Omg I hadn't even thought about half of those! Yikes. The only things I can add are small. Binkies, nipples, breast pump, blankey/lovey, ? diaper pail. Oh I also want a wrap. I'm definitely hoping DD is still in her crib, but also hers turns into a toddler then a twin bed. So we're getting another one like that for LO. I'm thinking a double stroller will be necessary for us. We go for lots of walks. Just not sure what kind yet.

DD is basically in a twin bed. Right now it is an air mattress and I hope to get her a real twin bed soon. I didn't think about a second sound machine. I don't really use it that much with DD. Ours is also a projector and she does like to look at that once in a while so maybe you are right in thinking about buying a second one. I'm not worrying about a double stroller. DD will be almost 3 1/2 when the next LO comes. As far as changing pads we stopped using them for DD a while ago. We just change her on the floor, sofa, or bed, etc.

My first is currently 14 months. His crib converts to a toddler bed so we will be buying a second crib regardless. Here is basically what's on my (currently private) registry:
Crib (convertible) Crib mattress A mattress protector A couple more crib sheets Convertible car seats (thinking ahead/wishful) 2 more rear view head rest mirrors A f*ck ton of diapers in nb-5 Diaper genie New bottle nipples New Medela bottles/accessory set and membranes White noise machine (dohm) Soother Space heater Humidifier Smoke detector Extra monitor cam
Also: Will sell single bob to buy duallie, as well as car seat converter. May sell ergo 360 to buy Tula. Maybe.
I think I'm just feeling like I barely need anything at all for #2 and feeling like that can't be right. But I guess???
Especially when they're so close together you really don't need much. Everything you listed, plus yes to a double stroller, and I bought a new ring sling so I could nurse while chasing a toddler. Other than that we got s second travel pnp because we travel a lot.

@kitchen we are going to have three cribs because I am team cribs until kindergarten. I'm legit terrified that if I take my oldest out he'll never sleep again.

ducktale thanks for completing my shopping list, too And thanks everyone for the add-ons!
We will be getting as little as possible and only buying things as we need them. DS has far too much shit that we only used because we felt guilty that we'd bought it.
This kid is going to be sleeping in our room until we move in March-ish so we will put the spare crib which we used for DS and put in a better matress. Then (s)he'll get a little changing station where we can also store his/her clothes. When we move (s)he'll get his/her own furniture and room... and this time I'll make sure the crib converts. Ugh.
Other than that we are getting a buggy board for DS1's stroller. I haven't decided which one I'll carry and which one I'll push... but that's future WittyLittle's problem
(S)he will be using DS's infant carseat and after 1 year his convertible carseat, and he moves into a FF one.
ducktale Our first two are 17.5 months apart. I will answer these questions with what we did. But you need to find what works for your lifestyle and budget.
Is a double stroller a necessity? Probably right? >>we did not get a double stroller. We don't use strollers much so we got by with either two single strollers if my husband and I were both there or babywearing the youngest.
Am I totally delusional to hope DD is still in a crib and therefore will need 2 cribs? >>so you want DD to still be in a crib at 20 months? That is absolutely doable. My coworker has a two year who is off the growth charts and still in a crib. Buy new if you want to use it as a toddler bed and/or a full size bed.
We did not buy a second crib. We transitioned DS to a "big boy" bed shortly after DD was born.
I guess I need 2 changing pads, one for each kids room, yes? >>we didn't buy a second changing table or pad. We just changed diapers on the bed, floor, or where was convenient if DD was sleeping in her room and DS needed his diaper changed.
I know I'll need a little clothes since this LO is off season from #1. Plus a new baby blanket. New pacifiers, bottle nipples. >>yes, yes, yes! Those are the kinds of things we focused on replacing.
DD will still be using her sound machine and humidifier, so I'll need another of each of those. I already have a second camera with our video monitor.
What else? Kthxbye >>definitely a carrier. I can't think of anything else but will let you know if I think of anything!
raechay you have certainly given this some thought! I totally forgot about the car seat mirrors. There is so much less to plan for with the second. I was so excited to have something that no one else was going to buy us that we needed. How sad is it that I was excited to buy new mirrors?!
I would not buy a double stroller until I knew for sure that I would use it often. Think about the types of places that you regularly will go with two. So for us, it's the zoo, aquarium, church, playing in the backyard or walking to a close park. Most likely, I'm going to wear the baby in all of those scenarios. Since my lo will be 2.5 when the new baby is born, I imagine him walking more. We've already started getting him out of the stroller and practicing walking further distances holding our hand. If anything, I would rather have him in a small foldable umbrella stroller and put the newborn in the big stroller in their infant seat and I could pop out the umbrella stroller when and if lo needs it. The people with the double jogger annoy me- they take up an entire elevator, they can't see in front of them so typically hitting you in the ankles. And no one can get around them. Plus it's insanely huge to load and unload out of a vehicle and my sister has one and the only place she will use it is walking around her neighborhood because of the aforementioned. A sit and stand seems a little better unless you truly have two twin babies. Even then, I think I would opt for two single strollers with H and I each pushing one, because if it was twins, I wouldn't be going out by myself for a looong time.
We have one crib so I think I'm going to buy DS a convertible crib since he's closer to needing a bed and give the baby his current non convertible crib. That seems like it would cut down on buying more things. We also need to get a whole set of furniture so probably get whatever matches the new bed and give baby the current set up. I don't know if I'll put baby in his current room or move all the furniture so it's not as disruptive.

