It's a balmy -5 this morning. Got my iced coffee and just got to work. What's everyone up to?
My random question is for STM+ how do you handle the cold weather and car seat coat issue?? I have always just put DS in a hooded sweatshirt and figured it was good enough because we just run from warm car to warm house/store/school. But I do always feel bad not putting a coat on him and I feel like I'm being judged. This morning I stood outside my car and put DS winter coat on to go into school and I literally spent more time putting his coat on then it would have taken me to run into the daycare.

I hate coats and car seats! We keep coats in the car but really only wear them if we park a long way from where we are going or if it's really windy. I try and make sure they are in sweatshirts and have hats. Putting on coats is a pain.

I pretty much do what you do-rarely wear them since they can't wear them in car seat! I keep his coat in car, but it's been such a mild winter in Texas, he's worn it like twice. Last winter I just kept blankets in car.
FTM here, so I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I think my plan of attack will be to dress them in sweatshirts/hat/gloves and keep a blanket in the car. I do like shoogars idea to also keep coats in the car just in case you have to park really far from where you're going. Winter is such a pain!
AFM, I just have to make it through work today! This has felt like the longest week ever. Then DH and I have dinner plans with his adviser from college and her hubby.
And we finally got a coat of paint done in our master bath! This project is taking forever because we're being lazy about it, but oh well. Hopefully we can get the next coat (or probably 2) done this weekend and then tile the floor next weekend!

I throw her coat over her every day but pretty much never put it on. I like having a coat with her in the car because you never know when you might have car troubles and I like having one at daycare because you never know when they randomly might need one

That's a great point! I need to do a better job at keeping my car stocked with stuff for DS if there are ever car issues (diapers, snacks, etc)
I'm taking DS to gymnastics class this morning and then I'm watching my nephew the rest of the day. Tonight we are ordering pizza and my husband's good friend from high school is spending the night with us-he gets to try out DS' new big boy bed Pretty busy weekend after that but all fun stuff and plans with people.

RE: coats & carseats... I have always gotten DD a columbia fleece jacket and have felt safe with that in the carseat. We do hats, mittens and a fleece 99% of the time. Don't forget - they're warmer because you're carrying them too. Like someone else said, we keep a heavy coat at daycare in case they go out to play on a chilly day and keep one at home. Consignment shopping is EXCELLENT for this.
You can also just through a warm blanket around them when you run from the car into daycare.
When it was in the -5, -10 area, i did through an extra pair of sweatpants on over DD's little stretchy pants and made sure I warmed up the car before we went out. We were always okay!!
RE: Coats and carsets - Like Flair Underwood, I put DS in a light fleece which fits in the straps without adjustment. I also warm up the car before we go anywhere when it is this cold. I keep two old stroller blankets in the car to cover him with, but he usually tosses them off. This kid is staunchly anti-blanket. We're slowly getting him to keep his mittens on, but it is a battle.

For coats and car seats: the Patagonia baby down sweater is what we but and its rated car seat safe. Otherwise we buy a north face Denali jacket. It sucks because it's expensive but you can sell it or save it, and then you're warm and safe!
Question: I know Tylenol is safe to take during pregnancy, but is it safe to take every day? I feel silly calling my doctor to ask that since it's obviously approved. My back pain I had with my son has appeared lately, and I've been having to take Tylenol every morning.
I am exhausted- we didn't get home from our concert until a little after 3 thanks to our friend waiting for a poster and crappy roads. That 6:30 alarm came really fast. Luckily my day at school is fairly easy today with the students I have, and I might take a nap at my desk (that's a FFFC). I have one cupcake order to do tonight, and DH may go see this guy we like play at the bar near our house. We've had him play at a big summer party we have before, so it will be fun to see him in a real place rather than our backyard.

Lots of answers on the car seat and coats issue already, but wanted to point out you'd probably be judged the other way, if people saw the child in a huge coat in the car seat. It's a nice and judgy world. I think sweatshirt/fleece with a stocked car is perfect.
DD NEVER seems cold, which is so weird to me, because I am always cold.
I bought my nanny donuts for Valentine's Day only to find out she's given up sweets. Oops. Guess I need to eat some donuts today--so rough.
Re car seats and coats - I keep extra clothes, hats, and mittens in an overnight bag the car so we always have a spare on hand, and he has a special "car blanket" that he uses in the winter. He's getting to the point now where he can stand in the car and put it on himself so once he masters that, I'll probably just have him put it on before we open the doors. We also warm up the car whenever we can so it isn't so chilly. He usually has at least a long sleeve shirt and a sweatshirt/sweater so he can take things off if he's too warm once we get inside somewhere. Fleece-lined pants are also amazing at keeping them warm!!

I think there's a limit to how many days you should take it (on the box it should say something), if you find yourself taking it every day for a week or longer I would definitely call your doctor. If the pain is really bad he can probably prescribe a stronger pain killer that is safe in pregnancy (I'm guessing about that, not sure what meds are out there!). It may also be good to find out the root cause, you may be able to fix it with a back brace or other method. Hope you feel better soon!
TGIF!! 2dogs2kids I can't comprehend drinking iced coffee in that weather. Anything below 40 is for HOT coffee! Regarding coats and car seats: we just put DD in a fleece coat in her car seat. Her puffy snowsuit is for home play only. If it's really cold, I'll tuck her into my jacket with me. I wish car seats could be designed more like regular seat belts that would retract with a sudden stopping movement of the car.
I love iced coffee! Maybe it's a regional thing but I walked into work today and 4 out of 5 coffees were iced. Any other New Englanders who drink ice coffee year round? I like hot too but 90% of the time it's ice for me.

I don't think Tylenol is safe to take every day pregnant or not. I know if taken excessively it damages your stomach or liver or kidneys (I can't remember thanks to pregnancy but Advil damages one and Tylenol works on the other). I would say if you need to take Tylenol every day just to get through the day then it's something that definitely deserves some attention.

I assumed you'd bought it hot & it turned to ice coffee in the -5 weather! ;-)

We don't live in a cold climate, but we do visit my family in the midwest at Christmas every year. We put the baby in the carseat inside the house and buckle everything, then tuck the warm coat all around him, and the put a blanket all the way over the carseat for the trip to the car. We remove the blanket once in the car.
I never put a coat on DS in the car. We have a blanket in there I can put over him and I use the heater. He's not going to freeze in the 30 ft walk between the car and daycare. I leave 2 different coats at daycare for him.
I see kids being dropped off at daycare every day getting out of their car seats with big puffy jackets on. I wish there were more PSAs about this.

This!!!!! I get so many side eyes by just using a zip up or fleece. On really cold days I'll use the Patagonia, but I see so many parents stuffing their kids in the car with huge coats on and I seriously get so many looks. One day I'm going to be like, "IM THE ONE DOING IT RIGHT!!" But for now I just ignore it. I feel like a lot of people do know and ignore it, honestly.

Add me to the list of thankful it's Friday. It's been a long week. We're going to bake cookies tomorrow at DS1's best friends house. We met their family through daycare and they have become really close friends of ours. We haven't seen them since Halloween so I am super excited to go hang out with them!

Oh, another coat and carseat thing - DS likes to put his coat on backwards in the carseat now. It started when he was 2 or so and could put it on himself after he was buckled in, but he likes to put his arms in and have the coat over him like a blanket.
