Electronic Contact with Birth Families: Seeking Advice

Hello all!

I am wondering if anyone has experience setting up a private blog or facebook page to share information with birth families? We adopted our little guy from birth through our local CAS. We would very much like to have a relationship with his birth mother, but unfortunately at this time she is not ready for this. I was thinking that if I were to set up a private blog or facebook page or something that she could access when she is able to, this might make it easier for opening the door for a relationship in the future. Currently we are sending photos and letters through the agency, but it requires multiple people/steps for them to get to his birth mom. My thought is that having it somehow electronically, she might be more willing/able to access it. Plus there would be less risk of her losing/misplacing photos and cards sent along. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or experience!

We set up a private blogspot for our son. Readers must be invited. We also put a tracker on the site so we know who is logging in. We log a lot of entries a month. In addition, we look forward to sharing it with our son when he is older.

We also have a private blog. We post weekly. The birthmother has the link and can access when works for her. we also plan to print it out for our daughter.
I also have a private Flickr album that I update on an ongoing basis. Again so that she can access when it suits.
We have a very open relationship ... I'm excited that we will see her and her Mom this weekend, 2nd time since birth, daughter is 4 months old. I know it's early days yet so we want to have all options available for the long term.

We have a similar situation. I set up a private email for DD and gave her birthmom the email address for if she ever wants to contact us back. We continue to send our updates through the agency. I like the idea of a private blog.

Nothing from personal experience but I know adoptive parents who have exchanged emails or set
up private pages and do the same thing mentioned in some of the posts above. One of my former foster parents make a photo book each year and either send the hard copy or an electronic version to bio parents each year.
