babyzebra we are doing professional photos too. I used the same lady for ds but her prices have doubled in 2 years. She does a good job and I know I'll be happy I did it but eek $$.
I've decided to get professional newborn pictures for DD. A friend and I took them of DS and they turned out well, but DIY newborn photos are hard work! I don't think I have it in me to do that again. Anyway, I've selected the photographer and now I just have to sign the paperwork and put down a deposit. This is getting crazy!
Yay! So exciting!
We just settled on a date and place for maternity pictures with our photographer. I can't believe it's already time for this stuff.
I'm really hoping the weather cooperates this weekend for our maternity pictures! We're having our friend take them (she also did our wedding photos and did an amazing job), but it's more complicated now that she lives in DC. But she'll be in town this weekend, so fingers crossed!
We aren't doing maternity pics this time (unless my brother in law takes a few for us) but we are doing a newborn family shoot. Same problem-prices have doubled in two years but I love her pictures so am just going to suck it up, yikes!
I had a semi-productive weekend marked by spurts of teariness when I think about the work trip this week. I'm spending the morning packing, and then I'm off for four nights, definitely the longest I've been away from the little one. I'm blaming pregnancy hormones for how much this makes me tear up on the reg.
Today's the designated "travel day," though, and with a flight of only an hour, it basically means I have the day off!
Try not to stress and just enjoy it. I had a work trip in February and it was GLORIOUS!! I slept so well all alone in a king sized bed and was sleeping before 11 each night. Obviously I missed DD like crazy but it was so nice to have some quiet to myself at night
You're right, am going to try to enjoy! I brought my swimsuit, for the hotel pool and my newfound love of swimming. I'm also not sad to be away from the cat and dog who invariably wake me up throughout the night. If all else fails, I'm looking forward to the hug at homecoming, because DD is in a big, awesome "hug mommy!" stage.

I need to set this up as I'd love to do newborn pics with our family. However, last time, I felt like a Beluga afterwards and was really self conscious. Any ideas on cute, flattering clothes for newborn pics and good poses that don't scream whale? I definitely don't want bare arms and all cute summery dresses have no sleeves or tiny little sleeves that cover nothing!

I've been putting off booking photos because I'm torn between two photographers. I like both of their photos. One is a regular customer of mine who loves my cupcakes and will refer me to her clients to order cake for cake smashes and keeps my business card in her studio, but she will be about $250 more than the other photographer I like. I don't want to ruin a good relationship, but $250 is kind of a big difference. I'm thinking I just need to suck it up and pay more. What would you guys do?

I'd probably pay more. $250 is a lot, but it could be way more than that in future business referrals.....if she's actually referring you.

Kevinmac I'd probably pay more if you think her relationship with your business is working well. Maybe she'll work out a barter with you for some of the cost?

My family is crazy....in a cute way. My sister is swearing to my nephew (9) that we are naming the baby after her because it starts with the same letter and ends with the same sound. My mom is saying that it's because her initials are R.E. (baby name is Ari Lucas), which also happens to be my dad's (bio) initials. And my sister and step dad are saying it's because they have the same initials A.L. as baby. They've spent way too much time thinking about this! But apparently, in purposefully not naming the baby after anyone and picking a name no one has ever used in either of our families, it's all about my family.

Y'all. I just realized there was an ice cream truck in my neighborhood (I've always lived in an extremely rural area until this past January so this was extremely exciting to me) I hauled my 2 ton self upstairs to put on a bra, and got outside only to realize I had already missed it.
Question for those of you who are already moms. I'm going to a 1 year old's bday party Saturday. Should I buy the baby a toy/book or should I get clothing? I figure kids prefer toys and can care less about clothes, whereas parents probably think their kids have enough toys and would prefer clothing. Thoughts?

I. Am. Devastated.
LOLOLOLOL. This is such a pregnancy post. I just imagined this entire scene. Meanwhile, as I read this, I was thinking "she had time to put on a bra?" only to keep reading and see you missed it:(
As someone who has always lived in a city and hailed my fair share of ice cream trucks, rule #1. keep a dollar in your pocket from April - September while the trucks are running rule #2. when you hear the truck's music, don't even bother putting on shoes if they're further than 10 feet away from you. Just go outside and flag it down.

See what happens when you take the time to put on a bra? Sorry you missed your ice cream, I would be devastated too!
bgkc4, depending on what you're planning to spend, maybe do a t-shirt and a small toy? And honestly, at a year old the kid is going to be more excited about the wrapping paper and bows than what's inside anyway!

My only experience with ice cream trucks is from when I was little and spent my summers with my grandmother in Boston. Considering the fact that she was known to haul me out of the bathtub in a robe, I should have known better.
I did put some ones by the door for next time though. Lol

The only thing my niece cared about at her 1st birthday was the cupcake. It didn't matter what the presents were.

ha, this is so true.
That said, my go-to for the round of first birthdays we attended was a puzzle and a board book. If you do clothing, think bigger sizes. It's always fun to hit a new size and realize you already have some clothing.
The ice cream truck that drives through my neighborhood is a creepy-ass old van. Nope, nope, nope. My dog howls when she hears it's music.
This. Every ice cream truck I've seen scares me. I can't help but think about how listening to that repetitive jingle all day long must eventually turn all the drivers into child kidnappers or psycho killers. I go buy my ice cream from the store.

There was an ice cream truck that came through our last neighborhood all the time, and part of his music was super creepy. I think it was supposed to sound like a horse neighing, but it really sounded like a creepy clown laugh. No thank you creepy clown man.
So maybe this is an UO, but a facebook post just reminded me of something that irritates me to no end - when people call kids "littles." I'm not even sure why it bugs me so much, but why not just call them "kids" or call them by name? I just don't get it.
