I want to exclusively nurse but I am thinking the problem is a lip/tongue tie and we have no lactation consultants within a few hours drive from here. And I am not my midwife's patient any more

We do a nightly bottle of pumped milk (dh bonding time) but it's taken a long time to get there. He fought it every single night for close to 2 months. I'd HAVE to be in the room, sometimes singing to him and sometimes giving it to him which was a total pita and defeated the purpose imo. But he's been good lately, I feel like we're just coming out of it this past week knock on wood.

I'm still nursing 99% of the time. He'll take a bottle with little issue, but it's rare that I need to use one, it's mostly when we go somewhere public or with my dad (he leaves the room when I'm feeding even with a cover)

Yep, also not by choice. My mom seems to be the only person (of the 2 who have tried, ha) who can get him to, and that's a sometimes, and 2oz max. But she lives across the country so that is only useful when we see her every few months.

This is super encouraging to me!! We will keep trying! We've been so bad about doing it every day because it's so stressful but it's worth it. I'm glad he's coming around!

What does the pediatrician say?
We don't have a pediatrician. Just a family doctor. And since we are in an area with rarely any doctors it's months before you can get an appointment. If you need something you go to emerg. I am going to make an appointment at the health unit and see If they can refer me to a LC down south. Then when we visit family either this month of next we will go and get checked.
Is it true breastmilk loses it's laxative effect after so long? DS used to be a 6x a day pooper and it's gradually spread out to only going every other day lately. Last night we did his nightly bottle with frozen milk that was pumped back in April and he's already pooped 3 times today. Or could this be a sign my diet now is lacking something?

X is pooping less as well, most days. It's down to 1-2 a day instead of every diaper.
lilrubberduckie , have you looked into a la leche league in your area (or maybe in your closest major city)? They are volunteers, not LCs, but there is a wealth of knowledge there. If you found your local FB LLLI, maybe you could ask one of the leaders to Skype or FaceTime with you since you're so remote? I know it's not the same, but it might be a solution in the interim?

From what I've heard it's that breastfed babies tend to use up absolutely everything in the milk so there's nothing left really to poop. Ryan goes about once a week and it's normal. I don't know that it's a change in breastmilk so much as a change in their system. The fact that he pooped on frozen milk might just have been a coincidence

Pumped milk from April would be nutritionally different as our BM changes with their age/needs. It wouldn't surprise me to see an increase in poops. However, colostrum, which is acts as a laxative, is usually gone it of breastmilk by 6 weeks postpartum.

Anyone else's baby try to latch to any skin that touches near their mouth? He tries to latch my neck, shoulder, cheeks, and when I kiss him on the cheeks he'll turn and latch my lips!

L latches onto my shoulder when I pick her up lately. She sucks like crazy and I'm honestly surprised I don't have a baby hickey yet.

I literally was just wondering this! She goes crazy on my chin every day now. Weird but also cute

Ditto. Mouth is wide open on the shoulder leaving lovely drool marks when upright or on my upper arm if I hold him on his back in my arms. And if I kiss his cheek he'll turn toward me with an open mouth too but I always move before he gets me.

He latches my nose if I'm playing around his face, which is hilarious. Last night I was trying to get him back to sleep and he was sucking my neck. I had to check to see if I had a hickey this morning (I did not).

So I'm starting to think about weaning. I hate that I need to, but I'm trying to be realistic. I think most of you remember that I got promoted to principal when I first returned to work after mat leave. Over the summer, I have been able to work out pumping, but it has been very challenging since I'm needed constantly. Once school starts and kids and teachers return, there is just no way I can pump. My initial goal was 6 months, and I'm still hoping to get there, but be adding in more formula leading up.
Thinking of first dropping from two to one pump session at work first, then dropping my bedtime pump, then the final workday pump. I will phase out morning and leave the bedtime nursing session for the last to be weaned. I'm thinking a week or two for each change. Sound reasonable?

That's similar to what I did with dd1. I had a longer phase out planned but my supply dropped so fast I didn't need to worry about pumping at all after 3-5 days of pumping 2x a day. Even though I'm stressing again about continuing to pump it was soooo much better when I finally finished last time.
I know having uneven production in boobs is normal, but does anyone have REALLY uneven production already? With DS my left stopped producing totally, but not until maybe 18mos? It's already barely making anything. I'm pumping now (hi from the pumping room) and have gotten probably 7-8 from the right and 2 from the left Can I up it by pumping that side at home? Or nursing more? She obviously hates that side. Ugh. Poor left boob.

I have a very uneven production, too. First pump these days gets about 4oz from right and 2-2 1/2 from left. All other pumps get about 3oz from right 1oz (and sometimes not quite that much) from left. L was never good at nursing from the left no matter how much i tried, so I just gave up. I don't know if I always produced less there and that's why she hated it, or if there was some other reason and the lack of nursing there led to lesser production. I thought pumping might help, but it hasn't seemed to do much.

My LC talked about this at our Baby and I group as this happened to a mom there. She said it's really important to not let baby quit that side totally. Always nurse on that side first.
I guess if it were me, I'd feed baby on that side first, and then continue to pump that side while she's nursing the other side? That way it will signal it to make more. Or add in some extra pumping sessions on that side. Maybe throw in an extra morning session 1 hour after baby has nursed.
