S(+)TM when are you telling your kids

Curious if you have or when you are planning to tell your children.  We haven't told anyone yet, but I know once we do DD will find out so I would rather tell her first.  She is 3 and has no concept of time.  For example we had a birthday party to go to on a Saturday, I told her on Monday.  She asked constantly when the party was. I do not want "when is the baby coming" for the next several months non stop.  I also want to wait just in case something happens.

However, I don't want to wait to long so she can be prepared as much as possible.  i was thinking after 12 weeks and trying to explain that it will be a long time before baby gets here?!

We are waiting until we are ready for the whole world to know, because once we tell my daughter, it won't be a secret, lol. She has recently been telling us she wants "another baby" so I think she will be super excited. My son will be clueless.

I'm with meow84. Once DD knows, the whole world will hear about it. We'll probably tell her around 12 weeks when we tell everyone.

I think I will wait until I'm showing. Definitely not until after our NT scan.

Probably after the NT scan, only because I'm sure people who know will ask him if he's excited to be a big brother.

We'll prolly tell her right before we tell my mom and bro. That way I can feel like we were the ones who told her. But we prolly won't a big deal about it with her so she doesn't really repeat it. She's 22 months so if its not made into a big deal then I'm hoping she'll just forget or move right along. Does that make sense?

I am a FTM, but I think it is good that you guys are not telling your LO until you are ready for the world to know. I teach preschool at my church, and the kids are very open. I had one tell me about his mom being pregnant, and she had not told me yet.

Hehe i tell DS every day. He's 12 months and still has 0 language skills so I'm pretty confident he has no idea what I'm talking about

I'm pretty sure we're going to tell ours at the same time we tell our families, at DD1's birthday party next month.

I can't tell DS1 yet because he will tell the whole world. He is 5 so he definitely understands and he will be thrilled to tell people. It's hard not saying anything in front of him but he actually doesn't know what the word "pregnant" means so usually I can say that. DS2 has no clue what is going on so we're good. I will probably tell DS1 once we have had a couple of good appointments. I made the mistake of telling him about another pregnancy before that I lost and he constantly asked me about that baby and what happened and I just don't want to deal with that.

Well... We technically told DD already but she is only 21 months, so not worried about her telling obviously. She will, however, point to my belly when we ask her where mommy's baby is. So cute!

I really need to think about this. DS1 just turned 2 and I'm pretty sure he'd have no idea what I was talking about if I told him. DS2 is 8 mo so obviously does not care. We didn't have to worry about this at all the first time around because my oldest was 15 months when we brought his brother home, so no prep in the world was really going to get anywhere. Advice for telling kids who just barely knows what's going on? Maybe we can spring it on them again.

Well, DD will be 3 in July and we told her the day we found out. She says "big sista" every now and then. It's cute

DS is 2. We won't be telling him until we share with the rest of the world. He would totally remember and say something, so we can't share with him until we're ready for other to know.

Do you really think he would get it? Maybe I'm not giving my kid enough credit. But he already has a little brother that I'm pretty sure he just thinks of as an animated toy? He just refers to him as "mine".

For sure I do. If we told him "Ma is going to have a baby" he would totally remember and repeat it. I already can't sa things like "We're going to your Valentine's party when you wake up from your nap" unless I *really* mean it.

We told our daughter last time early on to try to get her to understand... We would talk about the baby in mommy's belly and how she would be a big sister..and I don't regret it but it was hard when she would point and say baby and I couldn't explain that it wasn't there anymore to an almost 2 year old...so this time I think we're going to wait a little longer..like after first tri.

I think this is my biggest concern. DS1 turned 2 yesterday, so he could definitely repeat baby and point but without understanding 100% I'm really sorry you had to go through that.

Harper isn't even 2 yet, but she knows there are babies in mommy's tummy and when we ask how many she will say "two."

We will be waiting until we let the news out to everyone. My 4.5 yr old would be blabbing the news to anyone who would listen. When I was pregnant with my 3rd, she told people such as the guy stocking shelves at Target that there was a baby in mommy's tummy and that's when she had just turned 3.

We tell DS eveyday....but he's 20.5 months and doesnt talk so I think our secret is safe.

We already told my son, but he's only 2.5 and he doesn't care too much at this point. We've asked him a couple times if he's ready to be a big brother like Daniel Tiger. He always says no, lol.
