I never put a coat on DS in the car. We have a blanket in there I can put over him and I use the heater. He's not going to freeze in the 30 ft walk between the car and daycare. I leave 2 different coats at daycare for him.
I see kids being dropped off at daycare every day getting out of their car seats with big puffy jackets on. I wish there were more PSAs about this.
This!!!!! I get so many side eyes by just using a zip up or fleece. On really cold days I'll use the Patagonia, but I see so many parents stuffing their kids in the car with huge coats on and I seriously get so many looks. One day I'm going to be like, "IM THE ONE DOING IT RIGHT!!" But for now I just ignore it. I feel like a lot of people do know and ignore it, honestly.
I get side eyes too for pulling DS out of the car in just his pants and shirt, but I just give a side eye in return. IDGAF
Car seat safety is one of my hot-button issues because I don't understand why people wouldn't research and follow the current safety guidelines. So many people have the "we didn't have all these rules and we survived" rationale, and I just don't understand why.
Yeah, there were a lot of things that used to be socially acceptable that aren't any longer, because we've grown as a society and have learned how we can be better. Why should the safety recommendations for your children be any different?!?

Car seat safety is a big issue for me too. And I get a lot of flack and eye rolls for it. I just can't understand why people would not want to keep their child as safe as possible. I mainly get flack over having my kids rear face until their 4 years olds, but it's 400 times safer. 400!
I hate the excuse of turning kids forward facing because they are "so tall" (obviously unless they actually are past the height limit). DS was also "too tall" for my uterus and that worked out ok.

Lol!
DS is short so we never had an issue, but I would imagine that even if an accident resulted in a broken leg for a "too tall" kid who was rear facing, a broken leg is probably easier to treat than a broken neck. And, I mean, knees are made to bend. Kids will move their legs so they're comfortable.

This is true. And also, it's important to know your car seat manual. We had to turn DS right at 2 because his seated height was Too tall for RFing. I didn't even know seated height was a thing before the bump. We just recently had to pull it out of the latch system because he and the car seat weigh 40 pounds so latch is no longer safe.
It's little things like this, along with the coat thing, and turning too early, that drive me BSC. I don't judge much, but I know someone from high school that had to buy a convertible car seat for her son and got the cheapest one they had because she " didn't feel like spending money on something so dumb" but got a tattoo that weekend. Serious side eye. Investing in a car seat is a great way to spend your money.

I've seen the flip side of this too. I've seen people go out and buy a top-of-the-line car seat and then proceed to stuff their puffy coated 1 year old in, forward facing, with loose straps because "she just isn't comfortable when they're so tight." Bottom line is that a car seat is only as safe as the person who is using it.
It really makes me sad for these kids when their parents don't believe that it's important.
I'm big on car seat safety too! It drives me crazy when my MIL drives DS somewhere (rare) and she straps him into his seat wrong. I always correct her (chest clip, etc.) but she doesn't seem to get it. Anyways, I had to switch him FF for about a month because his huge cast did have trouble fitting rear-facing, and I feel guilty about that. Then I flipped him back RF.
We went to gymnastics class today and it was pretty embarrassing because DS wasn't following any of the directions and all of the other kids were (most of them were 2 1/2 and he's only 22 months old, but still). I had to take him out a few times because he was throwing fits about little things-exhausting!
By some MIRACLE, I have two toddlers asleep right now-I've been watching my nephew all day and man, two kids are exhausting-a reminder that I need to soak up these last few months with only one kid!

YOU GUYS.
I am going to high-jack this thread to talk about my boobs.
For the first time in my entire life, I just tried on and purchased a D-cup bra. I feel like a new woman. I knew my current B-cups were squeezing me to death - but damn. I feel like a new woman.
Happy Friday! This day has been insanity at work! And I just found out that one of my best friends was planning her son's first bday party for the same day my Aunt was planning my shower so some rearranging needs to happen. I'm just glad we realized before anyone ordered invitations!
I didn't know they made I cups! I went from B to D also and am loving it (so is DH!) It's so depressing that they deflate and get smaller than pre-pregnancy (at least mine did) when you're done nursing (if you decide to nurse), so I'll appreciate them while they last! This is the sweet spot when they're not leaking milk but are big, haha!
Looking forward to a 3 day weekend. I just found out that I likely only qualify for 6 weeks post partum leave (unpaid, which I was expecting) and no additional (unpaid) bonding leave. I miss the tenure cut off for bonding leave time by 4 wks. I've fully accepted that with being so new here I'm not going to get any kind of paid leave but I really just want the added time. I can add an additional 2 wks using sick time and a little vacation time but it still sucks. Would have been nice for the eligibility requirements to have been in full on the first set of docs they sent out!
I'm making bacon and fried duck eggs for dinner and having a wide assortment of chocolate treats for dessert.
Thanks csat! That sucks that you missed it by 4wks since I know it took so long to process you and get you started. I'm sorry. Your dinner sounds amazing... enjoy
My SIL and BIL's baby was born. I'm thrilled for them and DH is over the moon to be an uncle. I have to admit, my PGAL brain is a little jealous. They got pregnant immediately when they started trying (right after our loss) and now they have a baby safe and sound in their arms. I know I'm lucky that I only had to wait a couple months for my BFP after they got theirs, but there is a little residual sting I guess. It isn't like worrying about our babies stops when they are born, it'll probably just get worse! I will enjoy being an aunt, and I'm going to try to enjoy the part of parenthood when I can feed him just by eating what I want
Congratulations on being an aunt and hugs vivela! I've had several family members announce pregnancies and have their babies since my loss last year and even though I have DS and I'm pregnant again, it still stings.
csat, that really stinks about your leave. I know its been said before but the maternity policy (or lack thereof) in this country really needs an overhaul!
vivela, hugs. I understand the sting. My BFF is due any day now, and I still find myself feeling down about it or jealous that I should have a 10-day old right now. It's an odd emotion to juggle while pregnant with two healthy babies that I am oh so thankful for.
Thanks soultrane , pbandj714 , it is a disconcerting sensation. DH mentioned it too at one point, something along the lines of, "it feels a little weird that we should have been 5 months into parenthood when they started." But I'm happy with my life right now, and I really am excited to have another little one in my family. It has really made DH even more excited for our LO to get here, which is cute. He actually initiated a conversations about names, which is normally like pulling teeth with him

I believe research shows kids are more likely to get a leg fracture in a FFing car seat than a RFing car seat.

I've been creepy and just liking posts and not participating this week, sorry! It's been crazy! So glad it's the weekend.
Also so glad all of you are car seat safety - savvy.
My random contribution to make up for my lurking: For those of you with congestion, I recommend trying breathe right strips (nasal strips) for sleeping. It's making a big difference for me! Not perfect, but definitely better!
Uch is it possible to have a kid with a stomach bug and not get it?! My peanut is sick and I'm freaking out. I've been so good about not sharing food with her and of course I let her double dip her veggies in my ranch yesterday and tonight bam so sick. I'm about to cry. Also this weekend last year same thing happened and we all ended up sick. Wahhh wahh. Rant over.

I'll have to pick some of the strips up this weekend. I'm so sick of not being able to breathe.
