Money Matters 13: Best and Worst of the Week

1. What's the best thing you spent money on this week?
We splurged on the zoo today for the holiday. It was actually a little bit of a waste because DD was in a foul mood and we spent $45 to go, but in general, it was a good change of pace.

2. What was the worst?
We put a deposit down on an apartment. I generally don't have a good feeling about it. I want to sell my house, but this is basically the worst time in the decade to go house-shopping, so now we may be screwed into paying a ridiculous amount of money for an apartment.

3. Eat out this week? What'd you have?
Twice. We always plan one lunch out a week- yesterday we want to a burger place and lucked out that DH had a friend working who comped almost our entire meal. Super nice. Then today after the zoo we were starving and caved by stopping at Wendy's on the way home.

4. What did you spend on the Easter holiday? Special meals, baskets, other miscellaneous things?
I ended up spending more than I planned, but I've been buying things since after Christmas, so it wasn't a big deal to this week's budget. In DD's basket I put a taggie stuffed animal, easter egg toy, new bib, book, and sign language video. I think that was about $50...which seems sort of ridiculous, but again, I've been buying one thing here and there so I didn't really feel like it was so much. We also did the zoo splurge today and I also had some Easter candy for DH and I. So, just over $100 in total probably.

1) Maybe more of a sentimental purchase but DD1 is obsessed with the tiger at the zoo lately so on the way out I bought her a small stuffed tiger. She clung onto it for dear life so it was worth it.

2) Buying food at the zoo because I forgot to pack lunch. I hate buying over priced food when it can be avoided.

3) I forgot to pack a lunch when we went to the zoo earlier in the week so I had to buy overpriced pizza Hut while we were there.

4) I didn't really spend too much. I got both girls a personalized bucket with their names that were $10 each. I did small fillers, DD1 got a doll & stroller, bubbles, small chocolate, & socks. DD2 got a dvd, socks, & a new Minnie onesie. I think total I spent $40

I hope you "know" me well enough to know this is genuine, not snotty as I know tone can be hard to express, but why choose to do something if you feel it is a poor decision?

The only real nonessential was the zoo I think.

I don't recall the exact final total on the basket/eggs because we had some last minute changes (no major change to the total though), but I usually aim for around the $25 mark, give or take.

lo95 Do you live near the zoo? I found that a yearly membership works better for us. After going twice it pays for itself, and if DD isn't in a good mood I don't feel like I wasted the money for a day.

We went to see The Book of Mormon when it came to town.

3. Eat out this week? What'd you have?
Yes, DH and I went to dinner with friends before the play. We went to a local pub. My friend and I specifically choose it because we wanted to splurge and have dessert. The whole meal was really good.

4. What did you spend on the Easter holiday? Special meals, baskets, other miscellaneous things?
I'm not sure...maybe $20 on stuff for the basket. The most expensive thing in it was a book.

1. We didn't really spend any money this week other than the grocery store and a target run. And we stuck to essentials at target.

2. Nothing that I can think of

3. No but we did order pizza in one night.

4. DD got walkie talkies, the movie Nanny McPhee, and some markers. DS got a big wheel tricycle, a DVD of Shaun the Sheep cartoons, and markers. The baby got a shaper sorter and some puffs. The big kids got jelly beans, m&ms, and peeps too. We splurged a bit on DS but DH found that big wheel at Ollies for $25 and we thought that was a good enough deal to go for it. We spent maybe $70 on all 3 baskets.

Such a convoluted story.  I'll update when the situation plays out and I know what's definitely happening.

1&2. We had a fabulous lunch at the brewery. We also rejoined the art museum. I feel like it was a waste because we were only there an hour, but we can go as much as we want the next year. Just have to work on the kids behavior. They do have a nice courtyard the kids can run around it when they are done being good (hopefully) at the museum.

3. I can't remember the name, but a fabulous carnitas sandwich at above mentioned brewery.

4. I kept it really simple this year. We bought per-prepared quiche for lunch, which was really good $10. DH did pork chops, mashed potatoes and asparagus for dinner. I spent about $15 on each basket I think.

2. What was the worst? I bought a butterfinger and regretted it.

3. Eat out this week? What'd you have? Turkey sub from firehouse and jimmy johns before I went to the grocery store and got the makings to do it myself. Pregnancy craving is no joke!

4. What did you spend on the Easter holiday? Special meals, baskets, other miscellaneous things? I bought eighteen eggs and the cheap paas dye kit. No baskets or anything. We did spend $60 on a buffet for brunch though.

3. Eat out this week? What'd you have? Yes. We had Olive Garden and Subway. We had a giftcard for Olive Garden that covered our whole check

1. What's the best thing you spent money on this week? A bag of ranch Doritos to eat after DS1 was asleep.

2. What was the worst? A bag of ranch Doritos to eat after DS1 was asleep. I really did not need those extra 540 calories.

3. Eat out this week? What'd you have? Chinese food on Friday. Oh, and dinner out with a friend (plus drinks, and dessert) on Tuesday. I had to roll myself to my car.

4. What did you spend on the Easter holiday? Special meals, baskets, other miscellaneous things? Extra fruit for fruit salad. I was done with Easter basket stuff two weeks ago.
