Anyone else's kid get hiccups after every time they eat? Mine does. Annoying.
And heaven forbid I don't sit her up fast enough to burp. She started hiccuping and puked with each hiccup, at least 5 times. More annoying.
She doesn't get the hiccups every time, but it happens a lot - especially when we put her down to sleep. Then she gets pissed!
Yes, K is pissed every time she has hiccups. It makes feeding her such a pain because she will always get them afterward and then be a cranky, spit up mess.
Hiccups folks: LO hiccups after many a feed, and I find that if I put her back on the boob to nurse it 1) cures the hiccups and 2) decreases the spitup. Worth a try.

Has anyone bought or made lactation cookies? I was looking into it and found a pretty easy recipe online. Any suggestions? The recipe calls for flaxseed meal and brewers yeast. TIA

The flaxseed and brewers yeast are what makes them lactation cookies and not just cookies. I suggest dark chocolate chips because they're just better or use good, whole oats for oatmeal raisin for the oatmeal boost. Brewers yeast burps taste nasty so you need to cover the flavor!

Here are the 2 recipes I use! I'm not actually gluten free or anything, but they are both pretty healthy, low in sugar, and high in protein, so I feel like I can eat them more often and not feel bad. I keep a batch of both in the freezer at all times so I can have 1-2 cookies a day with milk or almond milk as a mid-afternoon snack to keep my energy and my supply up in the later hours of the day. They taste great directly from the freezer.
Gluten-free chocolate chip cookies
Ingredients
1/2 cup cashews 1/2 cup slivered almonds 1 cup gluten free rolled oats 1/2 cup sucanat or coconut sugar 2 T coconut oil 2 T applesauce (or more oil) 2 T milk 1 tsp baking powder 1/3 cup brewers yeast 2 tsp vanilla beans or extract 1/4 tsp salt 2 eggs 1/3 cup chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat oven to 350F In a blender or food processor, mix the cashews, almonds and oats until a "meal" forms. (FWIW, I don't do this. I just use a cup of almond flour and a cup of oats and call it a day). Pour contents into a bowl with the rest of the dry ingredients. Mix all the wet ingredients into another bowl. Add dry to wet and mix until combined. Drop cookies onto a lined baking sheet. Bake for about 10-12 minutes at 350. Makes 16-20.
Peanut butter chocolate chunk cookies
Ingredients
1/4 cup creamy peanut or almond butter 1/4 cup coconut oil, softened 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk 1/2 cup coconut sugar 2 tablespoons molasses 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed 1 tablespoon arrowroot starch (I left this out and it didn't matter) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 and 3/4 cups whole wheat pastry flour 1/4 cup almond flour 1/3 cup brewers yeast 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup chocolate chunks or chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a non-stick mat. In a large bowl, whisk together almond butter, coconut oil, applesauce, almond milk, coconut sugar, molasses, flaxseed, arrowroot, and vanilla extract. Mix in whole wheat pastry flour, almond flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined. Fold in chocolate chunks. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheet, leaving an inch between each. Flatten in a criss cross pattern with the tines of a fork. Bake for 14-16 minutes, until edges are golden. Let cool on pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Makes 16-20.

Tonight L0 just kept asking for more and more boob. I thought there is no was she is still hungry and also this is gonna be bad. I finally got her off and H was rocking her and she wouldn't go down. He said she is still hungry so I put her on again. She sucked literally once on my boob. Leaned back a tiny bit and spit up SO FREAKIN much all over my boob. Again why does she never spit up on H? Only on me and the bed.

Commiseration tits. SOML.
I learned to sit her up and rock her gently for five minutes when she does this so she realizes there is food in her stomach.