So, we'll be getting another crib (that converts), as both of my boys have the same - DS1 is in a full size bed but it's still his crib headboard and footboard. DS2...I'm not sure if he will still legit be in the crib or will be in the "toddler bed" conversion of it by October. He is my non-sleeper and I am not ready to transition him yet.
Anyway, we'll be buying new furniture for the baby's room regardless. We need a new crib mattress/covers/sheets, etc.
Another sound machine, we have a different monitor we will use that I already have (we have a video monitor on DS2's room but I have an Angelcare monitor for when they are little babies), another humidifier.
I need all new bottles b/c I trashed them - they were pretty gross after DS2 used them.
I would definitely recommend some type of carrier - we have a kinderpack. We also have a double jogging stroller b/c DH runs with the boys (I don't), we rarely ever take it anywhere. Generally, DS1 just walks with me since he is 5 and DS2 rides in whatever cart or stroller we may have.
Definitely need to stock up on diapers and wipes. For us, we will need to stock up on formula as well. I always attempt to BF but both times I've not had great success.
Also need to stock up on all the little baby medical things - colic drops, gas drops, infant Tylenol, etc.
Even if this baby is a boy, it will be a totally different season from both my other boys so I will need clothes regardless.
DS is also 12 months. I'm probably moving DS to the bed in the guest room, so we'll be decorating that to be his new room. And then switch up the nursery a little bit. I need a second video camera and bed rails.
I run, so I am planning to sell my single Bob to get a double. But I won't obviously be running with #2 for awhile, so it's not needed right away. Both kids will be in convertible car seats in 2017, so I'll need another one of those.
Also in the list are breastfeeding and pump supplies- new valves, gel soothies, nipple butter, etc.
We'll need more infant meds and gas drops and stuff (did those even work? Sigh, I don't remember).
I think we'll mostly be ok with clothes in the beginning because we had a ton of winter newborn and 0-3 month stuff and it starts getting cold here in November, so being due at the end of October that could work.
Maybe I should start a new thread for this, and maybe it's a bit pre-mature, but anyone heard anything about nursing for the second time around? I bf'd DD until she was 14 months and would like to do the same with LO#2, but it was 6 FULL weeks of shear willpower and stubbornness that got us through the rough stages of nursing in the beginning. Am I really going to have to go through that again? If yes, then I will probably have to stock up on gel soothies and nipple butter too...::sigh::

ellabee I could be the special snowflake here but nursing my second was WAY EASIER and less painful than it was the first time. Just an overall easier experience. I have no idea if that's the norm but BFing my first was awful. We made it about a month.

Lol not sad at all! It gives me the happies to think of these things too! With the initial shock of the surprise pregnancy it helped me to calm down by planning what we would need for the second- in the hopes that it would feel like NBD once the registry was finished (you know, because that's sure to be the only stressful part of a surprise new human).
As for BF'ing- I know it's just anecdotal but I've heard SO many times from friends that BF'ing the second was easier than the first.

I didn't even think of a dresser. That is definitely something I'll be getting, but for DD. I'll use the dresser that goes with the crib and the glider for the new LO.
Just wanted to give my reason as to why we will def get a double stroller - we are pretty active and the gym I use doesnt take babies until 9 months old. So the bob was critical to my mental (and I guess physical, but more mental) wellbeing. We have lots of public parks and trails here so I will definitely be abusing the duallie bob until baby is old enough for the gym. Just my 2c.
A double bob makes sense if you're an avid runner and will get lots of every day use out of a $700 purchase. But for most people, it's not going to be worth the expense.

For me, the double stroller was a necessity for getting around when baby fell asleep in the car seat and the toddler needed a ride (since he was 15 mo that was always). So, if the baby fell asleep on the way to the zoo or the bank or the mall I could just pop him in the stroller and put the toddler in too.

Def not dropping that kind of dough - I think it may be a PNW thing but there are ALWAYS several duallies for sale on craigslist. Plus selling my singleton bob makes it affordable. But yes, it is definitely a significant expense otherwise.

Fwiw I have never run anyone over
That's great that you love yours and get your use out of it. But my posts were another perspective. Just because you have two kids doesn't mean you absolutely have to have a double stroller. And IMO, most folks don't. Just like you don't need an SUV or mini van when you have multiple kids. You can get one (I have an SUV) but it's not a necessary baby item and if money and space are any concern for you, I would wait to see if it really was needed. I see a lot of barely used double joggers on Craigslist and baby sites. That doesn't mean some people don't absolutely wear theirs out. But I think some moms get it and it's a waste and winds up being a resale. The ones that are front to back are a little more space saving for having an infant seat and all that. But in that situation where the infant fell asleep in the car, I would put the infant seat in the stroller and have my lo walk until the infant woke up or wear my older lo in the backpack carrier. To each their own.
October baby in the Midwest means probably not a lot of outdoor walks for the first 6 months. Unfortunately. And then by 6 months we don't use the infant car seats, so no need to have one that you can connect the car seat. So I was thinking a smaller/cheaper double umbrella stroller may be more practical. And that we could just make due with wearing baby + single stroller or 2 single strollers until then.

I mainly baby wear and single stroller (this was only a problem when my youngest hated being worn the first three months). I have the super impractical thing right now where I have both the single and double city minis in my trunk. Thank you, Outback.
