Anyone else dealing with jaundice? I'm really frustrated right now. At her 2 week appt today the doctor said the first thing they want is for C to never go more than two hours between feedings except overnight because weight gain will help the jaundice plus she's not back at birth weight yet. C is almost impossible to wake up sometimes and usually goes 3-3.5 hours between nursing. Who knew I'd be worried about my 10.5 pound baby not gaining weight... I'm very frustrated right now and feel like I'm not doing a good enough job of feeding my baby or this wouldn't be an issue. Damn hormones aren't helping any.
Yes, but not to your extent. We only had a few days of jaundice worries. They told me to sit with him near a window for the sunlight, it helps with the jaundice. We were told the same 2 hour feeding schedule and it was hard for the first few days to get him to eat enough. We're formula feeding. He was up every 2 hours anyway, but he'd keep falling aleep. I'm sorry you're dealing with this!

We've been keeping her in sunlight as much as possible.
My LO had to stay in the bililight for a few days. He lost some weight and was not at birth weight at 2 weeks. Dr wanted him to come in once a week to check his weight. She also wanted him to eat every 2hrs. I felt the same way, very discouraged. Hugs mama! You're doing great. Just keep feeding as much as possible and try to open the shades and get sunlight in.
Not dealing with jaundice, but hugs! We were very worried about this bc H has Gilbert's and it also runs in my family, but LO didn't have any issues. We were having to wake every 2 hours at first for weight and it can be tough... We found stripping her down while she is laying on something flat (basically trying to make her kinda cold and uncomfortable) and a wet cloth helped wake her up. But it would take some time, so if you need to feed every 2 hours maybe try waking her 15 min before the time. It's a total PIA but it will pass!!
We had to stay in the hospital an extra day for triple photo therapy for this LO. I still feel like her eyes have a little yellow in hem but pedi isn't concerned. Plus, she is constantly pooping.
My first had jaundice and was under the lights, too, but he was a 32 week preemie and in the NICU anyway. Ds2 was jaundiced but they let us go home and made us continue to test to be sure the bili levels were going down. He was very sleepy and a lazy nurser. It was so hard waking him. I had to supplement with formula to make sure he ate enough since he didn't nurse well and my supply wasn't great.
And to echo rachelilly23, I'm pretty sure they can get you a bili blanket for home. If they are that concerned, that should be an option for you. Did they tell you what the levels are currently? One of the doctors said they don't really worry about permanent damage until levels are around 20.