I pump once a day in the morning while A eats on the other side. I usually get 2-4oz. If I have DH give her a bottle in the evening (every couple of days) I will pump to replace the feeding.
The answer to this will really depend on why you are pumping. Is it to bottle-feed a baby with a troubled latch? To build a stash at home for when you go back to work? Or to pump while at work to feed the baby for the following work day?
I was in the second category and am now in the third. When I was saving a stash for work, I would pump once every other day in the late morning, after LO had had 2 good feeds and was napping, and it had been at least an hour since I last fed her. I could get 2 3-4 oz bags this way, one to use for a practice bottle that day and one to freeze for a backup stash.
Now I pump once at work (basically you have to pump at least every 4 hours - since I'm gone 7-8 hours including commute, I can get away with nursing her right before and after work and only pumping once). I get 5oz in each bag this way because the interval is so long. Then I put it in the fridge and she eats it the next day while I'm at work. Sometimes she needs a backup freezer bag on top of those 10-11 oz.
TL;DR unless you are exclusively pumping to bottle-feed your baby, you're not going to need to pump more than once a day until you go back to work, and even then, 2 or maybe 3 times a day will work for most people. I for one try to hook myself up to the cow machine as infrequently as possible! Also I hate wasting bags by having lots of tiny amounts. =)

Well my LC has me pumping after every feeding to increase/establish supply.
We do timed nursing per side. Supplement with a bottle (of either pumped milk or formula with powder formula added to all fluids for extra calories), and then I pump.
I was just curious what "normal" ladies do, and hopefully what I may get to some day.

So interesting! I hadn't heard of that before. FX your supply increases! Others have said this elsewhere, but don't forget to drink a lot of water, try oatmeal for breakfast, and eat a lactation cookie or two as a snack in the afternoon. I just posted some recipes somewhere yesterday, but those cookies really help get me through the end of the day, especially if I'm pumping at work, away from LO.

Yea i choke down my oatmeal every day. Lots of water, and I take fenugreek. It's definitely getting better. I started at 2ml total in a session and now a bad session is 35-40ml with up to 80ml.

That's an awesome improvement! I didn't even know you were dealing with supply issues. That's tough, but it sounds like you're killing it.

I need to vent about pumping. And BFing in general. I feel like such a damn failure. J never gets enough at the breast, and always needs at least 3 ounces after nursing both sides. My pumping output is miserable, even after more than a week of taking a supplement. Lactation cookies don't seem to be helping. I drink water like it's my job, do what I can to eat well, and I can still barely get an ounce total regardless of when I pump. I'm seeing an LC, but I just feel useless. Why can't my body just get its shit together for once? Argh. /endrant

This is me, too - for the third time. I'm so frustrated with my body because I'm doing everything right! I nurse, then supplement with 1-2oz of formula or pumped milk, then I pump. This has been going on for 5 weeks now. I was almost keeping up with breastmilk but in the last few days I've been doing a lot more formula. It's so disappointing. I was hoping that it would be different for my third kid. It is better than I did with the first two, though, I must say. I'm giving myself until 6 weeks and then I will probably switch to EPing for as long as I can take it. I enjoy nursing but it's just upsetting us both at this point.
We need to not be so hard on ourselves! Feeding baby is the top priority, regardless of whether or not it's formula or breastmilk. It's stressful now, but in a couple of years, you'll look at your kid and know that it's really no big deal in the long run. They will be ok no matter how we chose to feed them!

I'm right there with ya, sister. Like our bodies continue to f*ck us. WTH?!?!
H put it in perspective for me today after a disappointing LC appt. He was like "...with your history, pcos, etc, we're really lucky that she's even here..."
My body may not be cooperating the way I want it to; I may lose the (BF) battle, but I already won the war bc I have B.

I hate that we're in this boat. Ugh. But you are absolutely right - as long as the dude is getting fed, that's all that matters. I've been contemplating the switch to EP (as much as I can anyways) for the past week. Stressing about BF definitely doesn't help the situation.

That last paragraph brought tears to my eyes. That's what I need to focus on and remember (while giving my boobs the middle finger, of course).
