Just barely squeezing this in for Monday this week. Sorry to those who had to post in last week's checkin because this was late. Welcome everyone! Here are this week's questions:
1. Brief intro/re-intro of yourself and the foods you are avoiding for LO. Feel free to share other details about reactions etc if you want.
2. Have you been able to add any new foods back into your diet? How has this worked?
3. How have LO's allergies and/or intolerances impacted your plans or decision to continue BF?
4. Any new foods you have discovered or foods that you love this week? Or do you have any new recipes to share?
5. What food do you miss the most? How do you satisfy the craving?
1. Brief intro/re-intro of yourself and the foods you are avoiding for LO. Feel free to share other details about reactions etc if you want. My son is 12.5mos old with allergies to milk, egg, peanut, and tree nuts. He had awful reflux and green mucusy stools as an infant, plus 3 mos of hives before we confirmed the allergies.
2. Have you been able to add any new foods back into your diet? How has this worked? I have successfully added baked eggs back into my diet. The allergist is not okay with anything else. Before we did the allergy testing I had cut out a ton more, and I have been able to add those back (soy, wheat, fish, shellfish, beans, oats, corn, coconut, tomato, sesame).
3. How have LO's allergies and/or intolerances impacted your plans or decision to continue BF? I'm using DS's allergies as an excuse for extended BF, but honestly I would do it anyway! I do choose to keep pumping so I can keep him on BM instead of soy milk which is less nutritious.
4. Any new foods you have discovered or foods that you love this week? Or do you have any new recipes to share? I make granola for MH every 2 wks. It has nuts in it, and he is so resistant to change that he won't let me sub them out for seeds. Finally I decided to make my own, and it was incredible! I am snacking on it all the time now!
5. What food do you miss the most? How do you satisfy the craving? Cheese. And yogurt. I have been eating microwave popcorn with nutritional yeast to help with the cheese craving. It's rich and salty in a similar way. For yogurt I am eating co yo coconut yogurt once in a while, but I can't justify the price or fat content for regular use.
1. Brief intro/re-intro of yourself and the foods you are avoiding for LO. Feel free to share other details about reactions etc if you want. ~Foods avoiding, milk x 5 months, soy x1 month. Now avoiding rice and oats after several reactions this last week.
2. Have you been able to add any new foods back into your diet? How has this worked? ~ did an elimination diet and skin got better for a short while then worse before adding food in. Then tried oats & rice and baby's face broke out within 30 min, followed by bad diarrhea x2 days and a fever the night after exposure. Allergist appt next week.
3. How have LO's allergies and/or intolerances impacted your plans or decision to continue BF? ~ has made bfing more important to me since he more than likely will have limited milk options in the future beyond 12 months.
4. Any new foods you have discovered or foods that you love this week? Or do you have any new recipes to share? ~ nothing this week. I added wheat back into my diet last night and his skin seems ok this morning so we'll see how this goes. Wheat fee and rice free is a really hard combo which is why I'm testing wheat now rather than later as originally planned.
5. What food do you miss the most? How do you satisfy the craving? cheese and crackers. I haven't found anything to sub for cheese. Daiya cheese is nasty.
1. Brief intro/re-intro of yourself and the foods you are avoiding for LO. Feel free to share other details about reactions etc if you want. my 35mo daughter (still bf) is sensitive to cow's milk, gets large eczema patches when i have milk..my 15 mo son was sensitive to soy (gastrointestinal), but that *might* be over, and egg (eczema), which might also be over too.
i also pump for a formerly MSPI, now just MPI baby..
2. Have you been able to add any new foods back into your diet? How has this worked?
i've been having soy for about 2 months now..my son started out having small little hives on his bum during #2's, after i started, but i couldn't stop myself and kept at the soy..they are not there anymore. i started egg again about a week ago, no big change in skin...but have also started hydro cortisone on his skin..i've been sneaking in little bits of cheese to find my "limit".
3. How have LO's allergies and/or intolerances impacted your plans or decision to continue BF? i'm afraid to give my kids cow's milk or soy milk, so now i'm breastfeedfing for life.
4. Any new foods you have discovered or foods that you love this week? Or do you have any new recipes to share? i just want to make sure the mommas that are sensitive to soy have heard about coconut aminos. it's not a replacement for soysauce, but it's close.
5. What food do you miss the most? How do you satisfy the craving? clam chowder!!!!! a friend of mine made me clam chowder with cashew cream, and it was amazing. it's been over a year, but i haven't found the time to make it myself yet (requires soaking cashews for 24 hours)...lazy.
5. What food do you miss the most? How do you satisfy the craving?
I miss real pizza so much!! I found an Amy's pizza that I can have but it's nowhere close to being like pizza. One day...
i have been eating cheese-free pizza for almost 3 years now! it's not bad, and does the trick--you might need to find a place that does GF crust, too..but the sauce and the toppings are enough to trick me. if that doesn't work for you, you can melt some cheese alternatives on there?
5. What food do you miss the most? How do you satisfy the craving? cheese and crackers. I haven't found anything to sub for cheese. Daiya cheese is nasty.
daiya cheese melted doesn't taste as bad. i definitely would not eat it plain with crackers...i used shredded daiya cheese and baked it as a cheese crisp for toppings to my salads and soups, and it's really good! disguised in sandwiches, i've used it, too..but i try not to as it's $$.

Have you tried their cream cheese? I'm tempted to try it.... its pricey but I miss bagels and cream cheese.

no, i've never seen it! where did you find it? man. now i want some cream cheese...i can't think of any good alternatives, either...

I found it at a small local health food store. I would think Whole Foods or something like that would have it.
i have spent hours staring at the alternative cheese section at my local WF...i haven't seen it, but it's been a few months since i've stared intently. i will have to check again.

Oddly enough I found it with the other cream cheese products and not with the alternative cheese stuff at my store. This wasn't WF though. Maybe they organize differently.

They sell it at Sprouts as well as Safeway near me. I don't like it but then again I haven't found any non-dairy cheese I like.
1. Brief intro/re-intro of yourself and the foods you are avoiding for LO. Feel free to share other details about reactions etc if you want. Hi I have a 18 month DD who can't have dairy.
2. Have you been able to add any new foods back into your diet? How has this worked? We added soy, beef, and eggs back into my diet. It wasn't until after she was over 1 year.
3. How have LO's allergies and/or intolerances impacted your plans or decision to continue BF? I will continue to BF until she wants to stop. I was planning earlier but she only drinks BM and water. I am a strong proponet for BF so I knew I would continue and just change my diet. I know a couple of people who quit because they didn't want to cut out foods.
4. Any new foods you have discovered or foods that you love this week? Or do you have any new recipes to share? We made a dairy free chicken pot pie that was pretty good. It didn't even have almond milk in it.
5. What food do you miss the most? How do you satisfy the craving? fudge. I haven't been able to satisfy it. Oh, and chreme brûlée. It's really a tie between those two.
