Ive been obsessed with my registry its been harder for me than I thought Your opinion.. Im going to try and BF. but if I'm unsuccessful I need a backup plan! (using Medela products for BFing) I'm going with the Playtex drop-ins for FF.. Anyone have a strong opinion for or against Playtex Drop-ins?
..Side note, did anyone put BreastPads on their registry and other breastfeeding accessories? I felt weird about it but i did it anyways...
I put the breast pads on there. It's just a bunch of women that are going to be doing the shopping so to me it's not a big deal.
I can't decide which sling/carrier I want. I know I want a soft fabric one, but can't decide which. I wrote down all the ones y'all have mentioned. Has anyone used a Seven Slings one?
I don't know which breast pump I want. I don't plan on pumping a lot, so I don't think I want an expensive one but still can't decide which one.
We are going to have the baby sleep in our room for a while and I can't decide if I want the travel size PNP or the regular PNP. I know I want a PNP but can't decide which would be best. We do travel a few times a year to visit my parents, so I need something I can take with. But how long will the travel PNP last?
Can't decide on the swing either. I can't justify the price of the mamaroo but I still want it. Other ones I've seen are just "meh".
I didn't have much choice with DD because I was young and money was tight, so now with all these options I don't know what to choose.
I'm no help with the carrier, I can't make up my mind either.
Does your insurance cover a pump? I'm getting the Medela PISA again, it's a great pump.
I would probably get the regular size PNP, that way you'll get a longer use out of it. I can't imagine the cost or the amount of space they take up when traveling being too different.
I love our Fisher Price Snugabunny swing. Regardless of what you pick, make sure it can plug in or you will go through batteries so fast. But I found the Snugabunny to be a lifesaver for us.
FWIW... For newborn sleeping, I purchased an Arms Reach Co-sleeper I'm pretty excited to try out.
And on the monitor question... I used the Angel Care and really liked it. But like you said, I only used the sensor part in the crib. I didn't use it when he was in our room those first couple months.
My issue is the pump... I used a Madela PIS last time. I really liked it but could never pump enough for DS. I know I produced enough because I always had extra when he nursed, but when I pumped at work there was never enough. Now that insurance covers pumps I don't know what to get. I'm considering going the rental option since those are better pumps but I don't know. I need to do some research.
For DS, my insurance at the time only covered rentals and so I rented the Medela Symphony from my hospital. It was huge and bulky so I just left it at work during the week and took it home on the weekends. But it was awesome. I pumped a lot with it. I had to switch to my husband's insurance though because my job ended halfway through and I didn't realize that his insurance company didn't cover rentals from hospitals so I ended up having to pay out of pocket for a couple of months. I was so mad but anyway, I borrowed a friend's Medela PIS that she didn't use for her pregnancy and it just was pitiful compared to the Symphony (granted, I was producing less anyway since DS had moved to solids by that point in time). Long story short, if insurance covers rentals and you don't mind a big bulky pump, go for the hospital grade one.
I would register for nursing supplies, at least for a discount. FWIW I got tired of the disposable pads and the cotton ones just weren't enough for my supply. I ended up buying the Lana care wool nursing pads, they were awesome, I'm fairly certain you have to order online though. I got mine from Amazon last time. I used them for 6+ months with DD1 and they're still in great shape for this go around.
Also, I'm glad there were suggestions on carriers. I liked my Moby last time, but want something more practical this time since I think I'll be using it more often!

I didn't, but only because I think my colleagues will look at it. I'll put them on at the end on Amazon registry and then order right away for the discount.
brittneysandra I registered for everything, including breast pads! I only have one registry, on Amazon, and I look at it as more of a list of things I need to get vs things that I think people will want to buy.
jacks2008 I didn't know they made wool breast pads. I just went to my registry and added a bunch of Bamboobies to it. My sister had the disposable ones, and I swear her whole house smelled like sour milk! I just can't handle the thought of my house smelling like diaper, breast milk, or anything gross! What did you wash yours with? I'm CDing, but not sure if washing them with dirty dipes would be ok...mentally it seems wrong.
I can't decide whether or not to get a baby monitor or an iPod and use the baby monitor app. Or a sids monitor. My thought with the iPod is that I can take it with me and have baby things downloaded on the iPod only for car rides or trips to the store when he or she is older. Side eye me if you must, but if it keeps them from screaming the entire time I'm in the store, them I'm going to do it. Then the sids monitor seems like it would freak me the heck out if it gave me false alarms. And I don't know which is better, the diaper or under the bed...ughhhh
Thank you to @lalalady54 and mpiemont for your comments on the Beco! I'm overwhelmed with researching carriers and wraps and whatnot, this thread has been a help. One question, did you find that your boobs got in the way of the ssc? Maybe that's a dumb question but a friend told me my boobs would be so big and sore that I wouldn't want to use one. I know everyone is different, and I can't imagine this is an issue for ALL mothers since obviously people wear babies that are a few months old, just wondering if it's really as much of an issue as she made it out to be.
I ave big boobs (like E cup after a baby when I am nursing) and I just put the chest clip right above the boob area and had no problem. I used the Moby in the immediate newborn stage and thats just like wearing a sweatshirt- no pressure really on the boobs.

