s/o: How did you or do you plan to announce your happy news?

For those of you who already told your family/friends, did you do anything special or did you just come out and say it?

For those who haven't announced yet, do you have a plan in mind for how you want to do it?

I have a vinyl cutting machine so I made myself a "Mama Bear" shirt and made a "Baby Bear" onesie that I've just been showing people to tell them the news. I actually had the shirt on when DH came home the day of the BFP to tell him and I have a picture of the two shirts with the test that I've been sending to the other people when we tell them. DH wants a "Daddy Bear" shirt and I'm going to make a "Sister Bear" shirt for my stepdaughter that we'll probably all have on for our facebook announcement. That's the plan right now anyways.

With DD1, I had found a poem online to put in a picture frame that basically said that in a few months there would be a baby to replace the poem. My parents had invited us all over, including my grandparents, for dinner, so after dinner I gave my mom the frame. She started to cry and passed it to my dad, who didn't quite get it at first. LOL

With DD2, we got DD1 a t-shirt that said Big Sister with her name on it, and stopped by my parents' house. It didn't take too long before my mom noticed the shirt.

With this one, my family and most of my friends are going to be in total shock. We have always said we were done having our own kids (in fact, I was supposed to have tubal ligation during my 2nd c-section and my (now former) OB forgot to do it!), and went through almost 2 years of DCF licensing nonsense in order to foster-to-adopt. So, everyone knows our plans to foster-to-adopt. Right now I'm already thinking I know how and when we'll tell my family. Two of my nephews have birthdays in April and my parents always have birthday dinners at their house. So, I'm thinking I'll stand up at some point when everyone's at the dinner table and tell say something like, "I just wanted to let you all know that our plans to foster-to-adopt have changed and we are no longer going to pursue that." I'm sure someone will ask why and I'll respond, "Because we have our own baby due to arrive in early October."
I may look for a cute t-shirt to wear under a hoodie or something and reveal that at the same time. I wish I could video tape it because my kids are going to flip out and everyone's going to be in shock.

I ordered custom M&Ms that have baby sayings on them. We are going to have them out when my parents come visit later this month. We are mailing some to my ILs for valentine's day. Our plan is to mail them and either have my SIL video it or just wait for them to call us.

I am making a slideshow of photos from my DS' first year to play at his birthday. At the end, there will be a picture of him in a shirt that says "promoted to big brother Oct 2016".

To tell MH, I just called him at work and told him haha nothing fancy! I did the same thing when I found out about my son!

Because DH and I had been trying for almost a year and were working with a RE, I was shocked when we got our BFP and basically just shoved the HPT at him! I bought a Big Brother shirt that I planned on having DS unwrap at his birthday party to tell the grandparents but the zika nonsense killed that plan.

I'll probably do a facebook announcement for everyone else if things still look good in a few months.

With DS we bought onesies from Old Navy that all said "I love my (insert relation here).


For 2.0, we bought DS big brother shirts. We plan on telling the parents this weekend.

DH bugged me to test, so he knew as soon as I knew, and then had to be convinced, meaning I had to go out and get a digital test and show him the positive. His face lit up and he twirled me about.

I really want to surprise my parents. Some of you may know that DH & I were originally planning on adopting from the onset of making a faily, so my parents are still under the impression we're bringing a toddler home sometime this fall. So the surprise will be super doubled. I know they'll be excited though - my mom was just saying she was starting to feel a little sad that there are no newborns in the family to hold and love on.

I think we'll start with sitting them down and sadly telling them we won't be adopting this year. It'll crush them for the moment - then we'll have to think of some fun gimmick to spring on them after.


The question is whether my mom is a screamer or a crier when she finds out the news. I'm tempted to video tape whatever we do and share it here with you all.

With H I tested in the morning and he was already gone to work. Went out and got a Big Sister book. When I got home with DD I had her bring him the book and ask to read it. She pretty much threw it at him. He had to flip it over to see what it was.

For our big family announcement were going to take a picture to send around. H and I both ride motorcycles. We have 3 along with one of those little pocket bikes. We'll line them up and sit on the 3 big bikes with DD and add some sort of caption "were adding a member to our biker gang..."

My method was very underwhelming i was going for a sushi night with some friends and wanted to know if I could eat and drink what I wanted. I took a test before I left (though it was only 9dpo) and I saw suuuuuch a squinter. Ridiculously faint! So I stuck it under DHs nose who said I was insane. So I had a beer and ate ALL the sushi. oops Next day, same squinter. Then the day after the line finally got dark enough to be seen by other people's eyes. I still have the test and I still see the line.

My mom was there visiting during this saga so she knew from the beginning too. DH told his parents last night in a very underwhelming fashion. I'll have to come up with a super cute FB announcement to make up for all this half-arsed btw stuff

I was convinced that I had evaps on literally five different brands of tests, and my H was like "yeah babe, I don't think that's possible" (for all 5 to be false positives). That night I dreamt I was having twins, and the next day it was a very well defined two lines.

