Fairest by Marissa Meyer

Has anyone read this yet?
What were your thoughts?
Did the background/ origin story chance how you see Levana?
What were your favorite parts?
Are you even more excited to read Winter now?

I read this last Friday and I still am not sure how I feel about it. I liked the story overall but It left me kind of unsatisfied.

I think that Meyer was trying to make us sympathize with Levana but for me the complete opposite happened. I hate her even more than I used to after everything she did. I understand that she had a shitty childhood but the things she did were horrible.

From changing her appearance to look like Solstice and forcing Evret to be with her to murdering him 10 years later. Burning Selene alive because she was burned as a child and just being insane overall.

My favorite parts of this book were definitely seeing all the characters from the previous books. Seeing Winter and Jacin as children and seeing Winter's relationship with Selene makes me wonder if she will remember anything in the next book. I literally screamed out loud (and scared the dog) when I realized that the Shell baby was Cress.

I am so excited for Winter to come out and to see how Meyer will wrap up this series.

Question. Do you think I need to Cress before Fairest even though it's a prequel? I just got Cress back from a student and haven't read it yet but I want to read Fairest naoo

I would read Cress first. 1. Because it is incredible 2. There are some slight spoilers for plot developments in Cress 3. Because captain Thorne is in Cress and he is wonderful.

I'm kind of meh about novellas and prequels in general - there are so many that don't add enough to the story to justify reading them. But I'm debating about this one, because it sounds pretty heft (200+ pages, right?). I'm curious to see what others think.

I did already pre-order Winter and can't wait for it to come out

Did not know Meyer wrote a prequel. I will have to check it out!
