My only complaint is that I woke up too early on my own-- everyone else is sleeping. We all have a snow day today so you can't have too many complaints on a free day!
I thought this was going to be a moan, but things actually worked out well for once. I couldn't get to a meeting because of a public transport malfunction, so we had a meeting by phone, saved time and money. I hope that it is fixed by tomorrow, when I actually need to be there to teach.
Snow day and a superbowl win so shouldn't complain buut DS refused to go to sleep last night and woke up really early.. and we have to reschedule his ear checkup. Hoping for a nice snowed in nap later!
So coming from FL, no experience with snow days. For those that work, how does this work regarding days off/getting paid. So curious because if it were a hurricane, you would have to use your PTO (at least most places)
My picnic table is quickly disappearing from the snow. We are adding on to what we got with the blizzard. I do not know where they are going to put all the snow.
queenbabee I have always worked at a school, so we either did not get paid for the snow day and then we got paid for the extra day in June, or if you were salaried then you got the day off, but had to make it up in June. My husband works in an office and he works from home on snow days. They close the office and have everyone work from home.

I'm drowning in laundry, and it's a miserable mess outside. We got about 3" of snow, which is now a slushy mess because it looks like it changed over to rain, but there is a high potential for flash freezing later as it transitions back to freezing rain and sleet, and all of the rain currently on the ground freezes over as temperatures plummet. Fun times.
lainikins ok, thanks. That makes sense. I think I'm just jealous because I'm at work today...waaahhh!
Not a problem. Sorry you are stuck at work. If it makes you feel any better, I am stuck at home with a 2.5 year old who I have to keep cooped up at home and I have to keep quiet because DH has conference calls all day.

I work for a school. The first five snow days a year we are fine. We get paid and don't make them up. Any after that get tacked onto june. I'm not sure if we get paid additional or not as my district has never exceeded our 5.

I am jealous of your built in days. In CT where I went to school there were always built in days. Here in MA there are not any built in days. I have no idea why. They seem to make sense. There are almost always snow days.

just curious...
Its the same here most places. I have a union that will fight for you but you usually don't see it until retirement.

queenbabee It depends on your job. DH is a teacher so he has snow days built in. The school year will go longer for every day they miss up until a certain date (depends on the contract). My mom has to go in to work and if she can't get there she has to use a vacation day. Last week they did close her office because the blizzard was so bad but that rarely happens. I'm not working at the moment but as a nurse hospitals never close so you find a way to get there!
I got my tooth fixed last week, but haven't been able to floss on one side of it since last week (there is something in the way). I have a call into the dentist and am waiting to hear back. I am upset I am most likely going to have to go back again to get this fixed.

I have been such a forgetful, clumsy basketcase lately.
I dropped and broke an entire dozen of eggs yesterday, I slammed my thigh into the corner of my dresser last night when I got up to pee and I ripped a hole in one of my couch cushions with my boot heel.
And the best move of all was this morning in the pissing down freezing rain and slush, when I got completely dressed, got Josie completely dressed and forgot to change out of my slippers into my boots until I was ankle deep in slush on the porch.

I'm an ARNP and definitely remember that! We had a hospital lock down plan in place for hurricanes where you could have to be there ATC and family could have had to evacuate! Thank goodness this never happened to me. I'm sure it's the same for you then.
At my husbands company (car insurance) he has his first snow day ever!! In fact, it's the first snow there in 16 years. And it's a paid day off for him. My DD also has a snow day. We have about 8" down and we're just half there... getting about 16". My moan is these peeps are disrupting my routine and messing my house up!
DS' cough is still lingering & when it happens, he's always in my face. Kill me now.
Kids are gross. I hope you both start feeling better soon!
Thanks. He's doing fine, lucky him. He's only had the cough this whole time but completely fine. I'm congested, have a face/headache, runny nose, & just feel run down. I'm really glad I don't have to do anything or go anywhere today. Let's just say.. he better nap today. -_-
I had super strange weird dreams that prevented me from getting a good nights sleep. It was so crazy. My cousin and I were fighting in one of them. I hope I don't have any dreams tonight.
This is kind of related to the pros and cons list too... DD was making me crazy this weekend. Yesterday we were working on taking some quiet time for an hour (read: mom and dad needed a break!). She HATES being by herself and lasted about 20 minutes, and that was still with coming out of her room asking for stuff. This girl cannot be by herself. We went to target yesterday after taking her to see Paddington (P.S. I highly recommend going to a movie theatre on Super Bowl Sunday - dead quiet!) and she was begging for EVERYTHING there. Even going through the boring aisles, like home organization, she found lego storage pieces she wanted. Listen kid, I love target too, but this is too much! I've been trying to get a babysitter this past weekend or next weekend and I've got NOTHING. Our normal sitter is busy both weekends. Stupid teenagers think they can have lives of their own.
For a Monday it's been pretty good. My only complaint is that the new position they are opening in my office hasn't posted yet; I really want to apply for it!
