Anyone having luck nursing in a carrier yet? I never really mastered it with DS, but it wasn't super important. This time it would be a life saver...
I managed to do it in the ring sling yesterday with DD. I lowered it down so she could get at the boob, and it was a little awkward, but serious points for effort on her part since she was just 4 days old ;-) I'm hoping it gets less awkward feeling, because it would definitely help me keep up with DS!

I've been nursing with a mei tai and a beco gemini since about 1 week in. I just loosen the straps to lower it and sort of shift her toward one side or the other. Check out this video around six minutes in if you want a visual of what I mean: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbSczHe7zQI
Thanks musicalsilver and kh59! I have a mei tai and a ring sling. I will try with both. Being able to be mobile while nursing with DS would be awesome. Tomorrow is my first solo day with both kids. Eek.
musicalsilver, how's the tandem thing going for you so far?
It's going really well! Since my milk came in DS has been eating quite a bit less, as he's spent lots of time nursing. So that's weird, but not unexpected I suppose.
We've also had a few issues with loose poops that've caught DS off guard. We are potty trained, but he's had a couple of slip ups when he couldn't run fast enough to the potty. Hopefully with colostrum getting out of my system things will get back to normal.
Tandem nursing melts my heart :-D
Things still going well for you? Has the novelty worn off for DD1 at all?
And as a complete aside, with heelibrarian weaning, I think we might be the last two J13ers nursing, funnily enough!

Glad it's going well for you so far! It took me awhile to put two and two together with why DD1 suddenly wouldn't eat more than a few bites of her dinner after my milk came in--we're a little more back to normal on that front now. I'm not so sure the novelty has worn off for her, but I've gone back to only nursing DD1 at nap time and bed time, which was (mostly) our routine before the baby. (As I got more pregnant and exhausted, I was more likely to let her nurse at other times just so we could sit down and be quiet...and then I shamelessly used her to deal with my engorgement until my supply regulated.) She still asks/whines sometimes when DD2 is nursing at other times of day, but she can usually be redirected somehow without any major sorrow. I'm trying to slowly move her in the direction of weaning by somewhere in the neighborhood of her next birthday, which I had always sort of hoped she would want to do on her own, but I'm now really doubting...I just think I'll get burnt out after I go back to work if I have to be the primary architect of two bedtimes every night once I get home, so I'd like to at least be moving away from that situation by this spring. I think it has been a nice connection to have with DD1 right now, though, and helped both of us adjust to our new bigger family.
I just pumped four ounces from each side after a normal 3 hours after nursing. Have I hit oversupply status? DS is 11 days old, and can't be eating any more than 3oz a time, right?
I'm kind of unsure of how to handle these boobs of mine.
I am going to lose my mind!! DD2 is going through her 2 week growth spurt and has been wanting to eat all day today and last night Its hard because I have a 21 month old I'm trying to take care of also. How are you stm+ moms doing it??

Remind me why you're pumping? And if it's been 3 hours, if baby is due to eat about then, 4oz seems normal. Maybe not from each boob, but could just be a lucky day. And I wouldn't say it's oversupply until it's consistent week to week.

I've been pumping around twice a day, so DH can share in the feeding duties and give me a little break.

Ah. Gotcha. My pedi and LC said not to pump for "help" until week 3 because you're still regulating and doing so earlier can lead to oversupply. So maybe you're on your way. Maybe it was just a one time thing. Oversupply = bad...

I feel like this is going to come out wrong but I'm new at this and just trying to learn. I've actually been trying to pump so others can help with feedings too. Why do you wait until 3 hours after your baby eats? Is there enough milk to still feed your baby after?
lazyreader dang. I know I pumped early on with DS1 and never had a problem, but maybe I should've held off... You're right though, I don't want to head down the oversupply path!
I'm sorry it's been so hard krl52014. (((Hugs))) I don't have any advice yet because DH is still here to help. Don't feel guilty to let the tv parent your toddler during this stretch!

Baby ate at 1pm, and I had extra milk from a previous pump in the fridge that DH fed him around 4:00. I pumped at the same time (4pm) to make up for the feeding.
If you don't have extra milk you'd probably have to use a different strategy.

You're doing just fine as long as you're not uncomfortable. Think about having a little extra and being able to get out once in awhile and not have to worry about whether you will have enough milk for lo while you're gone! My LO will be 2 wks tomorrow, I EP and I already have over 100oz frozen.. With my other two I did the same and donated over 1000oz thru the year that I pumped.

Okay how???please share your tips and tricks! I EP and I get an oz an hour and am getting caught up to quick every time she has a growth spurt! I was 24 oz ahead yesterday and today I'm only 15 D: I know that's still a few meals but t makes me nervous!

Not sure if there's any trick to it or rather just pure luck. I pump every 3hrs around the clock regardless of what I'm doing. I have an app with a timer on my phone that lets me know when it's time. I drink lots of water.
Hi a little late to the party... Having major issues with shallow latch. My nipples were already blood blistered 24 hours in. They look like lipstick tubes when I take him off. Lactation came by yesterday and pretty much just said keep trying to get him to open up but I can't go much longer in the current state. His ped said no tongue tie but thought his weak chin/possible overbite might be the problem.

Ouch, that sounds awful! My son had a tongue-tie we corrected, but he still has a small mouth and my nipples are giant compared to his mouth. I can only get his mouth open so far. He also has a bit of a weak chin and someone mentioned maybe a higher palet?
Hope it improves for you soon. Dont forget about nipple shields if needed.

Just commiserating with you. Mine are still in the process of healing, but: -motherlove nipple cream. Worth every penny. -good breast pads that won't stick when you try to take them off (if you're using washables) -air them out!! I bought the Amita BC that's what was in stock, but they're like little cups around your nipple w air pockets. My boobs are too big for them, so they look ridiculous but help if you're around the house.
Those of you who EP, what are your reasons? I'm trying to decide if that is something I want to do. I would love for others to be able to do feedings and for feedings to go quicker with bottles. Right now when I pump, I only get .5oz but I pump sometimes after she eats. Is it a pita to bring the pump everywhere?

I'll answer part of your question. I mostly pumped with DD1 when I went back to work (she was 13 weeks). I got used to taking the pump everywhere and it just becomes part of your routine. It was a pain to explain the noise all the time since I pumped in our locker room behind a curtain (PT clinic) but that was the only spot with an outlet.

Anyone's LO have a clear boob preference? L seems to have something against the left side which is causing us both frustration and me discomfort. Not sure what to do when she just will not take it. DH keeps telling me to pump that side but I'm nervous about pumping so soon.

Also I would recommend getting a car adapter for your pump so that you can pump in the car when you're out.

Yessss car adapter changed everything! I would pump on my commute to and from work. Just make sure you bring a cover to avoid stares.
