I'll just say this. The Black Panther Party IS NOT the same thing as The New Black Panther Party, not even close, not a successor, unrelated, the latter being denounced as a hate group by the former. The BPP was a revolutionary group organized and operated to uplift black people, not to hate and destroy white people. They were pro-Civil Rights. It does not compare to the KKK, the anti-civil rights terrorist organization who seek to suppress all those they oppose, pretty much any non-white non-protestant non-straight human, and have done so through torture and murder since 1865.
If a white performer, or any performer for that matter, used a backdrop of the KKK in a positive light in a performance, I hope everyone everywhere would be offended. It just in no way would be comparable to a black performer, or any other performer, giving a nod to the BPP. White people have never been systematically oppressed in this country, and the KKK doesnt work for their empowerment but shits on others for their supremacy. Obviously people comparing the two is grinding my gears...
Thank you, periwinkledaydreams and @jemomma - that's what I wanted to say but couldn't put into words. Comparing the two is just really uninformed and I'm kind of sad that a smart lady like tatersalad made it.

The KKK is a very extreme counter example. I'm just saying that the majority of the uproar over the video is the promotion of a violent group towards police, and the fact that police are increasingly becoming targets of violence. Playing Devil's advocate since almost no one saw anything controversial about it, hence the UO.
ETA: I think I need to clarify that I didn't come up with the fictional Jessica Simpson KKK dance on my own. It was part of the video from the news story where a black man was expressing his disappointment in Bey's performance. That may not be clear from the way I typed up my original UO. I brought up his stance because it was controversial to stir the UO pot. I definitely appreciate the differing viewpoints and agree with all points made by our posters. Clarifying because I just got notification that 2 people have viewed my profile. Tinfoil hats and all...