Even though I measured myself perfectly my seven slings one is way too small. And of course I bought their "size insurance" but they won't take it back unless it is folded perfectly in the original packaging, that ripped when I opened it. It's a scam/rip off!
cbrandt1 I hand washed mine in the sink with lanolin soap and then let them air dry. Mine came with directions for washing, but they don't have to be washed super frequently as long as you let them air dry, either at night or have alternating pairs. The wool and lanolin are antimicrobial. Switching to the wool kept everything drier and helped prevent issues as well.

Ok, I'll go switch them to the wool ones instead. The bamboo had higher ratings but you're probably right that wool is better!

That's what I was worried about. I have a code that gets me one free and I just pay S/H, so I was going to get one anyway. But I was worried this was the case (and why it's free).
Yeah I had that code too, s&h cost me $15!!! And the "size insurance" was another $3-$4 I think.
I am undecided on the Medela Freestyle pump vs the Pump in Style. I want the one with the most power. DH thinks I need the Freestyle to move around with the toddler but I don't see myself casually cooking in the kitchen while milk is spewing into bottles attached to my chest. I am not really that much of a Supermom.
I have a freestyle. I found it the most useful when I pumped while driving ( you may be able to that with a pisa too, not sure). Weird, I know, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. My output was fine. I think more than likely it won't matter much between the two.
I'm thinking of going the bassinet route and considering the Halo too. I just can't decide if I want to spend that much of something that won't be used for long. Have you found any other bassinets you liked so far?
I really really really really want the Halo. I might justify the price by a plan to sell it after we're done using it. You only use it for a short time but, it's a really important, difficult, otherwise exhausting period of time. If a couple hundred dollars makes a big improvement on an aspect of my life that is monopolizing 90% of my time, it kind of seems worth it.
Hmm thanks for the food for thought. This is our first LO, so maybe I can justify the cost to DH by reminding him we would be using it 2 -3xs...

AND PLUS ALSO, I just found out that they put out a new CHEAPER version without all the buttons that I probably wouldn't use anyways. It's officially on my list.

Yeah that's what was holding me back from ordering it right away, it was still like $17 even with the "free" code. I'm just going to skip it though since you weren't impressed, I was already iffy and I trust your judgment.
I saw a lot of seven slings in the Once Upon a Child close me for like 7 or 8 bucks bucks. I was thinking about trying one out there to figure out sizing and order, or just buy there. I'm still not sure I understand how they work though- I was picturing a ring sling not a tube of fabric.

Sweet! I'll gladly play less and skip the nature and womb sounds
I bought a RNP a while ago through a Black Friday deal, thinking I'd use that for a newborn sleeper in our room at night until LO moves to the crib. However, I have since read that newborns should be sleeping on a flat surface, and am now wondering if I should also buy a bassinet. Or a pack and play.
I've also been looking at the Moby wrap or K'tan wrap, but am worried that I'm going to have a rough time figuring them out.
Exchange it for a Graco Little Lounger! It works like a RNP and is about the same size, but it reclines flat. We have one and will be using it in our room.
I'm torn on a humidifier. Is it a necessity? We have a swamp cooler and I'm just wondering if it is something that I should put on my registry now because we will most likely need it, or if it is one of those things that is a "you may need it depending on baby" thing?
I can't say whether it's a necessity for you personally (or will be). But in my house it absolutely is! My boys have allergies and this helps out a lot. Also when sick it helps with breathing and so on. I would say get one cause you never know.

