The hard stuff.... - how all consuming breastfeeding is, it dictates how long I can be away from DS, what I wear, what I eat, everything. I was prepared for supply issues, mastitis, plugged ducts but not that - how physical parenting is the sore arms from nap jail, aching back from lugging around DS plus stuff, the scratching and hair pulling - how easily the mom guilt can happen. Want to buy a new outfit? Better feel guilty about spending money on yourself instead of baby and guilty about spending time away from baby
The awesome stuff.... - how connected I would feel to other Mons, I feel like I joined a special club - how easy it is to love them unconditionally - how confident it has made me. This came with time after DD but as they get a little older and you see the fruits of your labor, its wonderful to see the choices you made have positive outcomes. I know my kids, I know whats best for them ( most of the time ) and thats a nice feeling

I'm surprised at how many people are giving me advice based on the fact that my third is a boy. This includes things like, "boys are so much more cuddly, he will want to be held all the time" and, "well he's a boy, they are always much hungrier" to "he's a boy, he will really like jumping more than the girls did" (talking about the jumperoo) Umm...what? While I'm sure there are some gender based differences I will experience in time, I think personality is key. I have really noticed the gender stereotyping comments recently and it drives me nuts! While some things were the same with all three kids, some things were different. I think if they taught me anything, it's that you can only prepare so much in your head. Birth plans change, babies aren't able to nurse or gain weight, some gain too much, it goes on and on. No two experiences are the same and I'm just going to try and roll with it.
Oh also as a mom of a boy why did no one tell my how fascinating baby boys find their ummm "equipment"?? And also how hard they grab it?? It looks like it would hurt but he seems to enjoy it lol!
H took a bath with L a couple of weeks ago and she was fascinated by his, er, unusual bath toy. She grabbed so hard that it did hurt!