I probably won't do any kind of big (or small) announcement. I don't like the attention and I'd prefer people just be surprised to find out

We just came out and told people. H tried to be cute when we told my sister and BIL. Everything he tried to say just went over their heads. I finally came out and translated for them.

As far as announcing goes, I'm not sure. My birthday is around the time I'll be out of first tri and DD's birthday is around the time of the anatomy scan so depending on if I'm showing, we could announce then. I'd like to do it in person with our families and I know everyone will be there for DD's party. My SIL is due at the end of the month with her first and I really want her to have her time in the limelight. So we'll see.

This is why we didn't tell SIL when we told DHs parents last time. It was the weekend of her baby shower so we wanted her to have that time. We told her a little after that.

We never announced on Facebook last time, and I highly doubt we will this time. I'm not a huge FB poster anyway.

We haven't gone outside the very close friends and family as far as sharing goes but the ones we've told we just came out and told. However, I told my husband by waking him up at 7:45 and shoving the pee sticks in his face. I got a "That's nice". I found out later that it didn't even register with him until he was in the shower then he came downstairs and asked me if I told him I was pregnant or if he made that up.

We did IVF and our entire cycle was publicized so we didn't do anything special other than say it worked. We did an announcement when we found out it was twins and that is in my signature.

I woke up at five yesterday morning and couldn't get back to sleep. I didn't really feel pregnant but the thought kept gnawing at me, so I took a test and sure enough, two lines! I let dh sleep a couple more hours, then while he was in the shower I got out our WTE book and baby names book and put them on the bed with the test on top. I put his clothes on top of the books so he saw them as he was getting dressed.

We haven't decided when to tell our families. Neither is particularly graced with any amount of tact, and I'm not ready for the stupid comments and incessant texting yet.

I tested while H was at work last Wednesday and ended up telling him over the phone because he guessed it.

We told his grandma first because she's been in a nursing home recovering from a broken ankle and we knew it would brighten up her day. We had DD give his grandma a book to read with the title "I'm a Big Sister". She read the title and started to read the first page before flipping back to the cover to read it again and look at DD. She was so happy. We did the same thing to H's mom and dad (separately, H's mom texted his dad to come over), H's brother's family, and H's Aunt. I called my mom and dad to tell them.

We probably won't announce on FB until my first u/s just because this thyroid component is new to us. I plan to put the u/s pic in DD's Easter basket and say something like "the Easter Bunny brought DD a baby for Easter".

Backstory:
We make our own Christmas stockings using felt/sequin kits. We used our own to announce our first pregnancy by putting “Mom” and “Dad” for the names and showing our family the finished product.

We made DS and DD stockings in time for their first Christmas. Each time we started them at Thanksgiving so there was a mad scramble to finish them by Christmas.

Announcement:
I bought a kit for Baby 3.0 months ago as a way to announce our pregnancy to DH if the due date was before Christmas. I gave him the kit Saturday morning saying “We better get started so we finish by Christmas!” He knew exactly what it meant and hugged me.

I was excited to wrap our stocking tradition into my announcement to him. For family we’ll probably just do a “big sister” shirt. We never announce on Facebook.

I am thinking of having my daughter and my son holding a sign that says "Girls: 1 ||||| Boys:1 ||||| Tiebreaker coming October 2016 (totally stolen from Pinterest).

Since we went to the Czech Republic for donor egg pretty much everyone knew. So DH was with me when we tested and we jumped up and down laughing and screaming when it came out positive. For our immediate families we called them all the day after we found out. Most people at work know just because they asked if the trip was a success. We were pretty transparent on Facebook about our infertility so once I have a good ultrasound we will announce on Facebook. Nothing romantic this time around. 4th pregnancy and first hopefully baby and the announcing has gotten old.

Oh and to tell my husband....we have a little table in our entryway that has 2 framed pictures of our 2 kids. I put a third frame up with a little note in it that said "Surprise! #3 arriving in October"

We aren't remotely near any family so our news will have to be shared via Skype. We were thinking about telling them we had some new "accomplishments" in our house and that our son created his first finger paint artwork that we wanted to show them. I have this little wall hanging that has a couple clips to hold papers. I want to show them 2 artwork pictures and then slowly pan to the ultrasound pic that will be clipped next to the artwork and then be like, "Oh! Oh my! What is THIS?" I hate that we won't be able to tell them in person so we wanted to make it fun and special for them somehow

For my husband I simply asked him how much it was going to cost to get new flooring in the spare room..he knew what I meant because the plan was that we'd wait until baby#2.

It was both our moms birthdays the day I tested and found out so I just sent them a picture of the test like SURPRISE!! Happy birthday!!!

Otherwise we aren't making a huge announcement until later on because last time I waited to make an announcement and got to like 11wks and found out we lost the baby a few days later. I do NOT want to go through that again.
