forevermorgan, I like history too. If more history classes in school were taught as the story instead of the timeline related to region A only followed by the timeline again related to region B, and so on, more kids would enjoy history. I also like science and math related topics though, so I do admit I too may still be in the minority for liking reading history; however, I stand by my belief more people would like it if they give it a chance.
I vote for waiting on The Martian until I can read it too. Just kidding. I do want to read it at some point though. I've heard such good things. I need more hours in the day.
I have started All the Light We Cannot See twice and couldn't get into it. But I would try it again.
I have the Martian and Jellicoe Road on my kindle to read next. I read a lot of YA.
Recently read- Big Little Lies Girl on the Train The Nightingale
Have you read any good YA lately? I always used to read YA and then fell away from the genre.
Prepare to be bombarded! These are all books I loved or really liked.
Eleanor and Park- Rainbow Rowell (but really anything by Rowell is amazing- This is just the best) It's Kind of a Funny Story- Ned Vizzini All the Bright Places- Jennifer Niven The Beginning of Everything- Robyn Schneider The Book Thief- Marcus Zusak The Sky is Everywhere- Jandy Nelson We Were Liars- E Lockhart Anna and the French Kiss- Stephanie Perkins
and my personal favorite- The Spectacular Now- Tim Tharp

Loved Eleanor and Park! Did you like The Fault in Our Stars by John Green?
Everyone Alwats Recommends Anna and the French Kiss and I've always held out. Maybe I need to cave finally!
I also have to say if you haven't read Me Before You, it's in my all time top fave books. Not YA, but judging by your list you'd love it.
lo95 I have read everything by John Green and I loved the Fault in Our Stars. Do not care if it's trendy. Abundance of Katherine's was the only book of his I wasn't a fan of.
Anna and the French Kiss has two follow up books and is super adorable. Not groundbreaking but I enjoyed them.
I loved Me Before You. I just read the sequel After You and did not like at all. But I still read it because I love anything British.
cam - I totally agree. When you get a book that writes out history like an entertaining story, as opposed to just pushing facts on a timeline, it is soooo much better. It can really pique your interest to learn more. Allison Weir writes like that. Very entertaining.
Yes. To me, and I know others as well, the pieces come together better to see the whole picture as opposed to it remaining so segmented when it is only timeline mode. I had a professor who, on the first day of class, said, "Forget the G** D#!$ dates! [Focus on the events.]" History class was so much more enjoyable, and I had so many ah-ha moments of realizing, 'I knew ___ happened [in Time Period X] and that ___ happened [in Time Period X], but I never put together they were happening at the same time, both [resulting from/relating to/contributing to] ___.'

You know, I thought I would hate After You, but I did actually enjoy it. I just wish the one character who was introduced (I will be vague in case anyone wants to read) would not have popped up. The story didn't need her- there was enough drama without it!
I'm down for a book club! The Martian sounds interesting. I've recently read All the Light We Cannot See and it is hands down my current fave book. Also read and loved Big Little Lies, Girl on the Train, The Bone Clocks. Read Still Alice and wasn't a fan, same with Secret Life of Bees.
