My pump is coming in the mail today and I am weirdly excited! So now I need some advice about pumping. I am a SAHM, so I am not looking to build a stash necessarily, but I would like to have some in reserve for DH to do a bottle occasionally, or for my parents to watch him while we go out. Should I just add in one pump session per day and see how that goes? When and for how long? Any advice is much appreciated ladies! TIA
Yes sometime after three week growth spurt start pumping once a day or every other or a few times a week. Lots of moms find baby is mostly happy with one side first thing in the an and they pump the other side for a bit of a stash. Length is around 20 minutes give or take.
You could also try pumping at night before you go to bed after a few weeks. Pretty much everything I've read recommends morning pumping, but I could never get myself to do it after having been up multiple times a night nursing. I didn't get as much at night at first, but I've slowly worked up to getting about 4 ounces for my night pumping session. Experiment with different times and see what works best for you. Good luck and congratulations!

this was true for me too. Once LO started giving longer sleep stretches, I pumped between her bedtime and mine. Just be somewhat consistent -- if your supy has regulated to need, it might take your body a bit to get the message.
I could never get very much out later at night. Morning was the absolute best (try to eat a quick snack/drink some water before starting). I made more than twice what LO needed at that hour, so it was the best time to get extra pumped milk.
I'm another one who pumped at night to start building stash. I was just too busy during the day to sit down and pump...LO took super short cat naps when he was little. He also ate rather frequently whenever the two of us are together so I got a lot more if I just pumped before I went to bed.
I pumped at night for a while too. Once LO got on a more predictable schedule I started pumping one side in the mornings if she STTN and only needed the first side to be full.