I have no idea what a swamp cooler is, but the humidifier has been necessary for us. For example, right now it's so dry in our apartment that my DD has been waking up with cracked, bloody lips despite lubing them up with chapstick at night. The humidifier has helped immensely in that department. They're also nice for then LO has a cold or a cough, because there is so little you can do for them when they're that young to help those symptoms.
ETA - if anyone else finds themselves in the situation where you have a mouth breather with cracked lips, the humidifier and lathering on Aquaphor at night has helped a ton
I am undecided on a double stroller. Should I even get one? Should I get a sit & stand? Should I get new or used? Which ones fit in my car? I don't think I'll ever decide!
This is me too. And this is my second kid so I'm not registering or having a shower or whatever so I'm trying to find an economical way to do it. We have the Britax infant seat, and ideally I would love the Britax double stroller that the infant seat clicks in to but it's SUPER expensive. The sit and stand will accept the Britax seat as well (with an adapter), but I don't think I'd like the front and back double strollers. (In the long run, I think I'd rather have one where they sit side by side.
UGH, I'm like you smile55k, I don't think I'll ever decide. I'm thinking about just wearing the baby and putting my daughter in the stroller until he can sit up, and then purchasing a used side by side double stroller. We'll see!

When I registered for my daughter I absolutely put that stuff on my registry! Don't feel weird--it's all stuff you'll need and if nothing else you can use the completion coupon and save a little money!

@jerica14 I definitely agree with @ajzmommy--get the humidifier! Heck, I've even stolen it out of my daughter's room when I was sick. They make Vick's brand ones that you can put Vick's tabs in that emit a eucalyptus scent in the air that is really great at clearing sinus/cold issues without having to take medicine (or give medicine to baby!) We love ours!

I've decided just to wing it. I plan to just wear the baby and DD can use the stroller when needed. As they get older, we do have one of those bike trailer things that doubles as a stroller, but we obviously couldn't use that until probably next summer. If needed, I'll just get one used on Craigslist if I find myself really wanting one.
Our dilemma? To go the double jogger route or not. We have an older (about to fall apart) single and DH and I ran a ton with DS up until this last summer when he grew less tolerant of sitting in it more or less. We definitely want to get back to running once DD arrives and are battling the cost, whether or not DS will still fight riding along, and if we can find one out there that accommodates both DS and a bucket at the same time.
We're considering a chariot or some other bike-pull-behind model that can be converted to a jogger without too much headache.....but the nicer ones are not cheap so it's more of an investment than a purchase.....

My dilemma involves double strollers... The Valco Spark Duo or the Bumbleride Indie Twin?? I am leaning towards the Valco but I don't know anyone nearby who owns one nor is it possible to see a floor model at any local stores. They are basically only drop shipped because the brand isn't very popular in the states. I have a friend who owns a different Valco duo version but she lives 4 hours away - bah! I just really want to see/maneuver/touch the thing IRL first before purchasing.
I have a Valco (albeit single) and a Bumbleride Indie Twin. I tried out both the Valco and Bumbleride singles and doubles and my 2 cents is the Valco is superior for a single stroller but the Bumbleride is by far the best double.
I'm now getting rid of my Valco because I have the Bumbleride. I'm sad about it, but the Bumbleride is so fucking awesome I would have another baby just to keep using it. (that's a lie, but I do love it)
ETA: We got the Bumbleride off of Craigslist for $50. If anyone is looking to get a more expensive stroller and but is iffy on spending the money, Craigslist!! Granted $50 was kind of an anomaly for an $800 stroller (moving sale), but I've seen a lot on there for $200 or so.

Breast pump, still totally undecided between the Medela or the Hygeia. And a carrier, I used one a ton with my DD when she was a baby but thats because I hated her stroller. Now that I have one I love, Im just not sure I will use it enough to justify even buying a carrier used.
All of this reminds me that, I have not decided on a pump. A part of me just says get whatever Medela then get reimbursed or use the number to get the one from my insurance.

Yeah that's what I was thinking....Craigslist or my area has a lot of yard sale boards on facebook that always have cheap double strollers. I definitely wouldn't buy one new--those things are crazy expensive!!
What did your DH say about the Britax system? This is the one I'm considering, we're gonna go to BBB this weekend to check it out (I've only searched the online reviews).
He didn't like the way the carrier connected to the stroller on the sides. He didn't think it seemed as secure as the strollers that have a tray or bar that the carrier fits/clicks onto. Let me know what you think of it when you go look!
We picked up the new Britax B-Safe 35 seat last weekend, I didnt get the stroller tho because I personally dont like the 3 wheel look. The car seat is very nice and in comparison felt much lighter than the Chicco I had originally planned to get.
I need a new infant seat. My first two used a Chicco KeyFit 30 but it was bulky. Since I'm doing three across for a little while, I need something narrow and I can't decide if I want to Britax B-Safe or not.
