I have to take a new mom some food tomorrow. I'm doing salsa chicken with fixings and an apple crisp. What were your favorite goodies people brought you after you gave birth??

- Curried beef pot pie - it was amazing and I can't find a duplicate of the recipe anywhere (and this friend doesn't tend to share her recipes) - roast chicken with salad and bread - easy to prep, allergen friendly (in case the mom is having to do an MSPI diet or the like)
The oddest we got was a woman who brought over everything to make a salmon dinner - uncooked. H made it all up and it was fine, but we still think it was a bit strange.

I like to do chicken enchiladas for people because they freeze well and they're easy to make. My mom bought a huge chicken pot pie from Costco for us and that lasted a couple days

Someone gave us a huge pot of soup. Yes, it was July, but it was perfect because we could heat some up in small portions. Then we could freeze the rest and it reheated well.
Things like muffins are great too because they are a quick easy snack!
I think the best things for me were quick snacks. There's these oatmeal bites that were all over Pinterest and we were given a huge container. I loved those things for during nursing sessions.
I've never done these but someone on my old BMB was given some type of fresh wraps. I think they had chicken with tons of fresh veggies. She raved about having those in her fridge.
A couple of people brought dinners but I really appreciated something easy for snacks. In the early days of BFing I basically had to eat constantly. A good friend brought a huge basket of healthy, high protein snacks
We were talking about this on parenting recently. I had no idea bringing food to new moms was such a big thing. No one brought us food. My H brought me pad thai in the hospital though and that was my favorite.
Our church arranges something like 12-16 meals for families with new babies. Aside from a few (sometimes spectacular) flops each time, it is so wonderful.

In my area we do it instead of gifts for stm+. Some people bring enough food for 3 meals, some bring barely enough for 1 meal. But I live in the middle of a desert so most of us have no family near by to help out.

I second soup and cut up veggies/dip.
I had an August baby first time around also, but soup was still great. 1) because I love soup and 2) It is easy to heat up as much as needed. Cut up veggies were a great snack, and I would never had taken the time to cut them up myself.

I love anything that I don't have to fix. Someone brought me a whole roast once and it was amazing. I ate on that for a week. Soups and casseroles are good. Bring all the sides too (a salad or veggies and rolls, etc).
Some moms don't like this but I do. I had a few people offer to hold/Rock/etc. the baby while I ate (or H and I ate). I loved actually being able to sit down and enjoy a meal, especially with my husband.

I had a friend do the basket thing as well! It was so nice to always have something close by when the baby inevitably feel asleep on me for an hour.

Ok so my friends and family officially suck. I've had two babies and a husband with a broken leg on bed rest for months at a time and not a single person brought me food that I didn't have to cook! Wth.

Be the change, redthestral13! Do you have any friends or family due before you?

I am the only one in my family or DHs that is having babies right now (everyone else is either done done or far too young) but I do have a couple friends that are due within the same month as me and we are planning on collaborating on some meal prep and freezer food!

I had a friend who kept making beef lasagnas. This was before we were trying to eat semi-kosher and separate meat from milk, so it was unbelievably delicious, hearty and lasted at least three days.
