How long do you guys wait to call pedi if your toddler is puking?
Back story is DS has a respiratory infection. He's on multiple breathing treatments, antibiotics. No fever in 24 hrs. But he's been puking once a day since Wednesday. He's acting totally normal, eating very bland food, drinking water and nursing fine. Pedi is aware he's throwing up (was there on Friday).
I'm inclined to say it's flemmy puke from mucous coming up because of breathing treatments. DH is sort of an alarmist and thinks I should call pedi's messaging service.
If it's only once a day, and you know for sure that it's a respiratory infection (obviously since you just saw the doctor) I wouldn't call. Excess phlegm + a lot of coughing = puking in most kids. I would just try to feed him a little less at a time but more frequently. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about the puking unless the other symptoms resolve, but the throwing up doesn't. I usually go by how DD is acting. If she seems fine, I don't worry too much unless symptoms are extreme.
TheTuna15 thanks. This is exactly how I handle the situation. DH is a little more unsure of things and tends to second guess a lot.
I'm going to the store for some pedialite pops to ease his mind a bit, but I'm not worried. DS's breathing is so so much better, and that's the part I was freaking out over during the week.

I'd probably wait if your mom instinct isn't freaking out, especially if you've been to the doctor for this illness already. I hope your kiddo feels all better soon.

I don't have a toddler but deal with respiratory infections a lot and throw up phlegm often. It is a good sign, because that means the mucus is draining, but our tummies don't particulary like to digest mucus, so it comes up and out. My best defense for this is drinking lots of water and avoiding dairy/milk as that can thicken secretions even more.

I am going to agree with the above (waiting it out, cutting out dairy). I currently am getting over a cold that turned into a phlegm filled cough, and each time I start coughing, I gag because of the gunk coming up. So I could see how easily it would be to puke. And every time I eat any dairy (or even have a little creamer in my coffee), it makes it worse.
