Ok. First off, not looking at starting a mommy war. I thought I would create a thread in case any new moms were curious about cloth diapers. If there are questions let me know and I will gladly answer. As people start to roll in and get past the initial omg am I really pregnant and this is for real, then comes the fun part of trying to plan everything on how you think it is supposed to go.

This is something I haven't really considered but I'm definitely interested in learning more about it. Right now thinking "what do you do with the poop?" and "how do you clean them?" etc etc but maybe it's not really what I'm picturing. Anyway, I try to be environmentally conscious so this might be something I would look into.
I've cloth diapered DS for over 19 months, and I plan to CD the next one too.
Before babies start solids, you dont have to do anything special with the poop. After they start solids, you just plop it in the toilet or spray it off if needed.
There are different ideas about how to wash, but here's what I do. Rinse or light wash with either a little detergent or none at all to rinse away most of the urine and poop. Then I do a heavy wash with an appropriate amount of detergent that does not contain fabric softeners. I use tide powder. (If it's a big load, I use a big scoop. It's your dirtiest laundry so fairy dust and a teaspoon of detergent isn't going to get them clean.) I also use an extra rinse. Then I machine dry any inserts, flats, prefolds, etc., and hang dry the covers or anything with pul.
Yeah I know it's early. Just trying to think of things to generate chat that may be useful info for others.
The biggest factor is time because of the additional rinse cycles and possible dry time.
Oh absolutely. I think it is perfectly fine that you started the conversation and honestly I could see myself wanting to start looking at things in the next couple of weeks.
I just wanted to say hiiiiii I'm interested but not ready for the conversation yet
Once I am moved and settled I will have more time to obsess over, I mean focus on.... baby things.
