So, definitely ask around with your insurance. I was not offered MaterniT21 or Harmony but what was just termed "cell-free DNA test."
Anyway, LabCore is where my insurance (Blue Cross) dictates I should go but Quest (competitor) offers a deal to people with my insurance: they'll run an extra chromosomal test and not ask for more than your insurance is willing to pay. So, if my insurance is willing to pay $100 then Quest will accept that. Had I gone to LabCore, I would pay the difference between what my insurance pays and the actual cost.
I hope I explained that well. The morning was a jumble of info.
EDIT - The same technology is used in the cell-free DNA test. It's just what my office uses instead of the name brand tests. My point is much more what lab does the test results in different costs to me. It pays to ask!!
My "cell free DNA test" is the same technology as MaterniT and Harmony. It looks for all the trisomys in addition to sex chromosome anomalies nd some chromosome deletions. It's just what Penn uses instead of those name brand tests.
I also am 35 so I understand. Are you going to meet with a genetica counselor before the test? They're wonderful and put so much into perspective. I have very little worry now after this morning!
EDIT - I'm not doing NT. The cell free tests are much more powerful and definitive (but not diagnostic - only amnio or CVS are.)
joy, I'm not quite 35, but I will be this year. I doubt I will meet with a genetic counselor because I don't think they will cover that and I'm okay with not doing the NT scan if they will in fact cover the cell-free test. I swear I miss my first pregnancy when I was blissfully ignorant of all that could go wrong and just enjoyed it.
Oh, that's too bad! I was required an hour meeting with the counselor before the test. It was really informative and calming - the risks of abnormalities are sooooo much less than I ever thought.
I didn't even think to check with my new insurance company and I work in insurance. I'm over 35 and will be shocked if they give me any trouble. I figure we will hit the 3k deductible at some point this year, at least this way we are spreading out the payments.
We are doing the Verifi test by Progenity. They will bill insurance and if not covered in full, will write down whatever the balance is to us to $99. So worst case we are out $99, but from my discussion with the insurance company there's a fair chance be 100% covered.

My insurance won't cover ours (same test), but we were told it would be 99$ anyway and to call and complain if we get a bigger bill.

I was referred to a genetic counselor to do genetic screening test because I used donor embryos and only some of the tests work with donor pregnancies. The GC did the Harmony test. They are submitting it to my insurance, but I doubt they will cover it since I don't have any risk factors (I am only 33 and my donor was 30 when the embryos were created). Their financial policy is that if you haven't met your deductible they can charge you up to $795. If you have met your deductible, they financial safeguard price is $130.
