After I had DS 2 years ago I was given Colace stool softener in the hospital. This time I was given Senokot. I was unfamiliar with it and asked if it was a stool softener, and told yes.
Well, at 2 am today I find out it's a laxative when I have to run to the bathroom with explosive watery diarrhea and cramps. I have had terrible gas for a day as well, but figured it was due to the veggies I had been eating to try to prevent constipation. When I looked Senokot up online and got the real info - stimulating laxative is NOT the same as stool softener.
I had noticed DD has had really loose poops too, so now I feel terrible that she got some in her system from nursing.
So, bottom line (hehe) make sure you know what meds you are taking, and I would recommend against laxative.
Thank god for immodium. It helps, but I'm still having issues, just less frequently. The Dr thinks I may have a stomach bug, and offered i could stay another night. But i think I might just want to go home and deal with this there.
Unfortunately, little Fiona's tummy is making rumbly noises. So I'm afraid she might have it too. Ugh.
Sorry to be a downer. otherwise we both seem to be doing well recovering from the birth.
I totally know how you feel. I suffer from IBS D so there were so many painful nights in the bathroom. If the pain is too much ask your doc about Bentyl. It relaxes the colon so it's not painful.
