and putting him to sleep when I picked him up at school the other day. His teachers said that he's been more interested in the baby play stuff lately so I think that's his way of getting ready.

Awww, he sounds so excited! I think my son will really enjoy the practice but he's pretty laid back kid and quite gentle with the cat and other things so I'm not super worried. He will just have to go with the flow anyway. Sorry, kid. You're a big brother whether you want to be or not lol.

This is what worries me! DS is not gentle with our dog at all and we have to separate them often for my dog's safety. We practice petting gently every day, but he would rather jump on the dog and poke his eyes! I'm hoping that some of our practice will sink in and that he only acts that way because my dog is huge. Fingers crossed!

He is thrilled. DS is not gentle by nature, so that's our biggest concern. It seems like he understands a lot about babies even though it's never been his experience. He's even offered to change the wet diapers, but said mommy and daddy have to do poopy diapers.
Sounds like your DS will be great if he's already gentle with the cat!

Maybe it is because the dog is huge! Ya never know. He might make the connection that a baby is fragile and he has to be more gentle.
