There was an article/post going around Facebook on why "real" Irish people get annoyed at other "not-real Irish" people on St Patrick's day. The friends sharing it were all born here in the US.
My UO is that I feel like if you were born in the US, you're American. Yes you may have Irish roots (or English, Polish, German roots etc etc) but you're American, get over it and stop making others feel bad for being 44% Irish and not 75%. Lame.
It's where a man explains something to a woman in like a "oh, woman, allow my mighty man brain to explain how the world works to you."
I'm hearing it way too often in election season. Candidates can't just explain their views, they're always mansplaining. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but I think, like mommy wars, not everything is an affront.
I do not like the trend of hardwood floors (or tile, or laminate or whatever) throughout the whole house. I like some carpet. And no I don't want to just throw a rug down.

Our second floor was hardwood when we first moved in and we eventually got it all carpeted. People (including our carpet installer) thought we were nuts but we wanted the bedrooms to have carpet. It's warmer and quieter. Plus the hardwood is still under there if we ever change our minds.

The only place I like carpet is in the bedrooms. Everywhere else I would prefer tile or wood. Carpet is too hard to keep clean!

We have carpet in the bedrooms but we also put it in our living room. What if I want to sit on the floor?!?! Lol.
Also we have a roomba, I love to vacuum and I get some sick satisfaction out of shampooing the carpet. I admit I may be weird
Yes, I also love carpet in the bedrooms and on the stairs. Makes walking around so much quieter. It was also easier in my kids knees learning how to crawl up them.

I like hardwoods, but I like carpet, too! I liked it even more when DS came along. It wasn't as big of a deal when he fell over if he was on the carpet. He's a climber now, but I don't worry about it as much if he's somewhere with carpet. Plus, you may not have to vacuum hardwood, but you have to sweep all the time, especially if you have animals.
I agree about the mommy wars being somewhat overblown. I think *most* rational people are content to live and let live. Whenever I read articles on certain topics (working v. SAH comes to mind) and how the 'mommy wars' are so terrible, I come away thinking, all your article/blog/whatever did was fan the flames.
+1 for liking carpet in bedrooms. We had hardwoods installed throughout our home back in the fall, but left carpet in bedrooms. We had hardwoods in the bedrooms in our first house and while I think they're more attractive, I hated seeing all the hair, lint, etc. It's bad enough in the main living areas; DNW the maintenance in the bedrooms.

Hardwoods FTW!! Our last two houses have both been 100 years old (or nearly) so have hardwoods throughout. I have rugs in the bedrooms and main living areas but I can't go back to carpet.
