Okay. I am going to try to get this together now.
Monday (March 28) I went to my midwife for a check-in and membrane sweep where I was about 5cm dilated. I had been crampy all day.
Around 8pm my back was killing me so I had a bath. Fast forward to 11pm when I looked at C and told her that I felt like crap and was going to bed.
Around midnight I woke up feeling achy and restless and decided to walk around the house. I didn't time any contractions but when they started to feel regular, around 1:30am, I woke up C.
C shot up out of bed and started timing my contractions which were 2-3 minutes apart and lasting about 45 seconds.....so we paged our midwife. So much for the 4-1-1 rule! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
When we arrived at the hospital I was 7-8cm dilated and went directly to a labour room.
Because our midwives were concerned about her size and the potential of shoulder dystocia they consulted with the OB at the hospital (who scared the crap out of me and obviously thought a c-section would be easier). We decided that I could safely continue labouring but I did need to stay attached to the monitors which meant that I really needed to stay close to bed. Once my water broke (almost on my midwife's face), we decided to use an internal monitor because it looked like baby's heart rate was dipping with my contractions (cue the c-section loving OB). FYI, the internal monitor attaches to the baby's head....I had no idea but they make you sign a consent. I'm happy we switched because it showed that her heart rate was fine so I was able to continue labouring. I vomited the whole time so I also had IV fluids. C was a pro puke catcher!
I was fully dilated and she hadn't moved down enough so I laboured for 12 hours and pushed for an hour. The cord was around her neck, not tightly, so they cut it right away and then Olivia was finally born weighing 9 pounds 9 ounces.
I had some significant tearing and was bleeding a lot so the OB removed the placenta manually (ouch) because they weren't sure where the blood was coming from. After that the bleeding was fine.
I'm so happy with how her birth went! C was an awesome labour support person. Amazingly, we managed to stick to our birth plan for the most part: no drugs, immediate skin to skin, breastfeeding right away and even though I had continuous monitoring my midwives were so creative with finding ways to get me out of bed and even into the shower.
DS was the first person, besides the midwives, C and I to meet his sister and is so in love.![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
