Travel Warning for those TTC or Pregnant

We live in TN and the mosquitoes are so so bad here in summer. But travel to a rainforest, no problem!

Jealous.  I got over 120 mosquito bites (yup, I counted) in Puerto Rico.  Sucked.

Also, genetics. I lived in Puerto Rico for four years as a kid and was never bit. My mother looked like she had hives all the time.

Mosquitos prefer some people more than others.

This sucks. We have a 5 night Bahamas cruise booked for the end of April and are actively TTC, BUT with secondary infertility. We have been TFAS for nearly 2 years with no luck but I'm having laparoscopy for suspected endo in a few weeks and hold a small amount of hope that I'll have luck conceiving after that. It's a long shot, I know, but I'm not sure if we should postpone TTC until after the trip (supposed to try 1-2 more IUIs after the lap) or just cancel this trip that we have wanted to take for forever!

We are going to postpone ttc from now until 2 weeks after we get back from our cruise. So June. We are going to St Thomas, Tortola and Bahamas but then we will be back here in Florida where that mosquito lives...yaay.

DH travels to El Salvador for work, so now he's seeing if he can get some kind of note from my doctor to get permission to just work from the States for this trip and get the data from someone else.

I saw that but didnt see a clear reason why they thought it was sexually transmitted and not that there was a mosquito in their house that bit both ppl the same day. Not everyone gets itchy from bites.

Glad we r up in NY...it will take some time for the mosquitos (whatever species they are) to get active again.

Several pregnant women I know have canceled trips to Miami because of Zika. The governor declared a state of emergency in several counties but since there aren't any non-traveling cases I'm not convinced there is a real risk. I have a trip planned for March and I'll be 11 weeks pregnant and feel shamed into canceling my Florida vacation. Would you cancel??

Actually, there's only been one case of person to person transmission in the US. And that was in Texas. I believe there have been cases in Florida, but they were all in people who had traveled to areas currently affected by the outbreak.

So while the climate of Florida leads to possible Zika transmission, they have not seen it there yet. The issue is that no one knows if or when it will spread to the US with mosquito transmission, though many believe that spread is inevitable.

Basically, at this point, you only have to worry about picking up the virus here in the States if you are having unprotected sex with someone who recently traveled to an epidemic area. Note, this could easily and quickly change at any time.
