What's going in the Easter basket?

For those of you who celebrate Easter in a religious context or simply celebrate the time of year; what are you planning to put in your LO's baskets?

I need some ideas.

Glad you posted this as I need some ideas too. Definitely some candy , although I may try to put some fruit too. Maybe a stuff animal??? We got out some plastic eggs yesterday and she was so excited she figured out how to open and close them herself. So we definitely need to hide some and will do an egg hunt at church too.

We painted some eggs with plant based dyes yesterday. That was fun except L freaked out when the dyes didn't seem to be coming up from her little table, so she got an early bath and I scrubbed the kitchen floor quickly and got everything up! She liked it but wanted to dip the eggs in all the colors so some of them turned up a little brownish.

This morning she was calling them bunny eggs. I seriously don't know where she got that. I haven't been talking about the Easter bunny and neither has L.

Anyway, I digress. Looking forward to others sharing what they are putting in their baskets.

ooooo, how did you make the dyes? I need to do this with ceramic eggs we bought R to dye since he's allergic to real eggs.


Yesterday R was playing with our plastic eggs so I put Chex cereal in some and blackberries in other ones just for the heck of it and he LOVED IT. He thought it was awesome to open them up and eat it.

So far for baskets R is getting a book, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, a little people car thing. All this is only $15 if that. I was planning on doing an egg hunt as well.

An idea I had was to fill an egg with Rice Krispie Treats and make them egg shaped.

Ugh...we are struggling with this. H already got a HUGE basket from her grandparents (C's parents) and she'll get another one this weekend from my parents...we are struggling with getting her a 3rd basket. If we do it will probably have some fruit snacks, maybe a little candy, and possibly a book or something to play with. I struggle with her getting TOO much for holidays/birthdays because our parents go WAY over board...

DS is 14 and not super into chocolate so......
1. Gift card for somewhere close to school where he can take himself out for lunch one day
2. A book
3. T-shirt
4. A new hat for the season

I do still set up a hunt for him with a few clues.

karlamo -- They had a kit at our local natural food store. Only three colors blue (blue cabbage), orange (orange something), and purple (red cabbage). I would have no idea how to make it myself but I'm sure you could. Just might be messy and time consuming.

Here is a picture of our kiddos' baskets.


Both are getting several books.
For Lu - a small rattle toy, a bandana bib, a sun hat for spring/summer...
For William - stickers, an activity book, matchbox cars...

We will use these totes with their names every year as their baskets.

Last year we forwent the baskets and filled new backpacks with stuff. This year we are going to fill LL Bean toiletry bags with stuff - books, a bit of candy, stuff we are picking up on vacation, magazines, DVDs, more books!

We bought eco-dough and eco-finger paint as presents for a friend's 1 year old daughter's birthday and they love it so much we plan on getting some for our LO as well.
