I need some help ladies. For the past couple weeks, I've been dealing off and on with severe back pain right at my tailbone. I've spoken to my OB about it. The problem is that I have a really small abdomen and there's not much room for baby so he's super super low. DS1 dropped and was ready to go at 30 weeks, and my OB thinks this one is prob headed that direction too. It feels nearly identical to back labor and has gotten to the point where I can barely walk, sit, or lay down without excruciating pain. At her direction, I've tried warm showers, heating pads, and Tylenol with no relief. Since I also have my 3 year old to take care of by myself 85% of the time, I've got to find some relief. Anyone know of any tried and true solutions? At this point I've been leaned over the bed rocking my hips to try to get him to move for almost 2 hrs, and DS1 is just sitting in front of me asking if I still hurt every 30 seconds.
Do you have an exercise ball to sit on? My back pain got really bad at the end with DD, and I found if I sat on the ball instead of in a chair or on the couch, I felt a little relief. I'm sorry you're in so much pain so early on
shmee, I borrowed one from MIL last time. She is supposed to be "looking for it", but that's been a while. I may send DS to her house tomorrow when he gets home to find it or to just buy one.

My OB recommended I start using a maternity support belt for my lower back pain. I'm in the same boat as you, thin frame with sudden weight gain all in one area- my body took a shock, lol.
I ordered the Curad maternity belt off Amazon but there's a huge variety out there, so spend some time looking for ones that might work best for you.
samiamagirl I tried one for a few days but my pain is lower than the belt. It's more in my butt area and the belt stopped at my hips. I hope yours works much better than mine did. I got it at Motherhood.
I would suggest maybe going to a physical therapist. My back pain was bad last time and I had horrible back labor. The pain didn't really get better after DS arrived so I eventually went to PT. She evaluated me and figured out where the pain was coming from and had me do specific exercises to target those areas. One of the things she had me do was rest/balance my sacrum on a small hard ball for a minute or so at a time. She told me to just buy an atom skyball from the Walmart toy section. It really helps to stretch out my lower back/tailbone area. Maybe it could help you. I hate that you are in so much pain right now. People don't really understand back pain until they have it.

Yeah, I think the belt is designed to lift/support your belly to give your back some extra help so it's not going to sit really low. But if your pain is because baby is pushing into a nerve a belt probably won't help.
I do get that tail bone pain, especially when walking a lot. I haven't had a chance to use the belt on a long walk to see how it works, but I'll bring it on my trip and let you know if there's any success.

Chiropractor, heating pad for 15-20 minutes at a time. I have extreme pain at my SI joint, by the tailbone, when I'm pregnant, also to the point I can't really move from my waist down. Thing is, there can be several different causes, so I think you need a chiro or physical therapist to diagnose you.
Sitting on a an exercise ball and doing hip rolls in a circle is supposed to help reset the area. My chiro also suggested laying on my back with a ball, like a kick ball, between my thighs and doing a squeeze, release exercise, which may also reset the area.
