Had an emotional day today. I had a doctor's appointment this morning before work, and she told me that the pelvic pain I've been experiencing is due to SPD. Due to that, and the spotting I've had, she thinks it's best that I not go back to work.
I'm really disappointed. I had everything ready for my sub though, so that's positive. I sent a text to the two teachers I work with, and one responded telling me that she had planned a surprise shower next week during lunch, and would I be able to come back for it?
Totally floored. I'm from the side of the fence that doesn't do showers for 2nd babies, except in cases where there's a large spacing- which I don't have. (DD will be 20 months.) But she seemed so bummed out that I would miss it, I had to say yes. Besides, with a 45 minute lunch, I'm sure it will be super small.
I'm not sure what the etiquette is for a surprise shower. I'm thinking I should get her a hostess gift. Any ideas for a super small/short shower like this?

I would do a hostess gift after the fact. If it was supposed to be a surprise you wouldn't have known ahead of time. When you send out thank you cards I would include a small hostess gift then as a thank you.
